Type 2 diabetes mellitus is the root cause of diabetic nephropathy, a condition affecting the kidneys (T2DM). The number of people who have type 2 diabetes is growing. Aim. To evaluate the differences in Apelin 13 levels between patients with T2DM who had normal or microalbuminuria and those who had microalbuminuria, as well as between these patients and healthy controls. The intent is to better understand its link to microalbumin, haemoglobin A1c, insulin resistance (IR), and other standard measures. Materials and methods. Sixty individuals with type 2 diabetes, aged 35 to 45, were selected, and their microalbuminuria and normoalbuminuria were compared. Thirty age-matched healthy volunteers were selected to serve as controls. The concentrations of Apelin 13 and insulin in the plasma were measured with ELISA kits. The Turbilatex assay was used to calculate microalbumin concentrations. Measurements of glycosylated haemoglobin (HbA1C) were made via high-performance liquid chromatography. Results. Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus had higher levels of the protein Apelin 13 in their plasma than did healthy controls. T2DM patients with microalbuminuria were different from normoalbuminuric patients in another important way. Correlations between plasma Apelin 13 and albuminuria, HbA1c, and HOMA-IR were all positive. Conclusion. Considering that plasma Apelin 13 is a critical risk factor in Type 2 diabetes mellitus and frequently arises in the early stages of nephropathy, it may be useful for the assessment of vascular issues in type 2 diabetic patients.","PeriodicalId":11071,"journal":{"name":"Current Issues in Pharmacy and Medical Sciences","volume":"36 1","pages":"45 - 47"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2023-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46432612","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The health-promoting effects of sprouts are due to their rich chemical composition and high nutritional quality compared to standard crop raw materials. Recently, many scientific studies have pointed to the medicinal and therapeutic effects of chia seeds (Salvia hispanica), but there is still a lack of research on the composition and biological properties of chia sprouts. In addition to chia sprouts, chia microgreens (microleaves) are becoming prominent in the food industry. This paper reviews the literature data on research on chia sprouts and microgreens. In the work, the process of sprouting chia seeds to boost their nutraceutical properties by increasing their content of protein, dietary fiber, vitamins and mineral salts, is revealed. The review underlines the fact that sprouting contributes to the enhancement of antioxidant potential by increasing the production of polyphenolic compounds from the phenolic acid group and flavonoids. What is more, single studies noted in the study indicate the antimicrobial properties of chia sprout extracts against Gram-negative (Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhi, Pseudomonas aeruginosa) and Gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus) bacterial strains. The paper is the first comprehensive review of the latest scientific information on the comparison of chia: dry seeds, sprouted seeds, sprouts and microgreens.","PeriodicalId":11071,"journal":{"name":"Current Issues in Pharmacy and Medical Sciences","volume":"36 1","pages":"33 - 43"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2023-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44283290","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Natural and synthetic thio-containing compounds are important in this respect. Most of these, however, have side effects and do not always meet the criteria of evidence-based medicine. Therefore, the search for new drugs with hepatoprotective properties, characterized by high efficiency and low toxicity, is an urgent problem of current pharmacology and biochemistry. The purpose of this study was to assess the acute toxicity of new potentially bioactive S-substituted pteridinones, to select the least toxic substance, to improve the pharmaco-technological characteristics, and to study the hepatoprotective properties in an experimental model of tetrachloromethane hepatitis in rats. Herein, comparison of the hepatoprotective properties of compound 4.1 and the reference drug \"Thiotriazoline\" is based on biochemical studies. The research results showed that sub-stance 4.1 had a positive effect on biochemical processes by increasing the compensatory mechanisms of antioxidant systems, while reducing the infiltrative, destructive and inflamma-tory process in the liver, evoking decreases in the cytolytic process, restoring the structure of the components of the membrane of hepatocytes, stabilizing and enhancing the functional activity of the liver, restoring the liver’s protein-synthesizing function and increasing the abil-ity to restore metabolic disorders in the liver. As a result of the biochemical study of the hepa-toprotective effect of compound 4.1, it was found that the studied substance is a non-toxic compound with antioxidant properties.","PeriodicalId":11071,"journal":{"name":"Current Issues in Pharmacy and Medical Sciences","volume":"36 1","pages":"21 - 26"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2023-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48630160","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this prospective study, 188 adults were enrolled, drawn from the out-patients unit of Thalassemia Cente The collected data were categorized into three groups: group 1 included the data of 100 healthy individuals of age range of 18-50 years as control; group 2 included the data of 88 (40 males and 48 females) sickle cell disease patients in steady state before supplementation of vitamin D; group 3 represented the data of the same 88 sickle cell disease patients as measured and recorded after 6 weeks of vitamin D supplementation. Laboratory measurements including pulmonary function tests and hematological parameters, while vitamin D levels were estimated for all groups to compare the data before and after supplementation of vitamin We found significant differences in the pulmonary function tests when comparing groups. Mean value of FEV1 revealed significant differences between group 1 and 2 (p >0.05), while vitamin D supplement created a significant difference between group 2 and 3 (p >0.05). The improvement in FEV1 did not reach to that of healthy (group 1), as referred by the significant variation between group 1 and group 3 (p>0.05). The same findings were indicative within most pulmonary function tests, and the percentages of combined cases (restrictive and obstructive) were also deceased in group 3. Conclusion: supplement of vitamin D in SCD patients could result in relative improvement in lung function.","PeriodicalId":11071,"journal":{"name":"Current Issues in Pharmacy and Medical Sciences","volume":"36 