The LC-VCO includes two series LC second harmonic filters which consist of a spiral inductor and two varactors. The resonant frequency of the series LC filter is tunable with the control voltage, and the resonator largely prevents the noise modulation in the LC-VCO, improving the phase-noise of the LC-VCO with wide frequency range. The LC-VCO is fabricated using 0.13 μm CMOS technology, and fully evaluated on wafer. The measured phase-noise of −112dBc/Hz at 1MHz offset from the 15 GHz carrier is obtained.","PeriodicalId":110448,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE 20th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"207 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116881511","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The direct insertion/deletion technique achieves low complexity and low power consumption as compared to the other fractional SRC methods. Using a multiple set insertion/deletion technique is efficient for reduction of distortion caused by the insertion/deletion step. When the conversion factor is (N ±α)/N, the number of possible patterns of insertion/deletion points and the number of combinations for multiple set inserters/deleters grow as α increases. The proposed algorithm minimizes the distortion due to SRC by selecting the patterns and the combinations.","PeriodicalId":110448,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE 20th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116725315","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on the integrated superframe structure of IEEE 802.15.4, this paper proposes a modified medium access control (MAC) protocol for WBAN with focus on the simplicity, dependability and power efficiency. Considering the support to multiple physical layer (PHY) technologies including ultra-wide band (UWB), the slotted ALOHA is employed in the contention access period (CAP) to request the slot allocation. Mini-slot method is designed to enhance the efficiency of the contention. Moreover, sufficient slot allocation in the contention-free period (CFP) makes the proposed protocol adaptive to the different traffic including the medical and non-medical applications. Simulation results show that the protocol effectively decreases the probability of collision in a CAP and extends the CFP slots to support more traffic with quality of service (QoS) guarantee.","PeriodicalId":110448,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE 20th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130372171","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, due to the effects of fading, individual cognitive radios may not be able to reliably detect the existence of a primary radio. Cooperative sensing is proposed as a means to mitigate such effects. In this paper, we analyze a trade-off between the local processing overhead and the cooperation overhead. Numerical results show that the throughput of cognitive radio network decreases as the cooperation overhead increases due to the increase in the number of cooperation users.","PeriodicalId":110448,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE 20th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"63 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115148297","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In heterogeneous wireless networks, the problem is complicated since there are many differences cell coverage due to the frequency band, traffic conditions, data rate, and moving speed of MS (Mobile Station). This work presents a novel clock synchronization method for energy-constrained wireless sensor networks (WSNs). To conserve WSN energy, this study adopts the flooding time synchronization scheme based on one-way timing messages. Via the proposed approach, the maximum-likelihood (ML) estimation of clock parameters, such as clock skew and clock offset, can be obtained for clock synchronization. Additionally, with the proposed scheme, the clock skew and offset estimation problem will be transformed into a problem independent of random delay and propagation delay. One fundamental question to apply the network MIMO technique in such a high interference environment is: how many base station should coordinate together to provide sufficient signal-to-interference plus noise ratio (SINR) performance? We find that on top of the tri-sector directional antenna and fractional frequency reuse (FFR), the network MIMO based on the proposed three-cell coordination strategy can already improve SINR performance significantly compared to the 19-cell coordination network MIMO without FFR and tri-sector cellular architecture.","PeriodicalId":110448,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE 20th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121982376","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In ad-hoc network, since there is no fixed infrastructure, each node has to record the traceback information and reconstruct the trace-path by itself. In conventional researches, since traceback is handled by each node, the variation of network topology by mobility of nodes causes degradation of success rate of the trace-path reconstruction and increase of traffic by inquiring traceback information to the all nodes on the network. In this paper, to achieve a traceback method that some nodes act as units by using clustering technique, we propose the schemes to manage information about traceback in each cluster and reconstruct a trace-path efficiently, and a traceback method between each cluster head. In our scheme, we can avoid degradation of success rate of the trace-path reconstruction caused by mobility of each node and because traceback is handled by only cluster heads we can also reduce the traffic and time for traceback. By a computer simulation, we evaluate the number of queries and success rate of traceback and show that the proposed scheme can reduce the both number of queries and achieve high success rate of traceback.","PeriodicalId":110448,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE 20th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"262 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116047407","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The optimal user selection algorithm is to try all the combinations of users to find the user group that can achieve the multiuser diversity. However, the calculation amount of the optimal algorithm is too large to implement. Thus, instead of the optimal algorithm, some suboptimal user selection algorithms were proposed based on semiorthogonality of user channel vectors. The purpose of this paper is to achieve multiuser diversity with a small amount of calculation. For this purpose, we propose a user selection algorithm that can improve the orthogonality of a selected user group. Simulation results show that the proposed user selection algorithm achieves higher sum rate capacity than the SUS (Semiorthogonal User Selection) algorithm. As the result of a discussion on the calculation complexity, the proposed algorithm is shown to have a calculation complexity almost equal to that of the SUS algorithm, and they are much lower than that of the optimal user selection algorithm.","PeriodicalId":110448,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE 20th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128425287","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

CCI cancellation algorithms by using only one receiving antenna named single antenna interference cancellation (SAIC) have been under intense research. However, most of these algorithms require additional information from interfering signals. Furthermore, the orthogonality of a asynchronous interfering signal is destroyed and therefore, conventional SAIC algorithms cannot be applied. In this paper, we propose a blind SAIC algorithm named least mean square-blind joint maximum likelihood sequence estimation (LMS-BJMLSE) for asynchronous interference cancellation. The proposed LMS-BJMLSE algorithm is blind with respect to interfering signals and neither the training sequence (TS) nor pilot signal from interfering signals is needed. Its complexity is independent of channel length compared to the conventional time domain JMLSE algorithm. Simulation results show that the proposed LMS-BJMLSE algorithm could greatly improve the BER performance in both synchronous and asynchronous interference conditions.","PeriodicalId":110448,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE 20th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"220 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132313120","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
