Its production is hindered by fungal and viral diseases. Control of these diseases requires a significant investment that represents up to 40% of the production costs. Marker-assisted gene pyramiding is a powerful breeding tool which allow the rapid constitution of breeding lines with broad spectrum of resistance against diseases. Nevertheless, the accuracy and rapidity of introgression of genes of interest are some of the most critical barriers to successful application. In this paper, we use a simple and rapid method that combines duplex PCR for two important virus resistance genes (i.e., Sw-5 and Tm-22) and uses the linkage between genes Tm-22 and Forl to speed the introgression of these resistance genes into a “Pomodoro di Sorrento” tomato line. The method was used through six generations of backcrossing followed by three generations of selfing and resulted in a homozygous resistant line.","PeriodicalId":10763,"journal":{"name":"Crop Breeding and Applied Biotechnology","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.5,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67262194","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aimed to investigate soybean genetic resistance to bacterial pustule in the flowering stage through association analysis, characterization of candidate SNP markers, and identification of protein-coding genes potentially regulating defense processes. Therefore, 109 soybean cultivars genotyped with a 6k Illumina platform were assessed for disease severity. A genome-wide analysis revealed a total of 13 SNPs significantly associated. Through protein annotation, we identified three markers located inside the coding regions of uncharacterized protein LOC100779077, histone-lysine Nmethyltransferase SUVR4, and ABC-transporter B family member-9. Nucleotide polymorphism on the first two of these markers produces a non-synonymous polymorphism with polarity shift from hydrophobic to polar amino acid. It is convenient to prioritize these three candidate markers for validation procedures with the purpose of using them in marker-assisted soybean breeding programs.","PeriodicalId":10763,"journal":{"name":"Crop Breeding and Applied Biotechnology","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.5,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67261562","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The grain can be consumed fresh or canned. over three generations for recombination and selection for yield, quality and agronomic traits. The last selection in With the recombined generations, the variety was tested in trials to evaluate yield, quality and agronomics traits, using the hybrids BRS Vivi, Tropical Plus and SWB 551 as checks. The evaluation trials were conducted in: Sete Lagoas/2015 (L1), Londrina/2015 (L2), Sete Lagoas/2016 (L3), Janaúba/2016 (L4), Londrina/2017 (L5), and Passo Fundo/2017 (L6) in a randomized block design with three replications and experimental plots with four 5-m rows, spaced 80 cm apart. In these trials, the following traits were evaluated: number of days to female flowering (FF), from seedling germination until 50% of the plants in the plot emit style-stigmas; plant height (PH, cm) and first ear height (EH, cm); prolificity (PR), based on the ratio of number of ears to number of plants per plot; grain yield at maturity (GY, t ha -1 ); unhusked ear yield of green corn (EY, tons/ha); ear length (LE, cm) and diameter (DE, mm) of unhusked ears at the green corn stage; number of grain rows per ear (NR); mean ear weight (EW, g); grain weight per ear (GW, g) at the green corn stage; and brix degrees (BR) computed as the mean of two samples of ground grains measured with a portable digital refractometer (Atago PALM-1).
