Despite its well-established psychometric properties, few studies have evaluated its measurement invariance between territories, which is essential to ensure the validity of regional comparisons. This study investigated EBIA invariance regarding urban/rural areas, macro-regions, and Brazilian states based on data from the 2013 Brazilian National Household Sample Survey (PNAD, acronym in Portuguese). It analyzed the eight general/adult EBIA items by alignment in three independent partitions of the sample (116,543 households). The results indicated that the EBIA showed invariance between urban and rural areas and partial invariance between regions and between states. These findings reinforce the validity of the EBIA to monitor and compare food insecurity across Brazil.</p>","PeriodicalId":9398,"journal":{"name":"Cadernos de saude publica","volume":"42 ","pages":"e00115125"},"PeriodicalIF":2.1,"publicationDate":"2026-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC13411253/pdf/","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"148618418","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Qualitative research based on the constructivist branch of grounded theory was carried out in primary health and specialized care with in-depth interviews with 45 participants, including healthcare providers, managers, and people living with HIV/AIDS, from 2020 to 2021. Data analysis obtained the core category \"Unveiling local professional practices aimed at global commitments to confront the HIV/AIDS epidemic\", supported by seven subcategories that evince the expansion of timely rapid testing with reception and counseling, guarantee of access, early diagnosis and immediate start of antiretroviral therapy, engagement with the therapeutic regimen and its contradictions, social stigmatization, fear and overcoming HIV/AIDS, and the limitations of information systems. Practices related to preventive and clinical aspects stood out, with nurses playing a leading role in them. Coping with the social stigmatization by people living with HIV/AIDS experience still features an incipient approach in several dimensions: themselves, their families, healthcare providers, and social life. Overcoming the HIV/AIDS epidemic requires articulated and equitable strategies that consider the social determinants of health, expand access, and promote the well-being of people living with HIV/AIDS.</p>","PeriodicalId":9398,"journal":{"name":"Cadernos de saude publica","volume":"42 ","pages":"e00156225"},"PeriodicalIF":2.1,"publicationDate":"2026-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC13411252/pdf/","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"148618408","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In Brazil, Rio Grande do Sul State has the highest hepatitis C detection rate, underscoring the need for coordinated strategies to eliminate it by 2030. Underdiagnosis and barriers to treatment initiation persist despite the availability of highly effective antiviral therapies. This study aimed to estimate the proportion of diagnosed individuals who initiated treatment and to find factors associated with non-initiation of treatment. A retrospective cohort included all hepatitis C cases that had been diagnosed in 2022-2023 and reported in the Brazilian Information System for Notifiable Diseases (SINAN). Treatment initiation was verified in the Logistics Control System for Medications for Viral Hepatitis (SICLOM-HV). Probabilistic record linkage was performed to integrate both databases and to assess factors associated with non-initiation of treatment. Among 2,671 diagnosed individuals, 64.9% started treatment, with a median of 104 days between diagnosis and initiation. Multivariable analysis showed lower initiation among Black individuals than in White ones (adjusted OR = 1.41; 95%CI: 1.02-1.93) and among those aged 0-39 than in those aged 50-59 years (adjusted OR = 0.68; 95%CI: 0.49-0.96). Regional differences, HIV coinfection, and clinical variables also affected initiation. Treatment coverage in Rio Grande do Sul State remains below elimination targets. A mixed-methods, sequential explanatory study was carried out with 122 healthcare providers from 91 Family Health Units in Cuiabá, Mato Grosso State, Brazil, from 2023 to 2024. Its quantitative stage applied the following instruments: Healthcare for Dementia: A View of Primary Care and Attitude Questionnaire. In total, two focus groups with 11 participants were carried out the qualitative stage of this research. Analysis of the results integrated quantitative and qualitative to find convergences and interpretative divergences. Results showed participants' insufficient knowledge and technical preparedness regarding dementia due to lack of specific training, suggesting a structural and social stigma. Participants showed stigmatizing misconceptions regarding the condition and people living with it and professional insecurity and uncertainty in care actions, which negatively contribute to patients' timely diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up. The dissonance between attitudes and practices indicated manifestations of implicit stigma. Structural, social, and implicit stigma