Complementados con información cualitativa provenientes de entrevistas, los datos muestran que esta cultura no sólo constituye un terreno dinámico y en permanente disputa en el que fuerzas contrarias se confrontan para consolidar el arraigo comunitario o alentar las decisiones migratorias, sino que conforma un ámbito altamente sensible a la edad y sexo de los jóvenes, a su escolaridad, a las redes sociales de las que participan, el propio referente familiar, así como a diversas fuentes de información que influyen para afianzar distintas representaciones de los destinos migratorios.</p></div><div><p>Based on a representative survey given in 2011 to 1243 primary, secondary, and high school students in the state of Yucatán, Mexico, this paper presents results that provide a profile of the complexity and multiplicity of factors involved in forming what is generally understood as “the culture of migration.” Supplemented with qualitative information from interviews, the data show that this culture is not only a dynamic field and constantly debated by opposing forces who are confronted to consolidate community roots or promote migration decisions, but also that this culture is highly dependent on the age and sex of youth, their education, social networks in which they participate, as well as on diverse sources of information that influence the establishment of diverse representations of migratory destinations.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":101005,"journal":{"name":"Península","volume":"11 2","pages":"Pages 9-33"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1016/j.pnsla.2016.08.001","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90391103","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A través de una reflexión sobre estudios en torno a las remesas, se abordará el tema de la casa habitación como uno de los principales destinos del dinero que los emigrantes envían a sus comunidades. Analizando los conceptos de casa, propiedad y espacio doméstico entre los mayas yucatecos de la época colonial y contemporáneos —sin pretender sugerir la existencia de una unidad étnica a nivel diacrónico y regional— se evidenciará la importancia de la perspectiva local para entender las razones que llevan a los emigrantes de Yucatán a invertir su dinero en la construcción de nuevos espacios domésticos en sus comunidades de origen.</p></div><div><p>In this article we highlight the importance of considering local perspectives on space perception and experimentation in the context of academic research on migration. Reflecting on some studies that were conducted on remittances, we will present the issue of houses and domestic spaces in the context of remittances sent by migrants to their home communities from the United States. We finally emphasize the importance of considering the local perspective to understand the reasons why yucatec migration to the United States results in the construction of new domestic spaces in migrants’ home countries through an analysis of some academic studies on the concepts of home, property and domestic space among Yucatec Maya in the colonial period and nowadays. Sin embargo, esta problemática debería abordarse de modo relacional. Si solo trabajamos con una de las partes implicadas, habitualmente las mujeres, dejamos fuera al actor principal del conflicto: el varón. Por eso, en el presente artículo, nos proponemos desarrollar los aspectos más relevantes que constituyen a las masculinidades hegemónicas y a las “nuevas masculinidades”, tanto desde un abordaje teórico como empírico, a partir de autores claves y entrevistas realizadas a varones durante 2015. El objetivo es involucrar no solo a las mujeres sino también a los varones en labores de problematización de su propia posición de privilegio y de prevención de la violencia de género, de manera que contribuyan a la socialización de las nuevas generaciones en valores democráticos de ejercicio del poder y en relaciones igualitarias.</p></div><div><p>Research and interventions aimed at preventing gender violence and promoting equality, have seen, actions and measures that are designed to predominantly target women. However, gender issues should be addressed in a relational mode. If you only work with one of the involved parties, usually women, we are leaving out the main actor in the conflict: the man. Therefore, in this article, we intend to develop the most relevant aspects that constitute hegemonic masculinities and the “new masculinities”, both from a theoretical and empirical approach, from key authors and interviews with men in 2015. Las publicaciones aún son dispersas, toda vez que la gran mayoría son escritos cortos que se han presentado en distintos foros de corte académico sin amplia difusión; algunos más son artículos integrados a libros con temas muy generales, lo que ha dificultado su localización. Sin embargo, muchos de ellos han podido recuperarse a través de una búsqueda exhaustiva y puntual, cuyos resultados referiré de manera sistematizada en este espacio. La lectura y análisis de los materiales recopilados me ha permitido detectar y esbozar algunas líneas de investigación en las que clasificaré las distintas obras.</p></div><div><p>In the last two decades research on islam in Latin America has proliferated, but in a very general way. Publications are disperse and tend to be short essays presented in academic forums without a broad public; others are articles that have been integrated into books with general themes, making them difficult to locate. However, through a timely and exhaustive search I have been able to identify many of these works, which i will present in this article.
