The gearbox is driven by an induction motor and the output shaft of the gearbox is connected to a DC generator and a DC tacho-generator. The ripple current and voltage signals supplied by these generators are analyzed for a defect-free gearbox and a defective gearbox with two teeth missing in a particular gear. Multiresolution Fourier transform is applied to these signals in order to improve the signal to noise ratio as well to highlight a specific bandwidth of the signal containing all the gear mesh frequencies. It is found that application of MFT improves the dynamic range of the signal, and hence highlights the frequencies with negligible amplitude. The paper puts forward a novel algorithm to fuse mid-wave and long-wave infrared images and detect targets. Firstly, the source images are decomposed by wavelet transformation. In usual, targets in infrared images are man-made, and their fractal dimension is different comparing with natural background. In wavelet transformation domain high-frequency part, we calculate local fractal dimension and set up fusion rule to merge corresponding sub-images of two matching source images. In low-frequency, we extract local maximum gray level to fuse them. Then reconstruct image by wavelet inverse transformation and obtain fused result image. In fusion results, the contrast between targets and background has obvious changes. And targets can be detected using contrast thresholding. A critical issue in control of this converter is current commutation as no freewheel path is available for the load current. In this paper, FPGA implementation of a semi-soft four-step commutation technique based on output current direction in matrix converter is presented. The same program can be used for implementing a three-step commutation process. A universal and synchronous commutation scheme for all the IGBTs is devised so that commutation can smoothly take place as and when required within the minimum possible time depending on the switching times of the IGBT used. The proposed configuration consists of an isolation transformer based fork connection. It improves power quality at AC mains and it meets IEEE-519 standard requirements at varying loads. A set of power quality indices on input AC mains and on DC bus for load fed from 6-pulse and 12-pulse AC-DC converters is also given to compare their performance. Adjustable speed drives are invariably supplied from a voltage source inverter. Proper modelling of voltage source inverters is important in devising appropriate control algorithm. This paper develops complete model of a five-phase voltage source inverter based on space vector approach. Both ten-step operation and pulse width modulation modes are elaborated. The Fourier analysis of output phase-to-neutral voltage is performed for ten-step mode of operation. The output phase-to-neutral voltage is shown to be essentially identical to those obtainable with a three-phase voltage source inverter. The drive system consists of power circuit and control hardware. The former has insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) based voltage source inverter (VSI) and gate driver circuit, while the latter has voltage and current sensors and their interfacing circuits. The rotor speed estimation from the sensed position signals, SM speed controller, torque, flux, and sector estimator and optimum voltage vector selection table for gating pulse generation of VSI are implemented in assembly language of DSP-ADMC401. The simulation model of the PMSM drive system is developed in MATLAB environment with Simulink and PSB toolboxes to analyze the performance of the proposed drive system. A high frequency quasi resonant zero current switched DC drive with single switch operating in quasi resonant zero current switching mode is proposed. Armature ripples discontinuous conduction mode of operations is reduced. Increase in chopping frequency has the advantageous effects on both the amplitudes and the orders of load and line current harmonics. A zero current, soft switched DC drive has been designed analyzed fabricated.
