Conventional therapies often affect healthy tissues, leading to significant side effects. To overcome these challenges, researchers are exploring new methodologies that combine advanced drug delivery systems with state-of-the-art imaging technologies to target tumors more effectively. This study aims to investigate a novel approach that integrates smart drug delivery systems with real-time imaging modalities. The goal is to enhance the targeted delivery of therapeutic agents to cancer cells, minimizing damage to healthy tissues while improving the overall efficacy of cancer treatments. Smart drug delivery systems are designed to transport medications directly to tumor sites, enhancing treatment precision. When combined with real-time imaging tools such as MRI, CT, PET, and molecular imaging, these systems offer real-time data on the tumor's location, size, and response to treatment. This allows for immediate adjustments in therapy, ensuring optimal drug delivery and reducing side effects. However, the implementation of this approach also faces challenges, including the need for stringent safety protocols and adherence to regulatory standards. The integration of advanced drug delivery systems with cutting-edge imaging technologies presents a promising approach to cancer therapy. By enabling more precise treatment targeting and reducing adverse effects, this strategy has the potential to significantly improve patient outcomes in the fight against cancer.
","PeriodicalId":94352,"journal":{"name":"Recent advances in drug delivery and formulation","volume":" ","pages":"194-220"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"142934347","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is characterized by pain, stiffness, tenderness, and swelling in joints, which may even lead to heart, lungs, or brain-related problems where age is the major factor involved, as around 55% older adults have been affected by it. Treatments including non-steroidal anti- inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs) etc., that are modified and formulated as nanocarriers for enhanced bioavailability, majorly aim at enhancing the rate and extent of drug reaching the bloodstream such as solid-lipid nanoparticles, liposomes, polymeric- micelles, polymeric nanoparticles etc. are used in the management of rheumatoid arthritis.

Methods: The following tools (Pubmed, Scopus, Google search engine, Google Scholar, Medline Search Engine, Elsevier) were used in the literature search.

Results: Through the literature review, the development of nanocarrier shows a promising approach in the management of rheumatoid arthritis as compared to the conventional drug treatment such as biologic agents and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs etc. Conclusion: Rheumatoid Arthritis is a condition that occurs when the immune system, which normally helps to protect the body from infection and disease, attacks its own tissues. Carriers may manifest progressive muscle weakness, resulting from the progressive degeneration of skeletal muscles, generating cardiac and respiratory disorders. Considering the lack of effective treatments, different therapeutic approaches have been developed, such as protein synthesis and extracellular matrix derivatives that can be used to improve muscle regeneration, maintenance, or repair. At the same time, the use of other anti-inflammatory drugs or biological agents to replace corticosteroids conjugated to these extracellular matrix derivatives may act more effectively in controlling the progression of Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Extracellular matrix-derived peptides (e.g. laminin-111 derivatives) and the use of essential oils with antiinflammatory activity in polymeric particles for application in the treatment of Duchenne muscular dystrophy are discussed. For this purpose, the literature of patents and scientific articles from 2012- 2024 on LM-111 peptides and Duchenne muscular dystrophy was reviewed. Many patents focus on palliative technologies that seek to prolong the progressive effects of the disease, considering the control of the inflammatory process. This review delves into the current and future prospects of dendrimers in facilitating brain-specific drug delivery within the framework of cerebroanoreach. The unique structural features of dendrimers allow for precise regulation of surface function, size, and shape, which are critical for targeting specific cell types in the brain and increasing blood-brain barrier permeability. Second, they can be conjugated with imaging agents, peptides, or pharmaceuticals thanks to their versatile surface chemistry, which enhances diagnostic capabilities and treatment efficacy. Recent advances in nanoformulations based on dendrimers have demonstrated promising improvements in the solubility, stability, and bioavailability of medications, suggesting their possible use in therapeutic contexts. Various obstacles, such as toxicity profiles and production bottlenecks that require scaling up are also addressed, with a focus on ongoing research projects and potential remedies. One potential solution to the problems with cerebroanoreach is the use of dendrimers for brain-specific drug delivery; this could revolutionize the treatment of neurological diseases and the precision of neurology diagnostics. By synthesizing current knowledge and future directions, this review urges the continuance of interdisciplinary collaboration, which is crucial for fully realizing the potential of dendrimers in neuroscience and therapeutic innovation.
","PeriodicalId":94352,"journal":{"name":"Recent advances in drug delivery and formulation","volume":"19 1","pages":"16-24"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"144268286","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
