In this paper, we derive analytical bit error rate (BER) expressions that quantify the degradation of BER due to the combined effect of both CFOs as well as TOs; such an analytical BER derivation has not been reported so far for uplink OFDMA in the presence of CFOs and TOs. For the case when the desired user is perfectly frequency/time aligned (and other users have non-zero CFOs/TOs), we obtain an exact closed-form expression for the BER. For the case when the desired user also has non-zero CFO/TO, we obtain an approximate BER expression involving a single integral. Analytical and simulation results are shown to match quite well.","PeriodicalId":110448,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE 20th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"493 2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-05-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114016164","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Instead, low-complexity methods can be applied by separating the partial metric into channel information and a priori information and solely enumerating based on one of them. With such an orthogonalization, this paper presents an algorithm that effectively combines these two enumerations to deliver an order close to the SE one. Mathematical analyses and simulation results demonstrate that this is the first algorithm allowing for a low-complexity implementation with optimal error rate performance for any number of iterations.","PeriodicalId":110448,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE 20th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127715762","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For the purpose of the interference suppression the authors have proposed the canceller algorithm naming DWCC, where the canceller operation is based on decision feedback equalization (DFE), but the performance of the canceller is still subject to the frequency selectivity since the tentative symbol detection at the deep faded subcarriers could not be reliable. In this paper turbo equalized double window cancellation and combining (TE-DWCC) is proposed. Throughout the paper, it is found that the error rate performance of TE-DWCC depends on how to incorporate the channel decoding gain from turbo equalization into DWCC. In addition, it is also shown that TE-DWCC is more compatible with the hard decision feedback (HDF) rather than the soft decision feedback (SDF) due to the ICI elimination method. Finally, by varying interference level, code rate, and decision feedback type, the performances of TE-DWCC are compared with the conventional canceller that adopts turbo equalization in the exponentially distributed slow fading channel.","PeriodicalId":110448,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE 20th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"171 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132829535","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An array antenna at a base station has been thoroughly investigated to increase the uplink capacity. The performance of the uplink is not only limited by the correlation between the antenna elements, which strongly depends on the spatial aspects of the channel, as well as the interference from the terminals. Numerical results through computer simulation show that the proposed scheme improves bit error rate performance because of interference suppression by MMSE combining and diversity reception by TSS at the same time.","PeriodicalId":110448,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE 20th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127846166","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The scenario under consideration is a half-duplex decode-and-forward relay channel. The receiving stations decode the error-correcting-coded bits using Log-Likelihood Ratio (LLR). Here, it is important to set initial LLR to decode the coded data accurately. In this paper, we present how to set the initial LLR for belief propagation decoding with network coding to achieve better decoding error rate performance. We calculate initial LLR based not only on channels from relay station to receiving stations, but also on all channels from sending stations to receiving stations when stations decode error-correcting coded data. When we use turbo code or low-density parity-check (LDPC) code as error-correcting code, we decode the coded data accurately by the use of accurate initial LLR. We provide computer simulation results both under perfect and imperfect channel state information. We show that the proposed method improves bit error rate (BER) performance and that the proposed method decreases the number of decoding iterations.","PeriodicalId":110448,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE 20th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116860350","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This results in the delay profile with the width limited by the bandwidth of the signal. To get better resolution, larger bandwidth is required, however, the bandwidth of broadcasting signals can not be increased by the receiver. In this paper, we propose a new method of the moving target detection with MU-SIC(MUltiple SIgnal Classification), processed at only receiver. That offers much narrower width than that of cross-correlation. The proposed method can distinguish the moving targets from the stationary targts, though the conventional MUSIC can not. This is realized by the decorrelation of the time delay-derived phase rotation factors caused by moving targets. The performances using ISDB-T(Integrated Service Digital Broadcasting -Terrestrial), the bandwidth of which is 5.57MHz, are evaluated by the computer simulations. The results show that two close moving targets, separated by 0.1μs, with SNR=−10dB each can be resolved even if the stationary target is located around the one moving target.","PeriodicalId":110448,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE 20th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131928847","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We assume that secondary users transmits simultaneously with the primary user over the same channel instead of waiting for an idle channel which is traditional for a cognitive radio. We derive the expressions for mutual information received at the primary and secondary receivers in both the cases when cognitive relay is present or not. We also present the closed form expressions for the outage probabilities and complementary cumulative distribution functions (CCDFs) of mutual information received at the primary and secondary receivers in the absence of cognitive relay. Our results show that in the presence of cognitive relay, not only both the primary and multiple secondary users are able to communicate with intended receivers compensating interferences created at their receivers, but also the outage performance of primary and secondary users are improved due to the additional diversity obtained via cognitive relaying.","PeriodicalId":110448,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE 20th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133709725","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, we usually ignore the spatial domain behaviors to fully utilize the radio resource to approach available system capacity. When a signal is transmitted, we usually treat its occupancy of spectrum along all propagation directions. However, up to certain range (distance), the signal strength is weak and possibly allow another co-existing transmission happening with a satisfactory signal to interference-and-noise ratio (SINR) at both transmit-receive (T-R) pairs. In this paper, we realize this concept for a CRN consisting of a primary (PR) T-R pair and a cognitive radio (CR) T-R pair; furthermore, we consider to what condition concurrent transmission can happen. We use the Lagrange multiplier method to determine the optimal power allocation scheme for such a CRN and then determine to what extent can the sum spectral efficiency be enhanced. It is found that the CR transmitter (CR-TX) may either transmit at its maximum allowable power or just turn off with no transmission power. Concurrent transmission of the PR T-R and CR T-R pairs with distance as a new dimension of multiplexing can be considered as a new version of CRN.","PeriodicalId":110448,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE 20th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116830226","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

AP selection is a crucial issue because the performance achieved by a user heavily depends on the AP selected. A received signal strength (RSS)-based association mechanism is specified by the IEEE 802.11 standard. However, this does not consider the channel conditions and AP load, which leads to a low throughput and a low user transmission rate. An alternative to using the RSS is to exploit the airtime metric, which provides users with information on how busy the channel is, but the results of our simulations show that the airtime metric cannot indicate the exact status of the channel. In this paper, we present a new association framework using channel occupancy in order to provide users with exact channel status information of APs. Via the proposed scheme, users can compare the achievable throughput provided by each AP and select the best AP. We validate our proposed association method via simulation results, which show that the throughput improvement of the method is worthy of notice.","PeriodicalId":110448,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE 20th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"102 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116825145","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
