A cross-sectional ecological study was conducted using data on feminicides from 2016 to 2020, consolidated by the Minas Gerais Prosecutor's Office. Feminicide and female homicide rates per 100,000 females were estimated according to the health microregions. Public data from the Brazilian Mortality Information System were used for the estimation of female homicide rates. An analysis was conducted on microregions with high feminicide rates correlated with neighboring microregions with high and low female homicide rates, using Bivariate Moran's Local Indice. A multivariate scan model was also applied to multiple data sets, in order to simultaneously identify clusters of feminicide and female homicide that coincided in time and space. A total of 698 feminicides were identified during the period, distributed across 19 health microregions. During the period, female homicide rates were higher than those of feminicide. Stability in the risk of feminicide and a decreasing trend in the risk of female homicides were observed across the health microregions of Minas Gerais. In 11 microregions, the number of feminicides exceeded the number of female homicides. The results highlighted weaknesses in the determination of the underlying cause of death for females, affecting the quality of homicide records.</p>","PeriodicalId":9398,"journal":{"name":"Cadernos de saude publica","volume":"41 1","pages":"e00015224"},"PeriodicalIF":1.9,"publicationDate":"2025-02-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC11863630/pdf/","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143499231","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many social determinants have been identified, but understanding food insecurity remains limited due to a fragmented view that segregates vulnerability dimensions. This study aims to analyze food (in)security based on an intersectional perspective, having two favelas in Belo Horizonte (Minas Gerais State, Brazil) and their surroundings as its studied site. This cross-sectional analysis was carried out with data from the household survey of the BH-Viva Project. Food insecurity was chosen as the outcome variable and the intersectional construction of social vulnerability indicators (sex, race/skin color, and the Socioeconomic Vulnerability Index Sensitive to Food Insecurity - IVSIA, constructed from the domains of work and income, education and housing conditions) was used as the exposure variables. The associations between food insecurity and the exposure variables were estimated by logistic regression models and the effect of the intersectionality categories on food insecurity was obtained by the appropriate interaction terms. Among people in unfavorable socioeconomic conditions (IVSIA), black women were more likely to have food insecurity (OR = 7.50; 95%CI: 3.20-17.58) than black men or white women. Results shows that food insecurity includes intersectional processes of vulnerability that overlap the effects of socioeconomic deprivation, sexism, patriarchy, and racism, thus reinforcing the need for intersectional research to find the patterns and main victims of food insecurity and the urgency of public policies toward these groups' needs.</p>","PeriodicalId":9398,"journal":{"name":"Cadernos de saude publica","volume":"41 1","pages":"e00095724"},"PeriodicalIF":1.9,"publicationDate":"2025-02-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC11863631/pdf/","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143499260","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In 1982, the 5,914 live births in maternity hospitals in Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil, were examined and the mothers were interviewed. Since then, these participants have been prospectively followed. The cohort members were interviewed at 30 years old and information on blood pressure, carotid intima-media thickness, pulse wave velocity, random blood glucose, and blood lipids were obtained. Simple and multiple linear regressions were used. In the crude and adjusted analyses, duration of breastfeeding did not show any clear association with mean arterial pressure, carotid intima-media thickness, and pulse wave velocity. Likewise, total and non-HDL cholesterol and blood glucose were not related to infant feeding. Regarding HDL cholesterol, it was positively related to predominant breastfeeding duration in the crude analysis, but the association disappeared after controlling for confounding variables. Concisely, our findings suggest that there is no association between duration of breastfeeding and cardiometabolic risk factors in adulthood. Despite that, promotion and support of breastfeeding must be reinforced due to its well-known benefits, such as reduction of infant and child mortality and human capital development.</p>","PeriodicalId":9398,"journal":{"name":"Cadernos de saude publica","volume":"41 1","pages":"e00044224"},"PeriodicalIF":1.9,"publicationDate":"2025-02-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC11863628/pdf/","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143499263","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Intergenerational educational mobility was assessed by comparing maternal schooling with that of participants. The Satisfaction with Life Scale (satisfied versus dissatisfied) was used to assess satisfaction with life. The prevalence of dissatisfaction with life was higher in black (13.5%) and mixed-race people (12.4%) than in white ones (9.2%). After adjusting for age, sex, marital status, and research center, upward educational mobility was associated with 32% odds (OR = 0.68; 95%CI: 0.53-0.86) of lower levels of dissatisfaction with life when compared to the stable-low trajectory, but this association only occurred for white people. The stable-high trajectory was associated with 31% (OR = 0.69; 95%CI: 0.56-0.86) and 29% (OR = 0.71; 95%CI: 0.54-0.95) odds of lower rates of dissatisfaction with life in white and mixed-race people, respectively. Black individuals showed no association between social mobility and life satisfaction. Consistent with these findings, upward and stable-high educational trajectories were associated with higher per capita family income in white people and lower income in black individuals. Results reinforce that structural racism reduces the benefits of educational mobility regarding life satisfaction and income in black and mixed-race people when compared to the benefits for white people.</p>","PeriodicalId":9398,"journal":{"name":"Cadernos de saude publica","volume":"41 1","pages":"e00092924"},"PeriodicalIF":1.9,"publicationDate":"2025-02-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC11863632/pdf/","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143499227","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A descriptive ecological study was conducted using available data from the SIH/SUS, the Brazilian Information System on Live Births (SINASC), and the Brazilian National Registry of Health Establishments (CNES) from 2012 to 2020. Hospital admissions of women aged 10 to 49 for vaginal childbirth or cesarean section in the SIH/SUS were compared to live birth records from hospital deliveries in SUS-contracted establishments with more than 100 live births per year in SINASC. Coverage was measured by the proportion of admissions for childbirth (SIH/SUS) in relation to the total number of live births in SINASC. Supervised classification models, decision trees, and random forests were used to identify hospital characteristics predictive of coverage.
