Abstract
Treatment of Morton's neuroma with collagen infiltration. A case series report Introduction and objectives: Morton's neuroma is a fibrous enlargement of the interdigital nerve branches, usually in the third interspace. The treatment can be conservative (infiltrative of corticosteroid and anesthetic injections) and operative. We propose the collagen ultrasound guided infiltration as a possible treatment in cases with poor response to other pharmacological, non-pharmacological and invasive treatments. Material and methods: a retrospective review of a 5-patient case series with more than one-year clinical and physical signs of Morton's neuroma and bad response to conventional treatment. An ultrasound-guided (US) injections were performed by a radiology specialist, in the intermetatarsal space with collagen with prior lidocaine anesthesia. The evolution of pain was assessed before and after the treatment with the Visual Analog Scale (VAS scale that ranges from 0 to 10).
