In addition, voices raised by social organizations on various social and environmental issues in developing countries have forced organizations to focus on sustainable manufacturing practices. This research mainly focuses on socially sustainable supplier selection through social parameters by using the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) in decision making. This methodology demonstrates the development of social sustainability indicators, including equity, health, safety, wages, education, philanthropy, child and bonded labour which are validated by experts. The study also describes how the above mentioned metrics may be used to prioritize alternatives for decision making using AHP. The study further demonstrates practical applications of social sustainability dimensions in selecting suppliers for manufacturers operating in emerging economies. Three case studies illustrating this methodology have also been included. The case studies further analyse the results of the methodology along with the tradeoffs supply chain managers make. Findings show that manufacturers of electrical, automotive and cement industries were able to select suppliers based on the social sustainability score. This study helps supply chain managers integrate various social dimensions into the supply chain function. The results of the study draw the attention of all stakeholders towards social dimensions by necessitating the importance of social conditions upon suppliers.

","PeriodicalId":100721,"journal":{"name":"International Strategic Management Review","volume":"2 2","pages":"Pages 98-112"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1016/j.ism.2014.10.003","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78549946","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our study investigates the relationships between the different components of the university image and to what extent they may affect the students’ satisfaction. Hypotheses were drawn setting the relationships between the affective, cognitive and overall image in relation with satisfaction. The results of the empirical work carried out on a representative sample of 763 students located in 8 countries in the Middle East demonstrate that the cognitive component of image is an antecedent of the affective component. In turn, both of these components influence the formation of the overall image of a university. However the affective and overall images statistically and significantly affect the overall satisfaction of students with their university. Using data for 39 countries during 1996-2009, the construction of composite indicators shows that Latin American & Caribbean countries present a less developed governance and financial system than European & North American countries. Non-parametric correlations tests show that these dimensions are significantly and positively correlated. The financial system development requires good governance. PCA suggests that governance improvement would lead to equal income distribution. Regarding theory testing and development, we test six theories propounded in management-related literature. Further, based on limitations of the existing theories we develop new theory-Farmers Fox Theory-and offer lawful propositions for future research that would advance the current international business and institutional knowledge. With regard to this, CSR includes the companies’ responsibilities towards shareholders, customers, employees, environment and community. Despite numerous efforts to measure the consequences of corporate social responsibility (CSR), it remains unclear how stakeholders perceive CSR activities. This study aims at developing a measurement scale for corporate social responsibility activities in the Indian banking industry based on a stakeholder framework. A multistage method is applied to develop a valid and reliable scale. Items for the scale were generated from a qualitative research and literature review. The reliability and validity of the scale was confirmed through a first and second order confirmatory factor analysis. It recalls the implementation effects of information and communication technologies ICT under the gaze of collective intelligence. Accordingly, the approach was tested through the observation and interpretation of interactions between a tool of collective intelligence, namely an online-system of indicators, and a network of agricultural cooperatives of a regional federation in southern France. The teachings of this research overstep traditional and theoretical approaches in terms of acceptance and appropriation. Consequently, the actor-network approach has been mobilized - It has revealed that the use of the translation process has led to the occurrence of interactions that go beyond previously intended objectives. Surprisingly, the tool appears as a collective intelligence support in the sense of revealing four facets: inductor (of projects) tool, a symbol (of new networks of exchange) tool, a reference (informational) tool, and lastly a pretext (or a support) tool of the network's concretization. Hence, this paper shows that the use of ICT could promote organizational intelligence in the measure of allowing a refocus on the human but also on perfect subjective information.

","PeriodicalId":100721,"journal":{"name":"International Strategic Management Review","volume":"2 1","pages":"Pages 46-55"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1016/j.ism.2013.11.001","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78165941","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Four characteristics of the audit committee are being examined; size, composition, frequency of meeting and financial expertise. The sample includes 54 ebanese banks with fiscal years-end between 2009 and 2011. The financially distressed and non-distressed banks have been identified from bank profitability. Our Results show that the financial distress of banks has a significant negative relation with the meeting frequency of the audit committee. Hence, the evidence suggests that the meeting frequency of audit committee members is an important factor as it helps the audit committee to hinder the financial distress of the bank. Meeting frequency plays an important role to ensure audit committee effectiveness. In other words, the audit committee with frequent meetings is able to help audit committee members to ensure the integrity of financial reporting, to provide better monitoring and to review effectively the operations. The establishment decision of audit committee was adopted in 2008 and was modified in 2010 in Lebanese banks. Then, this study examines an actuality subject. Consequently, this paper represented an added value to the corporate governance in Lebanese banks and shows the importance of the audit committee impact on financial performance. Future studies concentrate on the impact of managerial dominance over the board (board composition, CEO duality and management ownership) on the independence of audit committee which may have an influence on bank performance.

","PeriodicalId":100721,"journal":{"name":"International Strategic Management Review","volume":"2 1","pages":"Pages 39-45"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1016/j.ism.2014.09.001","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91316762","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
