The most frequent mechanism is the fall from height (high energy), also conditioning an important soft tissue involvement. Surgical treatment by open reduction through an extended lateral approach and internal fixation with a lateral plate is still considered the “gold standard”. However, in many cases, this procedure requires an initial delay in surgical treatment to allow improvement of the skin condition and carries a high risk of skin and surgical incision complications. In recent years, techniques using less invasive approaches have become more popular. The aim of our study was to compare the incidence of complications in fractures treated by lateral approach and plate fixation vs . percutaneous reduction and synthesis with screws. A case series report Introduction and objectives: Morton's neuroma is a fibrous enlargement of the interdigital nerve branches, usually in the third interspace. The treatment can be conservative (infiltrative of corticosteroid and anesthetic injections) and operative. We propose the collagen ultrasound guided infiltration as a possible treatment in cases with poor response to other pharmacological, non-pharmacological and invasive treatments. Material and methods: a retrospective review of a 5-patient case series with more than one-year clinical and physical signs of Morton's neuroma and bad response to conventional treatment. An ultrasound-guided (US) injections were performed by a radiology specialist, in the intermetatarsal space with collagen with prior lidocaine anesthesia. Background: in unstable ankle fractures, the syndesmosis and the deltoid ligament have been widely studied, and their importance in physiopathology and treatment is recognized. This is not the case for the lateral complex ligaments; in particular, their role in the vertical stability of the fibula is unknown. Given their anatomical position, they should prevent the proximal translation of the distal fragment of the fibular fracture. Objective: to quantify the superior translation of the fibula by applying a constant proximal traction force as the syndesmosis and lateral ankle ligaments are sequentially sectioned. Method: we used 11 fresh frozen cadaveric lower extremity specimens with a mid-leg section and an average age of 70 years (range: 50-70 years), including 6 women and 5 men. Skin and muscles were removed to the ankle level with the interosseous membrane (IOM) preservation, and a deep dissection was performed to identify the inferior tibiofibular ligaments and lateral ankle ligaments. Sinus tarsi approach Most calcaneal fractures (75%) present a joint component with a high prevalence in young people and high-energy trauma. Classically, the extended L-shaped approach has been used for its surgical management with good functional results but high rates of associated soft tissue complications.
