We present a public method for such tracking, with the end goal of studying the interactions among Web servers. The outcome of this study could lead to building partnerships among Web servers, and used for deciding on the particular services to be offered by cloud servers. For proof of concept, we implemented a prototype in Java, and used a message broker to provide interserver communication. Experimental results were used to build graphs that illustrated the referrals among the servers.","PeriodicalId":103316,"journal":{"name":"MELECON 2014 - 2014 17th IEEE Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131629124","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

People are becoming more acceptable of this new technology as it continues to gain momentum especially in the North American and European markets. The main reasons behind this trend are the growing concerns about the environment, energy dependency, and the unstable fuel prices. Traditional source-to-destination routing problems are designed for conventional fossil-fuel vehicles. These routing methods are based on Dijkstra or Dijkstra-like algorithms and they either optimize the traveled time or the traveled distance. These optimizers will most likely not yield an energy efficient route selection for an electric vehicle. Electric vehicles might regenerate energy causing negative edge costs that deem Dijkstra or Dijkstra-like algorithms not useful for this application (at least without some modifications). In this paper, we present examples of why traditional routing algorithms would not work for electric vehicles. A metaheuristic study of the energy-efficient routing problem is presented. Ant Colony Optimization and Particle Swarm Optimization are then used to solve the energy efficient routing problem for electric vehicles. The 2 metaheuristic methods are analyzed and studied; the results and performance of each are then compared and contrasted.","PeriodicalId":103316,"journal":{"name":"MELECON 2014 - 2014 17th IEEE Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125272567","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Semi-Global Matching (SGM) is a very efficient approach, which outperforms most local algorithms and can deliver real-time performance if properly implemented in hardware. In this paper we describe the design space exploration of the SGM algorithm for automotive applications. The paper also highlights the methodology that we used for the transformation of the high-level code from a reference software implementation, which was unsuitable as a starting point for high-level synthesis, to the hardware implementation. Stream-based processing of the SGM algorithm, despite its complex data dependencies, is achieved by focusing on the inner most loops of the algorithms. Changing the choices of the loop implementation and type of the targeted memory implementation yield different RTL code with a broad range of area vs performance trade-offs.","PeriodicalId":103316,"journal":{"name":"MELECON 2014 - 2014 17th IEEE Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126769735","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed design employs a Single Ended Primary Inductance Converter (SEPIC) at the DC-end of a single-phase bridge diode rectifier. In discontinuous conduction mode (DCM), the SEPIC converter is a good alternative to the conventional buck or boost converter, where a low input current harmonic content is achieved with proper inductor selection of the converter. Here, a 28V, 1kW converter design with variable mains frequency (360 to 800Hz) is presented. The system performance was examined through a Matlab/Simulink model during both transient and steady state conditions.","PeriodicalId":103316,"journal":{"name":"MELECON 2014 - 2014 17th IEEE Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference","volume":"85 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114513534","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, a new strategy for control of shunt active filter is proposed. Fuzzy logic based switching state selection Direct Power Control (DPC) is employed for this control scheme. In addition, the AC line voltage sensors with a virtual flux (VF) estimator are replaced. To retrieve the phase and the frequency information, we have integrated a phase locked loop (PLL) control method. The advantages of this strategy are the simple algorithm, good dynamic response and resistance to the majority of the line voltage disturbances. Indeed, the operation of a proposed control strategy is implemented and verified in Matlab/Simulink's simulation environment. The results show that the control algorithm of the active filter is effective for eliminating harmonic currents and improving reactive power injected from nonlinear loads, which allowed us to confirm the robustness of the proposed strategy.","PeriodicalId":103316,"journal":{"name":"MELECON 2014 - 2014 17th IEEE Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123703094","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This algorithm is able to resolve signals arriving from narrowband sources propagating plane waves close to the array endfire. The results of the fixed step size NLMS will result in a trade-off issue between convergence rate and steady-state MSE of NLMS algorithm. This issue is solved by changing the step size from constant to variable. The proposed VSSNLMS algorithm reduces the mean square error (MSE) and shows faster convergence rate when compared to the conventional NLMS. Moreover, the enhanced performance of the new VSSNLMS algorithm is validated from the output beam pattern which introduces deeper nulls to mitigate the effect of interfering signals.","PeriodicalId":103316,"journal":{"name":"MELECON 2014 - 2014 17th IEEE Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131041129","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A contention based approach exploiting the unused cellular spectrum, e.g. of 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE), is proposed. The proposed approach uses subsets of LTE resource blocks (RBs) as allocation units. It is based on channel aware reservation slotted Aloha over orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) using time/frequency slots, which leads to a reduction of collision probability, prevents collisions in the transmission phase, and allows detecting these collisions at the reservation phase. Simulation results show that a large number of smart meters can be successfully accommodated within a limited coverage area with the proposed approach, while transmitting their measurement data in real-time.","PeriodicalId":103316,"journal":{"name":"MELECON 2014 - 2014 17th IEEE Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference","volume":"77 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132414418","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
