In order to realize the uplink MU-MIMO transmission in 802.11 WLANs, there are several problems to be solved. Synchronized transmission among the stations (STAs) is one of the problems and the spatial compatibility between the transmitting STAs is another problem. Therefore, it is considered that many overheads are needed to realize the uplink MU-MIMO transmission. In the proposed protocol, after an access point (AP) informs the start of the uplink access phase by transmitting the indication frame, the STAs having data to be sent to the AP transmit the uplink access requests in the OFDMA manner. The AP recognizes the uplink access requests by detecting the subcarrier signals and it requests the detected STAs to transmit the pilot signals in the TDMA manner. The AP calculates the channel state information (CSI) between each STA from the received pilot signal and selects the STAs to be permitted to transmit the uplink frames based on the CSIs. The AP notifies the information about the permitted STAs and about the capable transmission rate, and then the permitted STAs simultaneously transmit the frames at the notified transmission rate. In the protocol, an efficient OFDMA-based uplink access request transmission scheme is also proposed. Thus, by adopting the proposed protocol, the overheads can be reduced and the network throughput can be enhanced. Computer simulations are performed and the results show the effectiveness of the proposed method.","PeriodicalId":110448,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE 20th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"122 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116291451","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In stead of interfering with each other, the two links cooperate by letting a source be a relay of the other one. Under this structure, the two sources can fulfill cooperative transmission together. We also design the frame structure to estimate the double selective channels. Whenever there are no user under the coverage of a home femto base station (at night for example), keeping it on can be seen as a waste of power, excessive interferences and lack of security. This paper proposes a method to switch-off the femto base station radio emission and wake it up when necessary. Our approach uses a second low-power channel that carries out-of-band control information to maintain connectivity. First, the Even-Odd framework is modified to be better suited for different traffic patterns. Second, the scheduling problem in the modified Even-Odd framework is formulated as a Mixed Integer Quadratically Constrainted Programming (MIQCP), and a heuristic solution is derived. The proposed heuristic solution is motivated from the fact that the bottleneck collision domain throttles the capacity of the networks, and the links in the bottleneck collision domain should be allocated resource carefully to maximize the throughput. The numerical results show that the proposed scheduling scheme can achieve throughput which is over 90% of the nominal capacity and the modified Even-Odd framework improve the end-to-end throughput for asymmetric traffic.","PeriodicalId":110448,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE 20th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114836353","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Besides, nodes are often mobile and must contend with limited and obsolete information about the operating state of network during their decision-making. We examine topology control of ad hoc networks and analyze the impact of mobility, selfishness, and partial information on energy efficiency and network connectivity using tools from game theory. We develop a local topology control algorithm that uses the idea of maintaining connectivity of 1-hop neighborhoods. By examining the trade-off between network performance (energy efficiency) and the cost of cooperation (by exchanging control messages) it turns out that mobility and selfishness are, in some sense, synergistic features in information-constrained networks. Such networks consume least energy when nodes are more mobile and have significantly less connectivity information.","PeriodicalId":110448,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE 20th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114842474","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Channel occupancy can be defined as the time occupancy ratio in the case of Wireless LAN (WLAN). We propose a novel passive method to estimate the time occupancy ratio of WLAN. The proposed method produces greater improvement in estimation accuracy compared with that of conventional methods. In this paper, we introduce the definition of the time occupancy ratio as the utilization index of a WLAN radio resource. Then, details of the proposal are introduced. In most of practical cases however, using measured radiolocation metrics as direct observations (e.g. Time of Arrival (TOA) or Time Differential of Arrival (TDOA)) might lead to poor linearization conditions and hence alter estimation precision and robustness accordingly. In this paper, we present an optimization-based method that enables to adaptively build quasi-linear observations as combinations of raw measurements. The main idea is to choose the coefficients of the linear combinations that minimize the Mean Square Error (MSE) of location estimators, while taking into account both bias errors due to linearization and measurement noise effects.","PeriodicalId":110448,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE 20th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127998317","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
