These literatures focus mainly on the capacity of crowds to generate ideas, but much less is known about a crowd's capacity to select ideas. To study crowd-based idea selection in firms, this paper develops a mathematical model of a crowd that makes decisions by majority voting. The model takes into account contingencies that are of particular importance to firms, namely: the size of the population from which the crowd is drawn, the distribution of accuracy among members of the population, and the firm's ability to recruit the population's most accurate individuals. The results show that: (i) under relatively common conditions, increasing the size of the crowd may actually reduce performance; (ii) near-optimal performance can usually be achieved by a much smaller crowd than the one required to achieve optimal performance; (iii) determining the best crowd size depends critically on the firm's ability to recruit \"accurate\" individuals; and (iv) good performance does not require large crowds unless all population members exhibit low levels of accuracy.","PeriodicalId":11062,"journal":{"name":"Development of Innovation eJournal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79378336","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The fact will remain that no macro level objectives can ever be focused upon without dissecting the micro level situations. The city of Kolkata grew on a glorious past attributed to many reasons - one of which is the presence of an extensive network of canals. The city is also blessed to exclusively harbor the East Kolkata Wetlands (EKW) which happens to be the world’s largest self sustaining organic sewage management system. But some loose administrative decisions let both EKW and the canals project an alarming image in their own ways today. These open spaces have been largely vulnerable to encroachments. This paper will focus on their role and potential by measuring their present day conditions and suggest some model proposals as an answer to the rapidly changing urban situations of the city.","PeriodicalId":11062,"journal":{"name":"Development of Innovation eJournal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80619580","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Modern information and communication technologies enable stakeholders to punish buying firms for any sustainability-related grievances at their suppliers, even in remote locations. This study investigates how the notion of country sustainability risk can inform sustainable supply chain management, in particular with respect to sustainability risk assessment at the individual supplier level. Drawing on institutional theory, we provide insights surrounding the emergence of environmental, social and governance-related country-level sustainability risks and show their implications for and application in sustainable supply chain management. The study employs a design science methodology, based on cooperation with a multi-divisional German technology firm, to develop a supply chain sustainability risk (SCSR) map as technological solution design. This paper contributes to the study of SCSR by reconciling the scholarly SCSR discourse with the buying firms’ pursuit of efficiency. Moreover, it elucidates the augmentation of a research agenda through a design science approach. In practical terms, the technological solution design can directly inform managers about SCSR at the country level, and serves as a decision basis for the management of individual suppliers.","PeriodicalId":11062,"journal":{"name":"Development of Innovation eJournal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88548832","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Facilitating and building patent pools for technology standards is crucial for their success, which is done by pool adminstrators. Practitioners believe that many factors have lead to inefficiencies such as delays, failures and the inlcusion of non-essential patents in new patent pools formations. However, the potential role of expert pool administering party on these inefficiencies has not been studied yet. This paper develops a simple model of pool formation which determines the optimal strategies of a rent seeking pool administrator. The results show that pool forming strategies by the pool administrator may contribute to delays and failures in pool formation process. Also, in the environments where the essentiality claims are difficult to assess or the industries with higher pace of technology, the pool administrator may find it optimal to include the patents in the pool regardless of the essentially evaluation and launch the...","PeriodicalId":11062,"journal":{"name":"Development of Innovation eJournal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85646318","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Structural decomposition of constituents of innovation work at the enterprise is presented. It was established that the program for diagnosing objects of innovation work includes a linear algorithm, which consists of a sequence of actions such as: 1) the formulation of diagnostic objectives; 2) determination of internal losses in labor processes (assessment of the organization of work and production by business indicators: working time, resources and quality); 3) analysis of external factors and innovation risks; 4) assessment of resource capacity; 5) identification of objects of innovation work. It was found out that: 1) the result of the diagnostics of objects of innovation work is the definition of innovative opportunities in the system of organization of labor and production, which are the basis for the development and implementation of innovative proposals, which prompts the increase of innovation activity of personnel; 2) innovative activity of the personnel of the company depends on many factors, among which the innovative enterprise strategy plays an important role. The prospect of further research in this direction is the formation of practical recommendations for improving the system of partial diagnostic purposes of the company's polycriterial economic diagnosis, taking into account the presented research results.","PeriodicalId":11062,"journal":{"name":"Development of Innovation eJournal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-03-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87579292","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We use structural equation modelling technique to test our propositions using the survey data from IT executives on self-reported importance scores they assign to different types of IT competences. We find that digitally mature companies are more likely to establish partnerships with the third parties with a purpose of jointly carrying out digital innovation projects.","PeriodicalId":11062,"journal":{"name":"Development of Innovation eJournal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89319990","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The analysis has brought out that the rural unorganised manufacturing in the state has been undergoing considerable structural change over the years; the share of household-based enterprises has been declining, while that of the establishments has been increasing. At the disaggregated industry level, however, the sector continues to be predominated by a set of agro-based industries such as food and beverages, textiles, and wood products. The sector has been decelerating over the years; the growth rate of output has been decelerating, while growth rate of enterprises and employment has been negative during 1994-95 to 2010-11, which is mainly due to sharp deceleration of the OAMEs segment, otherwise the establishments segment has achieved a relatively high growth. Across industry groups, except machinery and electrical, metal products, and transport and equipment, all other industry groups have registered negative growth in number of enterprises and employment, while most of the industry groups have achieved a relatively high growth in real value added. The implication is that growth in value added per worker has been quite high and the employment elasticity has been negative; only machinery and electrical, transport and equipment, and metal products have shown employment potentiality in the rural unorganised manufacturing in the state.","PeriodicalId":11062,"journal":{"name":"Development of Innovation eJournal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76580077","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
