Data from the Dutch National Prevalence Measurement of Care Problems (Dutch: Landelijke Prevalentiemeting Zorgproblemen, LPZ) provide annual, standardized information on the prevalence of common care problems in long-term care. This article describes trends in six care problems in Dutch nursing homes from 2017 to 2024: pressure ulcers, incontinence, falls, malnutrition, restraint use, and pain.Methods: LPZ data from 60,926 residents (2017-2024, excluding 2020) were descriptively analyzed. Prevalence rates were reported per problem per year.Results: Between 2017-2024, the prevalence of pain increased from 34.2% to 42.7%, while restraint use decreased (from 30.3% to 17.1%). For other care problems, trends were less pronounced: malnutrition remained stable (16.3% to 16.2%), incontinence decreased (urinary: 23.3% to 20.5%; fecal: 17.4% to 16.9%; double: 12.7% to 9.8%), while falls (12.6% to 13.1%) and pressure ulcers (2.9% to 4.5%) slightly increased.Conclusion: LPZ prevalence data for 2017-2024 reveal diverse trends in six common care problems, including reduced restraint use and increased pain. Nevertheless, previous research from Flanders shows that older adults without children are not lonelier compared to older adults with children (Stegen et al., 2025). As this runs counter to a widely held intuitive assumption, the present study seeks to gain a better understanding of why adults aged 60 and over without children do not experience higher levels of loneliness than their counterparts with children. Which themes in their life narratives provide insight into how they experience, or do not experience, feelings of loneliness? We conducted life story interviews with twelve older adults without children. Because we specifically asked about it during the interviews, loneliness is the leading theme of this study. Yet loneliness is related to four other themes that emerged: being able to make space for other things, feeling socially excluded, acceptance, and meaning through other children. Linked to these themes, the participants experienced a duality of feelings: more negative feelings and wordings (e.g. \"missing out\" or \"not belonging\"), therefore alternated with positive experiences and opportunities (e.g. \"relief\" or \"freedom\"). Older people without children are a very heterogeneous group, with a lot of different views on their life without children and its impact on well-being. Singing bowl sessions are used to promote calm and comfort, yet residents' own perspectives remain underrepresented. This exploratory qualitative study examined how residents in a Dutch nursing home (two locations) experienced individual singing bowl sessions. Participatory observations were analysed inductively across 41 sessions involving 25 residents (59-97 years) with dementia and somatic conditions from 7 wards (3 psychogeriatric, 3 somatic and 1 rehabilitation). The sessions elicited predominantly positive responses, including those from residents with limited verbal communication. Four themes captured these experiences: emotional resonance, relaxation, connectedness and positive affect. Two recurring behaviours were observed: falling asleep and entering an inner state of calm. Attention span and environmental stimuli sometimes influenced these experiences. The findings suggest that singing bowl sessions align with residents' available capacities and can evoke meaningful experiences across emotional, spiritual and social dimensions of quality of life. This study shows that residents, even when communication is limited, are able to remain actively engaged in the experience in their own way. To reduce the pressure on elderly care and to guarantee the quality of care for older people, new solutions for support are needed. Peer-advice for ageing in place could contribute to this. The aim of this study is to explore the perspectives of older people on peer-advice to support ageing in place. Two complementary research methods were used: a questionnaire of 263 older people and five focus groups with 35 older people in total. Descriptive and thematic analyses resulted in three main themes: 1) opportunities and barriers of receiving and giving peer-advice, 2) role of peer-advice, and 3) characteristics of a peer-advisor. The results show that receiving and giving peer-advice can be valuable for older people. This study shows that peer-advice offers a valuable opportunity for supporting older people with ageing in place. The aim of this study is to evaluate the usability of activity trackers for orthopaedic patients in geriatric rehabilitation.Method: In a practice-based study from two healthcare organizations, patients (n=36) and therapists (n=12) evaluated three different activity trackers (Hipper, Yamax and Pedometer). For this evaluation, the System Usability Scale (SUS) and open questions were used.Results: In general, the use of activity trackers was seen as useful, because it can encourage movement and provide insight into the rehabilitation progress. Patients and therapists rated the usability of the three activity trackers as moderate to good. Important aspects for this rating were the capabilities/limitations of the pecific population (such as dexterity and possession of a smartphone for Pedometer), the SUS scores (moderate-poor for Yamax) and the registration/measurement accuracy (Yamax inaccurate when shuffling; reading display can be difficult with the Hipper).Conclusion: The usability of activity trackers varied among these orthopaedic patients. In April 2022, GR was introduced at nursing home Betèsda, despite the lack of appropriate funding. This retrospective cohort study aims to gain insight into patient characteristics and outcomes of this new form of care on Curaçao. The cohort includes all patients admitted for a first episode of rehabilitation between April 2022 and December 2023. It comprises 105 patients with a median age of 73 years, of whom 49.5% were female and 30.5% had an indication for chronic nursing home care. At admission, the majority of the study population functioned at a very low level; 80% was unable to transfer independently, and 48.6% had no walking function. The median length of stay was 43.0 days. Significant improvements were observed in activities of daily living, trunk balance, transfers and walking function. Of the rehabilitants without a nursing home care indication at admission, 78.7% were discharged home. Of those with a nursing home care indication, 31.3% were discharged home and 28.1% remained permanently in the nursing home.
