The fixed threshold method causes false alarms in the transient state of the system. To overcome the false alarms arising from the transient state the combination of the fixed and adaptive threshold (Tcomb) based PCA method is used. But the measurements noise results in very high Tcomb. This causes to produce the missing fault signal components. The problem can be solved by filtering the noisy measurement signals. The wavelet transform has been widely used in signal de-noising, due to its extraordinary time-frequency representation capability. In this paper, a new PCA method based on wavelet is proposed to overcome false alarms which occur in the transient states according to changing process conditions and the missing data problem. The proposed method is implemented and validated experimentally on an electromechanical system. Experimental results illustrate the much better fault detection performance of the proposed method in comparison with classical PCA monitoring and process controlling charts.","PeriodicalId":108357,"journal":{"name":"2013 8th International Conference on Electrical and Electronics Engineering (ELECO)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116489074","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This situation causes ripples, harmonics and faults on loads. Therefore, it is important to fix the voltage on the load busses. In wind energy systems, continuous change in wind speed results in varying load voltage. In order to discard this situation, there is a need for controlled power conditioning devices which will fix the voltage at desired levels. In this paper, a Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) which is designed to stabilize the voltage value of the load busses fed by Wind Turbine/Super capacitor (WT/SC) hybrid energy system. The improvement obtained with the proposed method is depicted by comparing the results with those of PI controller. This paper presents genetic algorithms (GAs) for optimal scheduling of LTC and switched shunt capacitors (SSCs) to improve the performance of smart grid with PEV charging at consumer premises in residential feeders and PEV charging stations (PEV-CSs) in distribution networks. The forecasted daily load curves associated with PEV-CSs and residential feeders populated with PEVs are first generated and then incorporated in the GA-based optimal LTC and SSC scheduling solution. With this achievement, the system is able to monitor and record the 3-axis vibrations with respect to an absolute time rather than the local sensor (and computer) time. Acquired 3-axis acceleration data and UTC are transferred via Bluetooth® protocol and developed software which enables monitoring and recording of UTC and acceleration data on a PC, respectively. For verification and synchronization quality test of acceleration data, shake-table tests were conducted for simulation of structural displacement and the calculated displacements were compared with a displacement sensor of a commercially available shake table system.","PeriodicalId":108357,"journal":{"name":"2013 8th International Conference on Electrical and Electronics Engineering (ELECO)","volume":"407 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116514427","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since these power plants are large, their impacts on the grid are strong as well. The steady state and transient analyses required for plant connection to the grid, mostly play a role in the selection of the equipment and determination of the protection settings. Installation and commissioning of power plants based on accurate analyses are of great importance in raising the reliability of the system. The number of generating units in a power plant can be increased for capacity expansion. The coupling breakers (bus tie breakers) are used in plant substations configured in double bus scheme. Each generator are connected to the grid through these buses having the coupling breaker in a closed/opened position. This study investigates the impact of these breakers in terms of short circuit faults by using a real data obtained from the natural gas power plant connected to the 154 kV grid through overhead transmission line. Fault currents are computed based on IEC 60909 and compared for different status of coupling breakers.","PeriodicalId":108357,"journal":{"name":"2013 8th International Conference on Electrical and Electronics Engineering (ELECO)","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132942521","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