1","pages":"48 - 53"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2023-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69192252","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This randomized double-blind clinical trial evaluated 112 patients in four groups (n=28) based on the jaw (maxilla or mandible) and type of anesthetic agent (lidocaine with epinephrine or prilocaine with felypressin). Groups 1 and 2 received IAN block of the mandible or infiltration anesthesia of the maxilla, respectively, with 2% lidocaine plus 1:80.000 epinephrine. Groups 3 and 4 received IAN block of the mandible or infiltration anesthesia of the maxilla, respectively, using prilocaine with felypressin. Systolic and diastolic blood pressures and HR were measured by an automatic upper arm blood pressure monitor and the percentage of peripheral oxygen saturation rate was measured by a finger pulse oximeter 10 minutes before the injection, immediately after injection, 10 minutes after injection and 20 minutes after injection. The mean diastolic blood pressure showed a greater reduction following the administration of lidocaine with epinephrine, as compared with prilocaine with felypressin (p<0.001). The mean HR showed a significantly greater increase following the administration of lidocaine with epinephrine, as compared with prilocaine with felypressin (p<0.001). The effect of type of anesthetic agent on diastolic blood pressure depended on the type of injection (p=0.033). Administration of 2% lidocaine with 1:80.000 epinephrine, in comparison to prilocaine with felypressin, can cause changes in cardiovascular parameters such as heart rate and diastolic blood pressure in patients undergoing restoration of a maxillary or mandibular molar tooth. Type of injection has no significant effect on cardiovascular parameters.","PeriodicalId":11071,"journal":{"name":"Current Issues in Pharmacy and Medical Sciences","volume":"36 1","pages":"1 - 7"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2023-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47774097","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A cross-sectional study aimed to study the prevalence of HBV among hemodialysis patients in Aljazeera State, Hospital for Renal Disease and Surgery during the period between March and August 2018. A total of ninety-one blood samples were obtained randomly from hemodialysis patients. The plasma was examined for the presence of HBsAg using a sandwich Enzyme-Linked Immuno-Sorbent Assay (ELISA). Data collected by a structured questionnaire included sociodemographic data such as age, sex, marital status, education level, duration of dialysis, previous HBV vaccination, history of surgical operation, history of jaundice and history of blood transfusion. Detectable marker for HBV infections (HBsAg) were found in 21 (23.1%) patients, while the remaining 70 patients (76.9%) were negative. We noted that education level and a history of jaundice had a significant effect on the seroprevalence of HBV, with a P value <0.05. The study concluded that HBV infection among hemodialysis (HD) patients is high. So, extensive effort to enroll HD patients in a vaccination programme against HBV is recommended. Moreover, periodically screening for early detection of HBV infection among hemodialysis patients is deemed essential in order to for therapeutic measures to be promptly initiated, and for the prevention and protection of other patients and staff in the hemodialysis unit.","PeriodicalId":11071,"journal":{"name":"Current Issues in Pharmacy and Medical Sciences","volume":"36 1","pages":"8 - 11"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2023-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44793714","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The present study was carried out to evaluate the wound healing potential of crude Hydroalcoholic fruit extracts of Grape (Vitis vinifera L.) and Pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) in experimental animals. Material and methods. Extracts were formulated as ointments (250 mg), and their wound healing properties were determined by using two models: i.e. excision and burn models, in rabbits. Wound healing potential was assessed by measuring rate of wound contraction (percentage wound contraction) and the epithelialization period. Tukey test (HSD) test was used to analyze the obtained results. The value of p <0.05 was considered as a level of significance. The reference standard was wadded Cicatryl® ointment. Results. The result showed that crude fruit extracts of Vitis vinifera L. and Punica granatum L. exhibited a significant (p <0.0001) rate of wound contraction and significant (p<0.0001) decrease in the period of epithelialization compared to the control (untreated) group in both the models studied. Conclusion. Our results suggest that topical treatment of fruit extracts of Vitis vinifera L. and Punica granatum L. accelerate wound healing activity, thus our study supports their traditional use. Both extracts can be used as a potential source of wound healing therapeutics.","PeriodicalId":11071,"journal":{"name":"Current Issues in Pharmacy and Medical Sciences","volume":"36 1","pages":"12 - 17"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2023-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42931492","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Sapropels are natural healing resources that contain a large amount of HA. The pharmaceutical market of Ukraine needs domestic drugs with dermatotropic action based on natural compounds that have a combined antibacterial, wound healing and anti-inflammatory activity, as well low toxicity. The aims of the research: standardization of the gel under the conditional name \"Saprogel\" for use in medicine as a wound-healing and anti-inflammatory agent, development of methods for identification and quantification, as well as their validation. A linear dependence between the concentration of the total mass fraction of HA on the mass of the sample of aqueous sapropel extract (ASE) with a correlation coefficient of 0.9985 (≥0.9981) was observed, while the angular coefficient of linear dependence (b) was found to be 1.02, with the free member of linear dependence (a) being – 1.66≤2.60. The obtained results show that the method is precise because the value of the relative confidence interval is less than the critical value for the convergence of the results: Δ%=1.27≤1.60 and the criterion of the insignificance of systematic error: δ=0.51. As a result of the quantitative analysis, we found that the total mass fraction of HA in the gel samples from the wind farm is 1.302%.","PeriodicalId":11071,"journal":{"name":"Current Issues in Pharmacy and Medical Sciences","volume":"36 1","pages":"27 - 32"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2023-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49562049","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
