Introduction

Mindfulness is the ability to voluntarily focus on the present moment without judgment. Several systematic reviews and meta-analyses have demonstrated the effectiveness of mindfulness-based interventions among individuals with obesity, mainly on the reduction of binge episodes and related factors such as impulsive and emotional eating. It is the result of interactions of multiple factors, making its treatment difficult. In addition, psychoaffective suffering is often associated with it. They may as well be the consequence as the cause of weight gain and its maintenance (Fernandez et al., 2015). Overweight and bodily dissatisfaction cause anxiety for many patients, and even emotional distress (Croiset and Sordes-Ader, 2014). Bariatric surgery is one of the solutions used in the medical care of obesity (Schaaf et al., 2015). It tends to normalize the quality of life in the first month (Fernandez et al., 2015; Piche et al., 2005). However, such an operation is not enough to maintain weight loss in the long term. Relationships between therapeutic programs based on mindfulness learning and questions related to weight management are increasingly studied and show that this learning promotes weight loss in overweight people (Dalen et al., 2010; Kristeller et al., 2014). Such learning would also enhance the benefits of bariatric surgery (Katterman et al., 2014).

Aim

To our knowledge, the relationship between mindfulness-trait and the effects of bariatric surgery has not been studied to date. Several hypotheses have been evoked to explain this phenomenon as an orientation process deficit in social attention (Dawson et al., 1998), an atypical visual exploration of the face with gaze avoidance (Klin et al., 2002) or a deficit in central coherence with an analytical, rather holistic, treatment of the faces (Frith and Happé, 1994). Although several training programs have been created to remedy this difficulty, few of them have been validated with an ASD population with intellectual disabilities and, to our knowledge, there is no evidence in the literature of the existence of a specific program for ASD adults with intellectual disabilities. This condition has consequences in personal life, such as social withdrawal, and in societal life, such as absenteeism and an increased number of medical consultations. In addition, the evolution of GAD tends to be chronic without adequate treatment. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) successfully treats generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). More than 50% of individuals with GAD experience a complete remission or significant clinical change after CBT. However, a significant number of people still present GAD symptoms following CBT. Combining interventions from different theoretical GAD models could improve CBT efficacy. In this regard, theoretical links have been suggested between intolerance of uncertainty (IU ; Dugas et al., 1998) and emotion dysregulation (EDr ; Mennin et al., 2005) models (Ouellet, 2014; Riskind, 2005). The IU model posits that GAD development and maintenance is explained by a vulnerability to uncertainty. This vulnerability influences beliefs and attitudes towards worry as well as generates cognitive avoidance. The EDr model explains GAD by difficulties with emotion regulation.
