Analytical approach to current ripple mean square / current THD calculation was introduced in the 1980s for a 2-level voltage source inverter with inductance dominated RL-load. This paper presents a generalization of this approach for a single-phase multilevel current source PWM inverter with an arbitrary number of current levels accounting for the CL-filter effect. The output of this research is a closed-form analytical current THD solution. Though one of the assumptions is large switching-to-fundamental frequencies ratio, the formulas are practically accurate for the said ratio larger than 20-25. The formulas become quite compact and simple without a loss of accuracy when using a Bessel function approximation. They demonstrate a single-phase PWM current source inverter current THD dependence on CL-filter parameters and current modulation index.","PeriodicalId":111104,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 14th International Conference on Compatibility, Power Electronics and Power Engineering (CPE-POWERENG)","volume":"83 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134241498","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

On the other hand, distribution transformers (DTs) which have to meet the demand of EVs are one of the essential components of SDS; indeed, their failure can lead to irreparable damage. The cause of most of these failures is overloading and high ambient temperature. The overloading increases the temperature of the various parts of the DTs, especially hot spot temperature (HST). Increasing this temperature reduces the nominal life of the DTs. With a high number of EVs in the future, and as a consequence high energy demand which has not been taken into account in proper operating program, it could lead to the overloading of DTs. So, in this paper, the loss of life (LOL) of a DT that feeds the residential loads and an EV parking lot (EV PL) is investigated. The maximization of the profit of the distribution system operator (DSO) is considered in two different parts i.e. with/without the appropriate operation coefficient (OC) of DT. Also, two different scenarios are applied i.e. charging mode (CM) of EVs and charging/discharging mode (CDM) of EVs. The results show that if the OC is not properly considered, the LOL of the transformers will be significantly high, implying a higher total ownership cost.","PeriodicalId":111104,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 14th International Conference on Compatibility, Power Electronics and Power Engineering (CPE-POWERENG)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131822528","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In coherence with the latter item, energy audits must be conducted every four years in larger companies in order to comply with the directive 2012/27/EU. In this paper, a comprehensive approach for the determination of energy efficiency indicators for drives without knowledge of electrical parameters is presented. A functional relationship between electrical and hydraulic parameters is established by means of measurements. Then an analytical procedure is developed to calculate electrical power and drive efficiency out of archived hydraulic parameters. It was found that the analyzed drives are heavily oversized and the overall efficiency is very low, not more than 34 %. In order to assess possible energy savings, a proposed method is used to generate the efficiency map of the variable frequency pump drive. It is shown that possible savings can reach up to 20 % if the drive is revitalized using a properly sized ultra premium efficiency motor and a new pump designed by modern guidelines to guarantee the best possible efficiency.","PeriodicalId":111104,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 14th International Conference on Compatibility, Power Electronics and Power Engineering (CPE-POWERENG)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132736809","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed topology is based on a three-phase grid-interface (whose role is to operate as a APF grid-tied inverter capable of compensating current harmonics, imbalanced currents and low power factor), on a RES-interface for solar photovoltaic (PV) panels (whose role is to extract the maximum power from the PV panels), and on an ESS-interface for batteries (whose role is to store/inject energy according to the power management of the electrical installation). The paper presents the control algorithms for each interface within the scope of the different operation modes allowed by the unified three-port topology. Simulation and experimental results are presented in order to validate the distinguishing aspects of the proposed unified three-port topology.","PeriodicalId":111104,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 14th International Conference on Compatibility, Power Electronics and Power Engineering (CPE-POWERENG)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124285199","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This problem applies to infrastructures that provide essential services on a day-to-day basis to the society, such as in this specific case study, a Data Center. In these cases, proper functioning is essential in times of crisis so that technology companies that provide services to other companies, entities or average users are not affected.Following this problem arises the theme of this paper. A methodology is then proposed to quantify and evaluate the impact that an equipment's failure had on a given infrastructure, taking into consideration its importance and the time taken to resolve it. To obtain a quantitative value, a metric that considers the technical characteristics of the analyzed infrastructure will be used. In the carried-out tests, it was concluded that the system provided values that allowed to order the events, that occurred over a year, according to their real impact. The sample of events to be used will correspond to the number of days between the events that have occurred (or incidents) over the course of a year. This proposed methodology is applicable only when the set of incidents follows a Poisson distribution.","PeriodicalId":111104,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 14th International Conference on Compatibility, Power Electronics and Power Engineering (CPE-POWERENG)","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128328467","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It introduces the DESG as a constant speed constant frequency (CSCF) generating system with the facility of controlling the reactive power, and as a variable-speed constant-frequency (VSCF) similar to the DFIG with advantages of higher efficiency, lower copper losses, and easier controlled due to the presence of the two field windings. A new control technique for maximize the active output power and controlling the generated reactive power is proposed. This technique is based on controlling the magnitude and phase angle of the field winding to control active and reactive power, respectively. To validate the proposed control strategy, simulation results for 1.1 kW DESG-based wind system are carried out by MATLAB-Simulink.","PeriodicalId":111104,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 14th International Conference on Compatibility, Power Electronics and Power Engineering (CPE-POWERENG)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130065161","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, voltage sags and overvoltages can affect not only the catenary voltage and trains operation in transformer-based substations but also power electronics converters connected to those grids. Today, more and more converters are needed to improve the railway system operation and most of them can be affected by phenomena occurring in the ac voltage. This paper focus the STATCOM/Balancer operation connected to the three-phase ac grid and analyses its robustness against voltage sags and overvoltages using a specific global control approach.","PeriodicalId":111104,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 14th International Conference on Compatibility, Power Electronics and Power Engineering (CPE-POWERENG)","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128918458","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
