However, this rather ambiguous candidacy title does not specify how this solution should be fulfilled, i.e. what steps must still be taken and which objectives must be implemented to provide truly scalable semantic computing platforms. The purpose of this conceptual roadmap is to address the scalability challenges within specific areas of semantic computing, to provide achievable solutions based on ongoing research and development, and to present a coordinated overview of what must take place in the next five years in order to achieve worldwide scalability.","PeriodicalId":102805,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE International Conference on Semantic Computing","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-08-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131669549","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since the late 90 s we have been building knowledge resources to support these tasks. Over the years, we have gathered valuable experience by running various applications and by discussing with our scientists from different areas. Based on this experience, we are currently enhancing the content of our terminologies as well as the conceptual structures to represent cross-references. In the biomedical domain, there are long standing efforts to formally conceive knowledge repositories. With the era of the Semantic Web, a limited number of frameworks have achieved acceptance in the community aiming at semantic interoperability. Inspired by the knowledge engineering approaches in biomedicine, we propose a unified conceptual model for knowledge representation and its implementation. Contrary to the widespread frameworks, our model excels in its modularity. In addition, our formal approach is designed to be compatible to the main biomedical frameworks so that content can be exchanged in both directions.","PeriodicalId":102805,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE International Conference on Semantic Computing","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-08-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115075726","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The coordination of semantic clients or services is necessary to achieve goals only possible from the combination of knowledge based activities. Triple space computing is a new coordination paradigm based on semantics and tuplespaces which could be used for the coordination of semantic Web clients and services. Triple space computing substitutes synchronous message exchange for persistent publication of knowledge in virtual data stores called tuplespaces. A tuplespace based architecture can handle the scalability, heterogeneity and dynamism which arises in highly distributed environments. In this paper, we describe the important architectural decisions in our implementation of a semantic tuplespace based middleware. We report on our practical experiences, and the benefits and challenges of triple space computing as a new paradigm for semantic Web and Web service communication.","PeriodicalId":102805,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE International Conference on Semantic Computing","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-08-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132718116","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Context often resides in the warfighterpsilas \"conversation,\" or in manual hand gestures in the battlefield. The primary tactical method for capturing this information resides in text chat and voice communications. There is a primary reliance on text chat (due to its persistence) in hostile tactical environments with little to inform its practice or its improvement. We focus on three areas to improve the ability to communicate SA context by (1) developing a computational approach to acquiring chat SA themes from unstructured text; (2) exploiting the use of icons, images, and symbols in developing an SA language; and (3) prototyping a new technology of inscription with the development of data-generating gloves.","PeriodicalId":102805,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE International Conference on Semantic Computing","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-08-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134467311","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The primitive concepts are identified by the orthonormal axis of a \"conceptual\" space induced by a methodology inspired tothe latent semantic analysis approach. The methodology represents a natural language sentence by means of a set of rotations of an orthonormal basis in the \"conceptual\"space. The rotations, triggered by the sequence of words composing the sentence and realized by means of geometric algebra rotors, allow to highlight \"conceptual\" relations that can arise among the primitive concepts.","PeriodicalId":102805,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE International Conference on Semantic Computing","volume":"312 5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-08-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114292977","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on the concept description language for natural language (CDL.nl) which is intended to describe the concept structure of text using a set of pre-defined semantic relations, we develop a parser to add a new layer of semantic annotation of natural language sentences as an extension of SRL. The parsing task is a relation extraction process with two steps: relation detection and relation classification. We advance a hybrid approach using different methods for two steps: first, based on dependency analysis, a rule-based method is presented to detect all entity pairs between each pair for which there exists a relationship; secondly, we use a feature-based method to assign a CDL.nl relation to each detected entity pair using support vector machine. We report the preliminary experimental results carried out on our manual dataset annotated with CDL.nl relations.","PeriodicalId":102805,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE International Conference on Semantic Computing","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-08-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132050836","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to \"command and control\" (C2), this large body of dispersed personnel, DoD uses a variety of electronic methods for managing and updating its forces. This paper provides a broad overview of the major collaboration and chat systems prevalent in the DoD C2 sector (as opposed to other DoD communities of interest). Variables unique to distributed computing environments impact a user's success at effectively using collaboration tools in dispersed operations. Workforce globalization-our evolution towards a fully-netted force-where distributed personnel have the ability to execute their collaborative missions, supported by the right information in a timely manner, drives research, development, test and evaluation activities within the SSCSD laboratory. This has givenus unique insight into determining effective Web3.0 strategies.","PeriodicalId":102805,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE International Conference on Semantic Computing","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-08-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115600936","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Text mining and clustering techniques are used to capture the content of communication and to identify the most popular themes. The social analyst is then able to perform a study of the network evolution in terms of the relevant themes of collaboration, the detection of new concepts gaining popularity, and the existence of popular themes that could benefit from better cooperation.The methodology is experimented in the domain of a network of excellence on enterprise interoperability, INTEROP.","PeriodicalId":102805,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE International Conference on Semantic Computing","volume":"99 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-08-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132031254","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
