Also in military engineering, some protective structures are built from steel fibre reinforced concrete because of its suitable properties. In the past years non-destructive testing has come to the forefront of interest in the field of building diagnostics. A complete lack of approved methods and procedures dealing with the fibre reinforced concrete testing has led to many experiments with regular non-destructive methods with aim to assess their relevance to the testing of structural elements made from fibre reinforced concrete. The article describes an experiment where compression strengths, determined by a non-destructive method (hardness, ultrasound) and by a destructive method, are compared.","PeriodicalId":107301,"journal":{"name":"2019 International Conference on Military Technologies (ICMT)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115117961","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this research is to understand if and how COTS automotive sensing technologies could be utilised to increase MCC crew’s situational awareness. One current military area of operations is within diverse and complex urban environments, these operating environments can be described as Congested, Cluttered, Contested, Connected and Constrained (the 5C’s). Outside the military environment, over the past 10 years significant advances within the automotive sector regarding sensing technologies and autonomous systems have increased exponentially. Driven by enormous investment from the commercial / private automotive Tier 1 and 2 suppliers, with recent years seeing many government sponsored, technology accelerator programs. The results of this significant global investment have produced low cost, advanced, sensing technologies and sensing capabilities, which could potentially be exploited within military land platforms to increase situational awareness. The results of two discrete studies are presented within this paper, Study 1, provides an analysis of COTS automotive sensing technologies through a Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) analysis, with additional technical assessments to provide further indications of applicability to MCC. The conclusions and results of these analyses are then used to develop a selection of use cases for crews operating MCC. Study 2 presents a practical experiment designed to demonstrate the integration of Controller Area Network (CAN) COTS sensing technologies within Def Stan 23-009 Generic Vehicle Architecture (GVA) and STANAG 4754 NATO Generic Vehicle Architecture (NGVA). Finally, concluding remarks are provided highlighting the benefits and constraints for utilising COTS sensing technologies within GVA / NGVA compliant military land platforms with additional recommendations.","PeriodicalId":107301,"journal":{"name":"2019 International Conference on Military Technologies (ICMT)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123505167","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To fully utilize its properties, it is very important to pay attention to the technological process of its production. The principle of steel fibre reinforced concrete consists in uniform distribution of steel fibres in the given volume of the structural element. The possibilities of checking uniformity are still discussed and examined in the field of NDT (non-destructive testing). The paper describes a radiographic NDT method allowing to evaluate the uniformity of steel fibre distribution in situ. The experiment results are compared with the results of testing performed using the standard destructive testing method.","PeriodicalId":107301,"journal":{"name":"2019 International Conference on Military Technologies (ICMT)","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126428469","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With 26 conflicts worldwide in the past 100 years featuring airbase attacks, doctrine and planning tools must be updated to allow continued use of air bases within missile range of enemy forces. Research conducted for the United States Air Force identifies the areas of base resilience and how they affect mission capability. Several models have been developed based on these principles, but there are gaps in model capability and usefulness for allied partners. This paper presents the proposal of a novel base planning model capable of directly quantifying missile attack consequences and generating optimal site layout plans and protection strategies. This model would be implemented using multi-objective genetic algorithms to identify solutions that provide optimal tradeoffs between the competing objectives of minimizing attack consequences, minimizing site construction costs, and minimizing mission impact. These capabilities are expected to assist military engineers in their critical task of analyzing and selecting the design strategy that minimizes operational impacts to a base located in a contested region.","PeriodicalId":107301,"journal":{"name":"2019 International Conference on Military Technologies (ICMT)","volume":"238 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123153354","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
