To further enrich the course content, the design included a look-back at 1970s design decisions affecting search engines and a look-forward from challenges in today’s information landscape, such as algorithmic bias, filter bubbles, and market-driven results ranking. The study is evaluating the new course by analyzing peer-to-peer discourse in online discussion forums, using template analysis methodology. This paper reports on the analytical processes being used, preliminary results, and next steps.","PeriodicalId":102465,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Annual Conference of CAIS / Actes du congrès annuel de l'ACSI","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133167141","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main objective is to increase knowledge about such an important function for archival practice in the National Archives of these countries. The work covers the theoretical basis used to conduct the appraisal, the main legislation and the instruments used. Finally, the main goal, regardless of the country, is that the practice of appraisal optimizes financial resources and time, reduces the risk of undue destruction of documents and promotes accountability, transparency, and social representation.","PeriodicalId":102465,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Annual Conference of CAIS / Actes du congrès annuel de l'ACSI","volume":"82 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124406199","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study uses a mixed method approach, including semi-structured interviews (n=60) and surveys (n=205) with Bangladeshi immigrants who arrived in Canada between 1971 and 2017. The author discusses the new concept of information crafting by exploring the information immigrants received from immigration consultants in Bangladesh and the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). The study reports negative consequences of selective information in newcomers’ settlement in Canada, primarily positive information about life in Canada, sometimes with exaggeration and falsifications.","PeriodicalId":102465,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Annual Conference of CAIS / Actes du congrès annuel de l'ACSI","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129473840","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Getting the whole story requires having access to these narratives, which can be a challenge when the coverage of historical research in widely used databases is incomplete or biased. This paper investigates to what extent journals indexed in two historical research databases, namely Historical Abstracts and America: History and Life, are covered by the Web of Science and Scopus, as well as the national and linguistic biases in that coverage. Results show a much higher coverage of historical research in Web of Science than Scopus. However, both databases disproportionately favour indexing English language journals and journals published in the United States and the United Kingdom. That raises questions about how these imbalances in journal coverage may lead to biases in the narratives to which readers are exposed when they limit their sources to those included in large, multidisciplinary databases.","PeriodicalId":102465,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Annual Conference of CAIS / Actes du congrès annuel de l'ACSI","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130674366","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Should they focus on nuanced evaluations of specific claims by politicians, or shift to debunking misinformation more generally? An analysis of fact-checking reports at the Washington Post around the 2016 and 2020 elections suggests little change in practice, in contrast to the 2014 Ukrainian initiative Stop Fake which attempted to debunk fake reporting.","PeriodicalId":102465,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Annual Conference of CAIS / Actes du congrès annuel de l'ACSI","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125338848","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
