Its widespread adoption derives from the possibility of having a good scalability without the need for the deployment of expensive infrastructures such as Content Delivery Networks (CDNs). We think real-time streaming of lessons could open new interesting opportunities in e-learning systems by encouraging interactivity between teachers and learners. Delay requirements are very strict in interactive e-learning scenarios, where playback lag between the event in the real world and the received audio/video should not exceed a few seconds. Only a very short delay would allow students to ask questions during the lesson. At the same time, playback continuity is a key aspect too, since holes in the stream reproduction could seriously compromise the understanding of lectures. In this paper we compared some solutions that try to overcome the limitations of traditional mesh-based P2P systems, which are usually affected by long and unpredictable delays. We finally tried to outline which of the analyzed solutions appears the most suitable one to meet e-learning requirements.","PeriodicalId":102315,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference on Education Technologies and Computers (ICETC)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125052136","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Instructors and learners of higher education, for example, sometimes face unfortunately drastic changes where their educational tools can not work correctly nor suitably although they were exactly working at the previous environments. This paper describes one of such an environmental change and how to recover performance of relevant tools from \"before\" to \"after\". One of keywords is Java programming language. And we have designed and implemented our tool with Java programming language not only as Applet but also as Stand-alone application. When we face an environmental change, we have struggled to adjust our tool for newly changed situation with possibly efficient modification. Although our results are not so good for several requests, they can bring us some kind of satisfaction to utilize our tools on the newly changed environment and provide tolerable effects on education using such tools in university lectures. Our employed approach did not assume environmental change, but its flexibility has been not only lucky but also suitable enough to override such a change and to keep its performance.","PeriodicalId":102315,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference on Education Technologies and Computers (ICETC)","volume":"172 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131858618","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Previous studies have found varying degree of associations between attitudes, behavioral intention and perceptions and corroborate the fact that attitudes influence patterns of behavior. As computer technology is becoming pervasive in the society, researchers have attempted to explore the links between individual's perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness and their intention to use the computer technology. A study was conducted in two higher education institution in the United Arab Emirates to find out students' intention to use computer technology employing the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) by Reference [1] as a theoretical framework and Structural Equation Modeling as an analytical tool. The results revealed strong relationships between the students' attitudes toward computer and intention to use. This paper further reports the applicability of technology acceptance model and its robustness and generalizability in different research contexts.","PeriodicalId":102315,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference on Education Technologies and Computers (ICETC)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114157907","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This type of alienation may lead to the worsening of the disabled subjects' health conditions and an impoverishment of their human relations, which in turn might cause identity crises and a tendency to greater dependence on others, culminating in loss of inclination and ability to learn new skills. Since 2013, the SCINTILLA project of the Liguria Region (Italy) has set out to study how information and communication technology can be used to support work inclusion processes for subjects with congenital or acquired physical disabilities which make it difficult for them to move around (hence the common definition \"homebound\"). This paper will deal with one of the key aspects of the project, i.e. how to educate the educators whose task is to train and accompany young homebound subjects with serious physical disabilities in the process of work inclusion. The specific aim of the paper is to describe the assessment model adopted by SCINTILLA for the training programme, which is inspired by Kirkpatrick's four-level evaluation model. It will thus describe (a) the training programme conceived for educators called upon to train homebound subjects for insertion into companies with the \"smart work\" approach; and (b) the model worked out for evaluation of the above training programme, a sort of transversal model comprising formal, nonformal and informal learning dimensions.","PeriodicalId":102315,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference on Education Technologies and Computers (ICETC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129648583","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Education is a continuous process not restricted to age, area, discipline, and interest. The aim is to support creative activities via tested methods and good cases from practice. Information technology and education have many common features from areas of development, implementation, or work with users (students). Unfortunately, there are also errors. In this paper, the method design is described using a combination of a project education method and SCRUM agile method for IT implementation. The benefit is close cooperation within a team (students, teachers), transparent work procedures, and support the invention of better solutions to defined tasks.","PeriodicalId":102315,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference on Education Technologies and Computers (ICETC)","volume":"96 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122437536","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, research into the use of speech recognition systems for improvement accents is scarcely available. In this paper, we focus on development of an speech recognition system for recognizing African English accents and enabling the speakers improve their English accents. This is achieved by using a dual speech recognition engine: the first, a multiple accent recogniser receives African English speech input, classifies it and sends to the second recogniser that evaluates the speech against standard English pronunciations. Speech deviations from standard English pronunciations are captured and read by the system as a way of supporting the learner to improve his/her reading proficiency. Preliminary tests indicate that terminologies that are rarely used in ordinary conversations (e.g. enthusiasm, exuberant, vague, etc) are most poorly pronounced irrespective of the educational level of the reader.","PeriodicalId":102315,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference on Education Technologies and Computers (ICETC)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121185899","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper proposes the sequential pattern mining method specialized for analysis of learning histories of programing learning. This paper initially describes a data processing method which investigates learning transitions as sequences based on the analyses of learners' source codes and compile errors generated in their exercises. Next, this paper describes an analysis support tool. This tool assists collection of learning histories, generation of sequence based on analysis of the histories, extraction of the noteworthy patterns based on SPADE algorithm and acquisition of findings from the extracted patterns. This tool enables to effectively analyze the relationships between learning processes in programming exercises and learning situations. Such analysis can contribute to practical grasping of learning situations in accordance with learning process and acquisition of advanced findings based on it.","PeriodicalId":102315,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference on Education Technologies and Computers (ICETC)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128965136","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Edutainment is a kind of education which integrates entertainment for educational purposes and uses video games for education. It is a hybrid learning system that depends basically on narrative, visual materials or game-like formats, with less didactic address styles and on a more informal way. Game based learning or edutainment, just like other technology-based education methods, is being used in western or developed countries. Saudi Arabia is considered a developing country just like other Arab countries; hence, computer education has recently appeared in Saudi Arabian education. Therefore, studying this new development in the Saudi educational systems will effect significantly on the speed of developing the educational systems in Saudi Arabia. However, no edutainment games have been designed for this new curriculum. Therefore this research ultimately aims to design a new edutainment game to be used for the computer technology curriculum. To design an efficient edutainment game system, edutainment game effectiveness and the attitudes of students will be measured to know their technology acceptance level for the new edutainment tool and curriculum. The study is carried out using Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), based on four factors; usability, usefulness, ease of use and effectiveness.","PeriodicalId":102315,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference on Education Technologies and Computers (ICETC)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122842366","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we discuss the development and use of methods for automatic extraction of formal properties of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents saved in the Office Open XML (OOXML) format for educational purposes. We briefly describe the structural ideas underlying the OOXML format and show examples of how certain document features are represented. Building on this, we describe the tool we developed for automatic evaluation of students' productions in the context of entrance examinations at our institution. The exam tests the participants' word-processing and spreadsheet abilities. We report the results of a case study comparing manual and automatic evaluation. We discuss the benefits (speed, cost, accuracy) and limitations (for situations where we lack precise formal conditions to test) of our approach.","PeriodicalId":102315,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference on Education Technologies and Computers (ICETC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130789623","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
