The classical transmit antenna diversity technique as Space-Frequency Block Coding (SFBC) will destroy the order and structure of the original symbols and thus enhance the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR). To solve this problem, a modified scheme of SFBC compatible with low PAPR is proposed in this paper. In order to achieve more diversity gain, a new subcarrier mapping method is proposed by which one turbo coded stream is transmitted from multiple frequency bands of Nx SC-FDMA system. The proposed SFBC scheme is based on the groups rather than the symbols which remains the same signal distribution as the equivalent conventional transmission to reduce the PAPR. Due to the channel varying in frequency domain during one turbo coded stream, the new subcarrier mapping method has mapped the one turbo coded stream to the different frequency bands to achieve multiple-branch frequency diversity gain. Simulation results show that the proposed transmit diversity scheme has good PAPR and Block Error Rate (BLER) on frequency selective MIMO channels.","PeriodicalId":110448,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE 20th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129259929","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is proposed that received data from all receive antennas on one frequency tone are considered jointly, and then minimum mean square error (MMSE) equalization is implemented. This algorithm can reduce the calculation complexity greatly, and has the same performance as the conventional algorithms. After equalization, data from one transmit antenna on all frequency tones are processed together and transformed into time domain. Later, extrinsic Log-likelihood ratio (LLR) is calculated and sent to Soft-In Soft-Out (SISO) decoder. Theoretical deduction and simulation prove that it can obtain the same performance with a low complexity.","PeriodicalId":110448,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE 20th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124973469","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This happens due to quick channel variation and its resulting protocol overheads that are especially large for multiuser multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems. In this paper, we propose a relay-assisted multiuser MIMO downlink system to support highly mobile wireless access. Through a theoretical throughput analysis that explicitly considers the protocol overheads, we show that the MIMO relay significantly enhances the sum throughput of the system.","PeriodicalId":110448,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE 20th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127020340","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We first present a precoding scheme based on algebraic lattices over real number fields. We prove that this full-rate scheme achieves full-diversity, assuming availability of full channel state information at the transmitter. We then propose a precoding scheme which achieves full-rate and high orders of diversity with limited feedback. The proposed scheme involves a precoder codebook design consisting of unitary matrices parametrized by a single angular parameter, thereby requiring less feedback overhead. Our simulation results show that the proposed limited feedback precoding scheme provides a performance improvement of 1.5 dB and 2.5 dB at a bit error rate of 10−3 over existing schemes for 2×2 and 4×4 V-BLAST systems, respectively, using 4-QAM.","PeriodicalId":110448,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE 20th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130681235","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

When each device has limited resources to sense which channels are available, the task becomes a reinforcement learning problem that has been studied with partially observable Markov decision processes (POMDPs). However, current POMDP solutions are based on simplistic representations where channels are simply on/off (transmitting or idle). We show that more complicated Markov models where on/off states are part of complicated behavior of the channel owner (primary user) yield better POMDPs achieving more successful transmissions and less collisions.","PeriodicalId":110448,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE 20th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"104 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124023157","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most of the work on network coding focuses on the obtained throughput gain. They show that mixing lineally the packets at the intermediate nodes is capacity-achieving. However, network coding schemes designed only to maximize the throughput could be unfairly biased. The reason is that by mixing different flows, packets destined to one destination in order to be decoded need to wait for the reception of the whole mixed set of encoded packets that may be totally independent in terms of final destination. This may lead to highly unfair delay for small block data. To mitigate this unfairness, relay nodes may mix only packets going to the same destination. We call this strategy FairMix. Although FairMix may limit the maximum attainable throughput, it aims to make distinct for decoding delay of each destination corresponding to the size of the data block. In order to investigate this trade off, we compare the FairMix performance with a naive network coding which mixes packets destined to different destinations. The simulation under lossy wireless links, limited memory and bandwidth resources, and different block sizes shows that FairMix is effective in improving fairness among destinations in comparison to naive network coding.","PeriodicalId":110448,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE 20th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123493588","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Multi-cell joint transmission or joint detection schemes are means to overcome this limitation and to actively exploit signal propagation across cell borders rather than treating it as noise. A major downside to multi-cell signal processing is the additional backhaul rate that is required to exchange information among cooperating base stations. Hence, cooperation schemes are desired that efficiently utilize the available backhaul rate. In the cellular uplink, one promising option to mitigate interference and thus to significantly increase the efficiency of spectrum usage is the exchange of decoded messages among base station, an information that can be used to subtract interference prior to the decoding of further messages. In this work, this distributed interference subtraction scheme is extended by allowing multiple iterative information exchanges among base stations. Possible gains of this strategy in terms of achievable data rates and required backhaul rates are explored from an information theoretical point of view.","PeriodicalId":110448,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE 20th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"72 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116285678","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
