To further improve the uplink transmission performance, the transmit diversity technique can be used. Cyclic delay transmit diversity (CDTD) can strengthen the frequency-selectivity of the channel. In this paper, we apply CDTD to 2D block spread CDMA with MMSE-FDE. The achievable uplink BER performance is evaluated by computer simulation for both direct sequence CDMA and multi-carrier CDMA. It is shown that CDTD can offer improved uplink BER performance in a frequency-selective uplink channel.","PeriodicalId":110448,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE 20th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115208097","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This allows mobile terminals to lower their maximum transmission power and use other terminals to relay their traffic towards the base station. However, there is still a large amount of interference surrounding the base station because all traffic either emanates or is destined to the base station making it the capacity bottleneck of the network. In order to reduce the interference surrounding the base station, we propose a novel architecture called the autonomous infrastructure multihop cellular network. In this architecture, certain mobile terminals that have a connection to the backbone network will be allowed to act as access points. Access points will receive traffic from other terminals and send it directly onto the backbone network, as would a base station. This will reduce the amount of traffic required to be handled by the base station and increase network capacity. The results of our analysis and simulations show that when mobile terminals can act as access points, the SINR at the base station is higher, the power consumption is lower and the coverage is better than in a normal multihop cellular network.","PeriodicalId":110448,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE 20th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"79 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116012111","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Micro/Macro-cell services such as WLAN/WiMAX have been much attention because they achieve a high throughput. Since proliferation of these services are expected, base stations (BSs) need to be located at various heights and locations in outdoor environments. Although many publications have reported measurements of the channel state information (CSI) in outdoor environments, the relationship between the BS heights or locations and the transmission performance in MIMO systems has not yet been fully investigated. Moreover, when the number of BSs increases per area, inter-cell interference problem occurs. Such an interference deteriorates the communication quality. In this paper, the experiment is conducted in urban area, in Japan, and the CSI was obtained using 4×4 MIMO-OFDM signals. We present signal to noise ratio (SNR), channel capacity and eigenvalues in MIMO channels, when the BS heights and locations are changed. We clarify that eigenvalues are one of important parameters for not only the channel capacity in MIMO channels but also inter-cell interference by the analysis using the measured MIMO channels.","PeriodicalId":110448,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE 20th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"246 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116143055","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Each user unit transmits randomly selected random access code, and the Node B (base station) detects each code by correlating the received signal with all possible random access codes. By comparing the correlation output power to the threshold, randomly selected codes are identified. This paper considers random access process of LTE system in relay network. A problem caused by the introduction of relay network is addressed, and a solution is provided. The proposed solution includes the power control strategy for both downlink broadcast signal and uplink random access signal. Based on the proposed DPC integration architecture, we focus on one-dimensional DPC to optimize the unicast throughput as well as guarantee the coverage of broadcast. It is shown that there is inevitable precoding loss of Tomlinson-Harashima precoding (THP) and structured DPC (SDPC) as they only consider signal amplitude for DPC encoding. The proposed DPC method, called as DPC with phase reshaping (DPC-PR), establishes a connection between DPC and phase reconstruction at the receiver. For QPSK case, link level simulation results prove that DPC-PR outperforms SDPC up to 4dB in AWGN channel. System level performance is also investigated in this paper where unicast applies DPC with known interference of broadcast and broadcast works on single frequency network (SFN) manner. Performances without DPC integration are shown for comparison.","PeriodicalId":110448,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE 20th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122759126","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Through simulations, we conclude that the simulated different churn models do not have a significant effect on the performance of the simulated structured P2P network. Specifically, PTS-AIC with adjacent subblock partitioning and interleaved subblock partitioning are proposed and compared. There have been some efforts to strengthen the notion of IEVs to make them applicable to fading channels, but those efforts only led to bounds still loose at low signal-to-noise power ratios (SNRs). In this paper, we propose a new union bound based on the notion of IEVs and apply it to a space-time spreading (STS) code-division multiple access (CDMA) system over an MIMO Rayleigh fading channel. We calculate a BER upper bound for the ML receiver in a downlink space-time CDMA system and show that the upper bound is tighter than the previously known union bound based on the conventional strengthening of the IEV property and than the well-known limit-before-averaging (LBA) bound more than one transmit antennas.","PeriodicalId":110448,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE 20th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129508185","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cognitive MAC protocols allow a class of users, called secondary users, to identify the unused frequency spectrum and to communicate without interfering with the primary users. In our proposed MAC protocol, each secondary user is equipped with two transceivers. One of the transceivers is used for control messages while the other periodically senses and dynamically utilizes the unused data channel. The secondary users report the status of channels on control channel and negotiate on the selected data channel itself for onward data transmission. Each channel is used by different set of secondary users. Contrary to existing protocols, data transmission takes place in the time slot in which spectrum opportunity is found. We develop a new analytical model, while taking into account the backoff mechanism. Our simulation results show that throughput increases with the increase in the number of channels.","PeriodicalId":110448,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE 20th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128291742","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, in slow-varying fading channel, this technique suffers from low per-link throughput since some users with highest SNR at the destination access the channel for a long period while others will have to wait until their channel condition improves. In this paper we propose joint transmit beamforming and fixed cyclic delay diversity (CDD) at the relay nodes to enhance the transmit signals from relays to the destination link and to improve the perlink throughput performance. Combining transmit beamforming with CDD approach creates more fluctuation among subcarriers resulting in time-varying SNR at each destination. Therefore, the scheduler can now successfully provide more chance to users to have access to the channel by allocating subcarriers to users whose SNR are highest and thus the per-link throughput is enhanced. Simulation results show that the system performance using the proposed method increases significantly compared with the other previously proposed cooperative diversity techniques.","PeriodicalId":110448,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE 20th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129159226","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
