An <i>in-silico</i> analysis of The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) of various histone acetyl transferases (HATs) and histone deacetylases (HDACs) suggested that HATs do not differ between normal and tumor samples whereas HDAC2 and HDAC1 change maximally and marginally respectively between normal and tumor patients with no change being noted in HDAC6 expression. Hence, this investigation was carried out to validate the expression states of HDAC 1, 2 and 6 mRNAs in buccal mucosa and tongue SCC samples in an Indian cohort. Buccal mucosa and tongue squamous cell carcinoma tissues with intact histopathology were processed for RNA isolation followed by cDNA synthesis which was then subjected to q-PCR for HDACs. The average RNA yield of the tongue tissue sample was ∼2 µg/mg of tissue and the A<sub>260/280</sub> ratios were between 2.03 and 2.06. The average RNA yield of buccal mucosa tissue sample was ∼1 µg/mg of tissue and the A<sub>260/280</sub> ratio were between 2.00 and 2.08. However, there have been few studies for long-term follow up. The purpose of this study was to know the prognosis of CIN during a 10-year follow up. We retrospectively analyzed 528 patients who underwent coronary angiography in Jeonbuk National University Hospital (South Korea, Jeonju) between Jan 2005 to Dec 2006. We excluded the patients who required regular dialysis before study enrollment. We compared adverse events in the no CIN (group I, n=485, 61.9±11.4 years, male 64.1%) and CIN (group II, n=43, 65.7±11.1 years, male 62.8%). Baseline clinical characteristics and cardiovascular risk factors were not different between the two groups except the post-procedure creatinine level (1.04 mg/dL vs 1.84 mg/dL, p=0.0001). The higher rates of all-cause death were observed in group II at 1-year (3.7% vs 13.9%, log-rank, p=0.001), 5-years (17.9% vs 34.9%, log-rank, p=0.003), and 10-years (25.3% vs 48.8%, log-rank, p=0.000). MACE was higher in group II at 1-year (3.9% vs 11.6%, log-rank, p=0.013), 5-years (6.8% vs 20.9%, log-rank, p=0.000) and 10-years (13.4% vs 27.9%, log-rank, p=0.000). In addition, CIN was an independent predictor for 10-year MACE (adjusted HR 3.432, 95% CI 1.314-8.965, p=0.012) after propensity score matching. The worse prognosis of CIN was continuously observed after the 10-year follow-up. Therefore, it has emphasized the importance of screening for general population to detect AF earlier. We conducted screening for AF in the Chonbuk region in South Korea. Participants who were older than 50 years were enrolled. The screening test used a single lead electrocardiography (ECG) (KardiaBand, AliveCor, CA, USA). Diagnosis of AF was confirmed by electrophysiologists, if the single lead ECG demonstrated AF of more than 30 seconds. We analyzed the prevalence of AF and the characteristics of newly detected AF patients. A total of 2728 participants, 145 (5.3%) participants had already been diagnosed with AF before. The number of screening positive was 55. Among them, 40 participants were confirmed for AF. Male gender and age older than 70 years were the independent risk factors for AF among the screening positive participants. Most of newly detected AF patients were at high risk for stroke which had more than 2 points on the CHA2DS2-VASc score. We followed up with those patients and encouraged them to visit the hospital. As a result, 31 (77.5%) patients started to manage AF. The additional 1.2% of AF was detected by a screening test with a single lead ECG monitor device. Considering most participants of newly detected AF by screening were at high risk for stroke, it was thought that AF was still undertreated. Therefore, screening tests with simple mobile device might be useful for early detection of AF.</p>","PeriodicalId":10307,"journal":{"name":"Chonnam Medical Journal","volume":"57 3","pages":"191-196"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://ftp.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pub/pmc/oa_pdf/c9/49/cmj-57-191.PMC8485083.pdf","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"39496770","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This mental health survey included a total of 1,490 general citizens living in a metropolitan South Korean city who completed a questionnaire that assessed respondents' histories of childhood trauma before the age of 12 years, including bullying victimization, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, and physical abuse, as well as suicidal behavior, including current suicidal ideation and histories of suicide planning and attempts. The following psychiatric scales were administered: Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (R-SES), Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC), Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), and visual analogue scale of EuroQol 5D (EQ-5D). Participants who experienced any childhood trauma had significantly higher HADS and PSS scores, and significantly lower EQ-5D scores. Additionally, participants with any type of childhood trauma were significantly more likely to have current suicidal ideation and histories of planned and attempted suicide. Multivariate analyses adjusted for confounding variables indicated that bullying victimization and sexual abuse were associated significantly with all types of suicidal behavior. Physical abuse was associated significantly with histories of suicide planning and attempts. The present findings showed that any type of childhood trauma was associated with higher levels of suicidality, anxiety, depression, and perceived stress, as well as lower health-related quality of life, in the general population. However, some studies have reported a worsening of clinical outcomes and therefore, this study used a porcine model of AMI to evaluate the efficacy of bisoprolol on VAs and mortality. Twenty pigs were divided into two groups with one group using oral bisoprolol which was given for 3 hours before the experiment and then maintained for 7 days. A loop recorder was implanted, AMI was induced by balloon occlusion for 60 min, and then, reperfusion. One week later, the echocardiography and loop recorder data were analyzed in the surviving animals. Bisoprolol did not increase the heart rate (62.9±14.5 vs 79.0±20.3; p=0.048), lower the rate of premature ventricular contractions (PVC) (0.8±0.8 vs 11.0±12.8; p=0.021) or tend to lower recurrent VA (0.6±0.5 vs 1.1±1.1; p=0.131) during coronary artery occlusion. After reperfusion, bisoprolol did reduce VA in the early AMI period (0.1±0.3 vs 4.2±4.6; p=0.001) and it was not associated with the extent of myocardial recovery. In this porcine model, early oral bisoprolol might help reduce the incidences of PVC and recurrent VA and determine whether effects are more pronounced during the early AMI period.
