The RF-controlled fading emulator can control RF signals directly in the spatial domain to produce an accurate radio propagation channel model, which includes the uniform and non-uniform angular power spectra (APS) in the horizontal plane. Fading correlation and MIMO channel capacities of a quasi-dipole array, in the case of up to three spatial clusters, are measured by using the emulator. From agreement between the measured data and theoretical values, the effectiveness of the emulator was confirmed.","PeriodicalId":110448,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE 20th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128066125","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Carrier orthogonality of traditional OFDM is intentionally violated in order to generate an encrypted signal at the physical layer, without any loss in bandwidth efficiency or extra overhead. A symmetric secret key is used for the modulation of part of the FDM signal while the original information symbol modulates the remaining carriers. The encrypted FDM signal generation takes place in an IFFT stage by simple truncation of part of its output. At the receiver, a straightforward suppression of the induced Inter-Carrier Interference (ICI) is performed before the OFDM demodulator, based on knowledge of the secret key. The key holder subsequently uses the traditional OFDM FFT demodulator to extract the information symbol. We demonstrate that an eavesdropper cannot demodulate the transmitted FDM signal by reduced complexity detection methods due to its severe ill-conditioning. Conversely, they have to rely on vectorial Maximum Likelihood detection of exponential complexity. Furthermore, in real noisy environments the eavesdropper detection capability is further affected by the abrupt shrinking of the FDM demodulator detection regions.","PeriodicalId":110448,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE 20th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128153435","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To this end we propose a single front-end architecture offering lower complexity and therefore lower power consumption. In order to obtain the same performance as the state of the art receivers, a light weight adaptive method is designed and implemented. It uses a mix of two digital implemented algorithms dedicated to the correction of the front-end IQ mismatches. Based on the least squares (LS) formulation of the source-localization problem, we develop an optimization algorithm that proves mostly unaffected by the number of local minima of the LS-objective function. The algorithm, referred to as range global distance continuation (R-GDC), consists of an iterative procedure in which, at each k-th iteration, the original objective is smoothed by a Gaussian kernel (smoothing function) and minimized by a steepest-descent (SD) method. The results reveal that the R-GDC algorithm, not only outperforms the alternative methods, but also achieves a localization error that is close to theoretical position error bound (PEB).","PeriodicalId":110448,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE 20th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"2008 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131392795","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, an analytical model is formulated to make a justified comparison between two different wakeup schemes, one-channel wakeup radio and two-channel wakeup radio. As the key measurement, energy efficiency is studied by taking the latency requirement as the main constraint. Moreover, the probabilities of miss detection and false alarm as well as the parameters related to network settings are considered in our model. Based on the model, we draw quantitative conclusions on how to choose a more energy-efficient wakeup scheme according to the application scenario. The analytical results are further validated by simulation results.","PeriodicalId":110448,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE 20th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131958811","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The utility function of a player is defined as the difference between the revenue generated from transmitting the bits and the cost of the power consumed. Unlike the commonly adopted water-filling approach where continuous bit loading is used, we consider assigning integer number of bits to subcarriers. We address the existence of pure Nash equilibrium (NE) of the static games for two-cell modulation adaptive and three-cell single modulation OFDMA systems. Theorems related to the existence of pure NE for the two games are developed. Using these results, we show that the existence of a stable solution for the OFDMA games cannot be guaranteed if minimum rate requirements must be satisfied.","PeriodicalId":110448,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE 20th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131969658","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It has been shown that these criteria belong to a set of reasonable Schur-concave or Schur-convex objective functions of the diagonal entries of the system mean-square error (MSE) matrix. In this paper, assuming only the knowledge of channel mean and transmit correlation at both ends, a general theoretical framework is presented to derive the optimum precoder and decoder for MIMO systems using these objective functions. It is shown that for all these objective functions the optimum transceivers share a similar structure. Compared to the case with perfect CSI, a linear filter is added to both ends to balance the suppression of channel noise and the additional noise induced from channel estimation error. However, the OFDM signal has a large PAPR (peak to average power ratio), which results in the significant nonlinear distortion when it passes through a high power amplifier. A number of PAPR reduction techniques have been proposed in the literature, while most of the technique require high computational complexity which is undesirable. In this paper, we propose a unique PAPR reduction method based on intelligent time domain signal paring which can achieve significant PAPR reduction with low complexity.","PeriodicalId":110448,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE 20th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132058486","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Instead of establishing a single static path, tunnel routing identifies a set of trusted sensor nodes that form a tunnel between the source and the destination. Terminals in the tunnel cooperate with each other to reliably route data and to defend against compromised nodes that may maliciously drop or re-direct packets. To achieve this, not only do sensor terminals forward data, but also they act as support nodes, providing on-demand retransmissions in order to combat channel fading, and initializing multi-path data forwarding towards the destination in case they detect a misbehavior of a forwarding node. Simulation results demonstrate the advantages of the proposed scheme.","PeriodicalId":110448,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE 20th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132332891","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our scheme is especially designed to deal with very low communication between a smart antennas equipped secondary network and a primary (legacy) wireless network. Since only the primary antennas' coarse probabilistic locations are known by the secondary network, an uncertainty area is considered for each antenna in terms of its intersection with secondary network radio coverage areas. With only few offline communicated coexistence constraints to be respected by both networks, a Monte Carlo simulation is used to statistically establish the coexistence scheme. Although computationally expensive as compared to our previous technique, the one presented in this paper now approaches the theoretical accuracy upper bound for this coexistence context, hence increasing the wireless coexistence worthiness.","PeriodicalId":110448,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE 20th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132499817","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
