This model is developed using the standard simulation software LTspice to explore the effect of electrical and physical parameters on Current-Voltage (I-V) and Power-Voltage (P-V) characteristics of photovoltaic cell (PV). The proposed model is based on mathematical equations and is described through an equivalent circuit. The developed model serves to specify the optimal conditions for operating the PV cell and define the maximum power point (MPP). It also allows the prediction of PV cell behavior as a function of temperature and ambient radiation. To demonstrate the validity of the generated model, an experimental test was performed for a PV cell (of type“ASI” from SCHOTT Company). Experimental and technical data display a good agreement with the simulated findings.","PeriodicalId":103316,"journal":{"name":"MELECON 2014 - 2014 17th IEEE Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127869236","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A recognized problem in this domain is the assignment of trucks to doors in a way that the distance to be traveled between the doors is minimized. This problem is known as the Cross-Dock Door Assignment Problem (CDAP). A lot of research has been conducted regarding this topic still, up to our knowledge, none used Scatter Search (SS). In this paper, we implemented this evolutionary metaheuristic algorithm and tested it, then compared the results with those of another evolutionary algorithm, Genetic Algorithm (GA). The results indicate that the SS outperformed the GA.","PeriodicalId":103316,"journal":{"name":"MELECON 2014 - 2014 17th IEEE Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115581787","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We propose a master-slave configuration to interrelate the PTAT (proportional to absolute temperature) coefficient of the Logarithmic Amplifier with the PTAT current, which can be obtained from the Band-gap Voltage Reference. With this method, a Low-Temperature-Coefficient Logarithmic Amplifier is obtained without any external components. This approach has been verified via Cadence simulation in TSMC 0.13μm CMOS process. A RSSI with such a logarithmic amplifier consumes only 145μW under the supply of 1.2V. This method and the complete circuit are presented in detail with the associated results.","PeriodicalId":103316,"journal":{"name":"MELECON 2014 - 2014 17th IEEE Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126633684","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The process is highly time consuming and the quality of outcome is heavily dependent on the practitioner's experience in setting input parameters. To address this problem, in this paper we exploit a mathematical approach and develop a system model that ultimately helps to obtain a low complexity analytical solution. In addition to providing insights into system behaviour as function of azimuth angles, the potential performance gain of the proposed optimisation solution is investigated through extensive numerical results.","PeriodicalId":103316,"journal":{"name":"MELECON 2014 - 2014 17th IEEE Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference","volume":"84 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115081935","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We aim at improving the energy efficiency of multimedia applications for improved battery life while maintaining an acceptable level of user experience. In this paper, we first describe our work in the area of stochastic video compression using the HEVC encoder. We then show the results in energy savings in the encoding stage as a function of an imposed error in addition and subtraction operations. We also present the relationship between the increased bit error rate and the output size of the video. We explain the effect that this increase in file size has on the transmission energy as well as the overall number of instructions, and in particular, the memory read/write operations. We demonstrate the full energy analysis of the entire encoding process using the HEVC encoder and show the quantitative results in every stage.","PeriodicalId":103316,"journal":{"name":"MELECON 2014 - 2014 17th IEEE Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference","volume":"210 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122637227","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An improved LESE (local expected square error) formula is derived. For each block size, the LESE and LESEimproved are computed. The block size that gave the minimum LESE is chosen. For that block if LESE is less than LESEimproved then the zero-mean filter is used else the non-zero mean filter is used. However, these maintenance methodologies for inspection are somehow inefficient and expensive. Moreover, helicopter assisted inspection endangers the human life. Recently, unmanned aerial vehicles have been under development in several research centers all over the world due to its potential applications. In this paper, we present an unmanned aerial system based on the quadrotor helicopter for high voltage power line inspection. Our interest is to equip the quadrotor helicopter with the necessary payload in order to be able to carry out a qualitative inspection, therefore the hardware architecture of the aerial robotic system is presented.
