Malfunctions to these installations are causes for slow train traffic and may lead to railroad events. The diagnosis of these traffic security installations is a process that necessitates a detailed knowledge of the installation and a well-prepared maintenance staff. We propose in this work a new method to diagnose failures to these installations, using a computer or a mobile device (tablet and/or smart phone). The diagnosis charts presented in this work are the result of authors' know-how accumulated in many years of on-field practice. These charts have allowed the realization of a software package which assists the maintenance personnel, leading to shorter repair times and increasing the rail traffic security.","PeriodicalId":103513,"journal":{"name":"2015 9th International Symposium on Advanced Topics in Electrical Engineering (ATEE)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131154843","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to prevent grid instability, directives (codes) for connecting PV plants to the medium voltage power grid have been released. The supply and control of the reactive power from the renewable generation plants are becoming important issues to be studied, because they can facilitate the integration of PV in power grids. In this paper, two new models of a 6.09 MW PV plant, used to analyze its grid integration according to the grid code, are presented. The first is a simplified model, without taking into account transformers and cables, while the second one is a more complex model which includes these components. The model was developed using PSCAD-EMTDC software. The final part of the paper presents the active-reactive power (P-Q) charts, calculated at the common coupling point (CCP), for different levels of solar radiation (0% to 100%). Based on these charts, it is determined the maximum output power level which can be generated by the plant, according to the current grid code.","PeriodicalId":103513,"journal":{"name":"2015 9th International Symposium on Advanced Topics in Electrical Engineering (ATEE)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134118622","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We develop an exact mathematical model of the splitting phenomena (splitting equation) based on the algebraic equation theory, which allows finding exact values of the splitting frequencies. This is extremely useful to setup the magnetic coupling for any connection of the wireless power transfer systems. It is also investigated the variation of the splitting frequencies and the transferred power peaks in function of the magnetic coupling. The exact analysis of the frequency bifurcation phenomena is also studied and the relationship between frequency bifurcation and splitting is elucidated. It is also found an exact mathematical procedure, based on the algebraic equation theory, which allows finding exact values of the bifurcation coupling and the bifurcations frequencies. The theoretical results are validated by numerical simulations based on frequency analysis with different values of the system parameters and by a 10-W prototype with planar spiral coils [10].","PeriodicalId":103513,"journal":{"name":"2015 9th International Symposium on Advanced Topics in Electrical Engineering (ATEE)","volume":"22 4","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114032707","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The current and voltage distortion is analyzed as a function of the system configuration and line reactors compensation. Different solutions are given for compensation and one of them is modeled and simulated in MATLAB/Simulink software environment. The proposed compensation system is composed by line reactors for the voltage notches introduced by the thyristor commutation, and a dual inverter shunt active power filter for the distortion regime and reactive power compensation. The advantages over the single inverter configuration are discussed. The most important one is that the harmonic current to be injected can be divided between the inverters, halving the power rating and lowering the high di/dt response demand of the PWM inductances. The used solver is continuous for an accurate representation of the plant but the active filter controller is acting like a digital one, being composed of MATLAB coded functions and discretized Simulink blocks at a fixed sample time, making possible the implementation in a real time hardware setup like dSPACE.","PeriodicalId":103513,"journal":{"name":"2015 9th International Symposium on Advanced Topics in Electrical Engineering (ATEE)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132219291","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Educational platforms and virtual laboratories are increasingly becoming a key component during the teaching process especially for technical teaching. Although the existence of virtual laboratories and e-learning platforms can be very useful tools for electrical engineering in particular they will never replace real laboratories. The main reason is that using real educational platforms the students have the opportunity to become familiar with the basic principles and real elements of a particular area. Moreover, they can develop various complex applications and test their behavior. In the end, the main objective is that the present students - future engineers should be able to both operate real world systems and implement designed solutions that are likewise the teaching platforms. In this vein it is proposed a platform based on the programmable logic controllers (PLC) technology that has not been done so far. It is designed to be open enabling to add new modules and features. While the considered platform is based on a specific brand of PLC it can be very easily adapted without major technical issues to other brands.","PeriodicalId":103513,"journal":{"name":"2015 9th International Symposium on Advanced Topics in Electrical Engineering (ATEE)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133662453","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
