For this purpose we apply FMOLS, DOLS, PMGE, MGE, DFE, and VECM methods to a nonstationary heterogeneous dynamic panel including annual data for 119 countries over the period 1970-2010, and also carry out multivariate Granger causality tests. The empirical results strongly support the existence of a single cointegrating relationship between employment growth, inflation and output growth with bidirectional causality between employment growth and inflation as well as output growth, giving support to Phillips’ Golden Triangle theory.","PeriodicalId":104767,"journal":{"name":"Strategy & Macroeconomic Policy eJournal","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115892318","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A Consideration Based on a DSGE Framework","authors":"Tokihito Sudo","doi":"10.2139/ssrn.1846183","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.2139/ssrn.1846183","url":null,"abstract":"This study describes the development of a new-Keynesian dynamic stochastic general equilibrium (DSGE) model in which market-based intermediaries or active investors have an interactive relationship with the ultimate borrowers and lenders. The study also seeks to assess the effects of the presence of active investors on the business cycle.The theoretical analysis yields two important propositions related to market-based intermediaries: first, the greater the active investor’s asset size, the higher will be the expected net profits; second, the steeper the yield curve, the greater is the asset size. These propositions together suggest that steeper yield curves will yield higher net profits to active investors. Using the developed model and the U.S. quarterly data for 1990:Q1-2010:Q3, this study performs empirical analyses and thereby empirically proves the above mentioned propositions in the model. Furthermore, the analyses indicate that the active investor sector is not only a source of the business cycle but also a fluctuation amplifier, that active investors might impede the propagation of monetary policy effects, and that although rigorous financial regulation could forestall asset price bubbles, it might not necessarily lead to economic stability.The results of the theoretical as well as empirical analyses indicate that the active investor sector has significant effects on the business cycle, thus supporting the view of Adrian, Moench and Shin [2010b].","PeriodicalId":104767,"journal":{"name":"Strategy & Macroeconomic Policy eJournal","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121320286","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This book proposes a new approach to law, not from the attorney’s perspective, but from the manager’s. This paper defines the currently existing digital distribution model that describes how consumers presently access digital content, both legitimately and illegitimately. This foundation is then used to identify a number of alternative new business models and existing models that have been adapted from the analogue age such as indirectly supported distribution and advertising supported distribution, and the operation of the network effect, that together rely on a model of efficient distribution. It is concluded that due to the ineffectiveness of stronger enforcement at impeding piracy, the adoption of new models to adapt to efficient distribution remains the most efficacious approach.","PeriodicalId":104767,"journal":{"name":"Strategy & Macroeconomic Policy eJournal","volume":"253 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-03-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123681061","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Examining the joint distribution of an index of firms’ CSR behavior and an indicator of whether or not firms lobby reveals that firms at both the positive and the negative extremes of social responsibility are more likely to have been politically active. Regressing the CSR index and a measure of lobbying intensity, individually, on Tobin’s Q allows me to test whether CSR and corporate political activity separately enhance firms’ value; regressing an interaction between the CSR index and the measure of lobbying intensity on Tobin’s Q, allows me to test whether they play complementary roles in enhancing firms’ value. Higher CSR ratings, more intensive lobbying, and the interaction between the CSR rating and lobbying intensity all appear to increase value when comparing firms; however, when each firm is studied over time, only the interaction between CSR rating and lobbying intensity appear to increase firm value. Taken together this suggests that firms’ CSR positions work as an economic complement to its political activity rather than a substitute – jointly the two types of non-market behavior increase a firm’s value, while independently each activity is more difficult to reconcile and perhaps may simply be symptomatic of some other inherently unobservable firm-fixed characteristic such as ‘good management’. Illustrative cases round-out the large dataset analysis.","PeriodicalId":104767,"journal":{"name":"Strategy & Macroeconomic Policy eJournal","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-01-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127939010","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As nominal interest rates approach their lower bound, further increases in expected deflation cannot cause the nominal rate to fall. Either the Fisher equation is violated or the real rate must increase. One way for the real rate to rise is for asset prices to fall. Regressions between 2003 and 2010 of the daily percentage change in the S&P 500 on the TIPS spread measuring inflation expectations show little correlation between asset prices and expected inflation from 2003 until early 2008. However, since early 2008 the correlation between changes in stock prices and in inflation expectations has been strongly positive and statistically significant.","PeriodicalId":104767,"journal":{"name":"Strategy & Macroeconomic Policy eJournal","volume":"94 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-01-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123055835","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

HRA forms a popular basis of compensating employees in India - both in public and private sectors. HRA attracts personal taxation from Income Tax point of view. This paper studies the impact of the short selling ban on the credit derivatives market by investigating credit default swap (CDS) prices during the period that the ban was in effect. The hypothesis is proposed that the short selling ban on 797 financial stocks led market participants to enter CDS contracts to reflect positions that the participants had formerly entered through short sales, thus driving up CDS rates. Analysis compares the CDS prices of firms protected by the ban to the CDS prices of similar firms in the S&P 500 not covered by the ban. Tests are also conducted using metrics from the bond and equities markets to determine if the results from the CDS market are unique to the CDS space. A linear regression technique is used to test the significance of the ban on CDS prices. The study results indicate that the CDS prices of firms covered by the short selling restrictions experienced significant dislocations during the period of the ban.","PeriodicalId":104767,"journal":{"name":"Strategy & Macroeconomic Policy eJournal","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121070388","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The resulting credit growth was very slight in US and UK but over 100% in China. The US and UK money multipliers collapsed because the required capital adequacy ratio (CAR) was binding for many of their banks. Specifically, the value of the money multiplier is zero when CAR is not met; is one when CAR is binding and when the asset purchased by the central bank requires the commercial bank to hold capital against it; and equals the reciprocal of the required reserve ratio when CAR is not binding. To improve China’s economic performance, we propose three new growth drivers to replace the present instruments of macro-stimulus: changes in rural economic institutions to create new entrepreneurs, an urbanization strategy based on the principle of future home ownership, and modernization of the financial system.","PeriodicalId":104767,"journal":{"name":"Strategy & Macroeconomic Policy eJournal","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114203035","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
