GIS for IT Operation at Saudi Aramco

Abstract

In Saudi Aramco, Information Technology operation departments are supporting oil and gas operations by providing and supporting IT services and infrastructure all over Saudi Arabia. This work is carried out across a vast geographical area that includes both onshore and offshore remote areas. To manage these challenges faced by IT management, a GIS solution was developed. It provides management and IT operational staff with new GIS tools to help with tracking, monitoring, and locating resources and assets. In IT there are more than 1100 employees and contractors supporting communication infrastructure operation, maintenance and IT services provisioning. The staff support around 60,000 users and workstations in more than 3,000 locations. They also provide services to a huge number of assets, including: telephones, radio devices, network devices, VSAT connectivity, etc.
