Based on a sample of 30 Lebanese small firms (18 male-owned and 12 female owned firms), which operate in the different Lebanese regions we tried to demonstrate that gender has an impact on financial performance. A descriptive methodology was followed, information was collected through a self administered questionnaire and the data was analyzed through SPSS. Our findings showed strong evidence that female-owned small firms differ from male-owned small firms according to their gross revenues. In general, they generate lower gross revenues than do the counterparts. However, no significant differences were found between female and male owners in terms of their incomes. Moreover, we found that the difference in gross revenues can be explained by factors related to the owner's level of education, the owner's business experience (although it disappeared from the regression model), the firm's age and the firm's size.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":100721,"journal":{"name":"International Strategic Management Review","volume":"1 1","pages":"Pages 1-10"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1016/j.ism.2013.08.001","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79651612","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Organizations nowadays are recognizing that their decisions hand actions have an impact on nature. Our study focused on the non-for profit organizations, notably the higher education institutions in Lebanon. The research suggested the understanding of the concept of social responsibility in the Middle East is still in its early stages. A lack of governmental support is a challenge faced by many organizations. However, the higher education sector is raising awareness and shaping the future managers with the appropriate “green” and socially responsible education to lead the corporate sector. The findings illustrate that engagement in CSR can lead to many benefits such as increased profits, strong brand image and a sustained solid reputation. Moreover, investing in CSR initiatives enables the organization to occupy a strong competitive advantage. The role educational institutions is indispensable in shaping future managers who will be guiding the world's organization with integrity, ethics and a concern for the society and the environment. Finally, the notion of being socially responsible should go beyond being an obligation to be a necessity of their day to day lives. This study represent an added value to the educational sector and show the importance of supporting this ongoing trend which will have a great effect on the lives and future of the upcoming generations. Finally, it would also be more interesting to include in a future study the Middle Eastern region where they share similar cultural background such as language, religion and geography.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":100721,"journal":{"name":"International Strategic Management Review","volume":"1 1","pages":"Pages 59-64"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1016/j.ism.2013.09.001","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91138582","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to authenticate our hypotheses, we collected primary data by using a quantitative method. In fact, we performed an inquiry by surveying 75 Lebanese companies through a questionnaire formed by closed and semi-open questions and modulators. While finishing the empirical study, we concluded that family involvement in ownership and management has a positive relationship with the financial performance of the Lebanese company. Moreover, issues like entrenchment and asymmetric altruism did not prove to have a significant relationship with the financial performance. The essential reason to the results previously stated is that family managers in Lebanon act as stewards by considering the success of the company as their own, rather than agents seeking to achieve their personal benefit on the expense of the company.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":100721,"journal":{"name":"International Strategic Management Review","volume":"1 1","pages":"Pages 30-41"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1016/j.ism.2013.08.003","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85508709","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
