The intentional and inclusive design of higher education spaces is crucial for enhancing learning, collaboration, and creativity. This second article in the series will focus on how chairs can cultivate intentional and inclusive learning environments. By reevaluating existing spaces and implementing innovative design strategies, institutions can create environments that support diverse learning needs and foster a culture of innovation. Institutional practices appear to vary widely, and the Education Department's Office for Civil Rights has offered little recent guidance beyond repeatedly insisting on the importance of adherence to the process — leaving each institution to assess through the interactive process whether and under what circumstances Section 504 might require attendance flexibility.
