Evidence shows that pandemics have increased during the last century as a result of increasing international travel and connectivity, industrialization, agricultural expansion, and higher destruction of the natural environment. Over time, emerging pathogen strains cause pandemics that raise suffering, death, and instability in countries. Flu, plague, cholera, HIV, and the current COVID-19 pandemic caused by a novel coronavirus are just a few of the pathogen outbreaks. Unfortunately, given the lack of information and instruments to tackle the problem, managing new and developing infections is frequently challenging. Yet, the use of herbal remedies to treat new and developing infectious illnesses has received much interest. Until the invention of antibiotics, herbal plants, their preparations, and extracted phytoconstituents were reported to be efficient in reducing infectious diseases. Plants contain numerous complex metabolites, such as amino acids, alkaloids, tannins, flavonoids, terpenoids, and glycosides, that show different therapeutic activities. This review provides vital and useful information regarding herbal drugs and their effectiveness against various pathogens that cause major pandemics.\u0000

The available therapies mainly focus on decreasing ammonia levels either through increasing its elimination or decreasing its production, some medications may subside the duration and limit the consequences of HE, but there is no complete available treatment for HE-like manifestation. Thus, there is a need to explore new pharmacotherapy for the treatment and management of HE. Flavonoids are polyphenolic compounds easily found in vegetables, fruits, flowers, beverages, and plants based foods. In modern research, flavonoids have gained attention due to their broad pharmacological properties, like anti-oxidant, anti-viral, anti-inflammatory, cardioprotective, cytoprotective, and neuroprotective activity. Several pre-clinical studies suggest that various flavonoids have a potential therapeutic role in a variety of metabolic-related neurological disorders, including HE. This review focuses on all pre-clinical reports that highlight the neuroprotective potential of natural flavonoids for the management of HE. Based on numerous pre-clinical studies and taking into account the therapeutic effects of natural flavonoids, the present study illustrates the cellular and molecular mechanisms responsible for the potential role of natural flavonoids as pharmacotherapy for the management and treatment of HE.\u0000

Nearly 10- 20 % of the world's population is affected by GERD. Due to the complications associated with GERD, as well as complications of long-term treatment with current medications, and global demand toward Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM), this study evaluated the efficacy of a poly-herbal formulation known as Mastic pill (Habb-e-Mastaki) from traditional Persian medicine (TPM), previously reformulated and standardized, in a double-blinded randomized clinical trial.\u0000\u0000\u0000\u000034 patients in the drug group received 4 capsules of Mastic pill plus Omeprazole capsule 20 mg daily. 34 patients in the placebo group received the same dosing of Omeprazole and placebo. The medication was given to patients for a total duration of 4 weeks. All patients were requested to fill out the modified GERD-HRQL questionnaire at the beginning and every two weeks for a total duration of six weeks.\u0000\u0000\u0000\u0000Reflux, and heartburn severity score as well as disruption of personal life score significantly reduced in both groups, but it was more remarkable in the drug group (P-value = 0.0001). Our results suggest that constipation, bloating, belching, and odynophagia did not significantly improve in none of the groups.\u0000\u0000\u0000\u0000This study showed that Habb-e-Mastaki is effective against GERD. Marine biomaterials obtained from fungi, algae, bacteria, and fish, are considered promising candidates for providing various biological as well as biomedical application(s). Objective: The main focused objective of this manuscript is to take out the recent trends utilized in several marine-based biomaterials developed for pharmaceutical applications. Method: The literature contains valuable and collective information on the different bioactivities of marine-based biomaterials. A total of 287 articles are cited in the present review covering a broad spectrum of marine biomaterials, and their pharmaceutical importance. Information of different marine biomaterials along with their source, chemical nature, and pharmaceutical importance are exhaustively compiled here. Results: Marine-based biomaterials possess a wide range of physiochemical activities and modifications in these properties can also enhance the therapeutic and regenerative capacity. Marine biomaterials have proven a good source for the development of different areas of the pharmaceutical field and still, the application of marine biomaterials is going through revitalization in the biomedical field.