in primary healthcare providers compromise timely diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of patients and family members, perpetuating practices centered on dementia and care neglect. Although it has been validated for postpartum depression screening in Brazil, no study has yet validated its use for prenatal depression screening. Therefore, this study aimed to validate the EPDS for assessing maternal prenatal depression symptoms in Brazil. The study tested the unidimensional structure of the EPDS using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and evaluated its reliability using composite reliability (CR). EPDS parameters were also analyzed using Samejima's graded response model within an item response theory (IRT) framework. The results showed that the EPDS presented a unidimensional latent structure, with adequate construct validity (CFI = 0.974; TLI = 0.967; RMSEA = 0.072; 90%CI: 0.059-0.082) and reliability (CR = 0.91) for screening prenatal depression symptoms in Brazil. Additionally, the items showed satisfactory difficulty and discrimination parameters in IRT analyses. The total EPDS score provides more information than measurement error across a broad range of the latent trait (-2 to 4), indicating good accuracy and reliability. Overall, the EPDS seems to be an appropriate tool for screening maternal prenatal depression symptoms in Brazil.</p>","PeriodicalId":9398,"journal":{"name":"Cadernos de saude publica","volume":"42 ","pages":"e00090525"},"PeriodicalIF":2.1,"publicationDate":"2026-07-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC13384364/pdf/","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"148547969","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study analyzed the distribution of urban vegetation (estimated by the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index - NDVI), land surface temperature (LST), and nitrogen dioxide concentrations (NO2) in the Metropolitan Area of São Paulo, Brazil, according to vulnerability groups defined by the São Paulo Social Vulnerability Index (IPVS). Urban census tracts were used as the unit of analysis in this ecological study. The NDVI and LST were obtained by remote sensing and NO2 were derived from a high-resolution global model based on land use regression. Statistical summaries compared the indicators between the IPVS groups (1 - very low to 6 - very high vulnerability). NDVI medians scarcely varied (0.21-0.25) and showed no linear pattern; the high vulnerability group had higher values (possibly due to their peri-urban location). The group with very low vulnerability showed the lowest LST median (31.8ºC). NO2 concentrations showed a downward trend between the less and highly vulnerable groups, with a further increase in the latter. The Metropolitan Area of São Paulo shows heterogeneous environmental exposure without a linear pattern regarding social vulnerability. Metropolitan areas were initially the port of entry, but the disease spread to less populated municipalities, challenging the focus of monitoring and control in large cities. This study presents a descriptive analysis of the spread of CHIKV in Brazil up to 2022, examining regional differences. Data on chikungunya cases in municipalities were obtained from the Brazilian Information System for Notifiable Diseases (SINAN) from 2014-2022. Population size data were obtained from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). The chikungunya introduction dates in the states were organized into timelines and maps. A decentralization index was proposed to estimate the ratio between the incidence in non-metropolitan and metropolitan municipalities. Our analysis revealed that the spread of chikungunya from metropolitan to non-metropolitan areas varied among states. As expected, most states initially showed higher metropolitan incidence rates, with a few exceptions, such as Amapá, located at the national border with French Guiana. The Northeast remained the epicenter during the study period, but significant regional differences in disease patterns were observed across Brazil. Several factors, including environmental suitability and demographic changes such as internal migration, may have facilitated the differential spread of chikungunya to less densely populated regions. In conclusion, the index proved useful for monitoring the dynamics of disease spread, highlighting areas that require specific surveillance and control measures extending beyond large urban centers.</p>","PeriodicalId":9398,"journal":{"name":"Cadernos de saude publica","volume":"42 ","pages":"e00129025"},"PeriodicalIF":2.1,"publicationDate":"2026-07-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC13335780/pdf/","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"148403332","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this context, this study aimed to conduct a scoping review in order to identify studies on food access, acquisition, and availability in Brazil, with a specific focus on gender and race/skin color. The study also aimed to identify recommendations for policymakers in designing public policies to improve food access in Brazil, while considering the existing inequalities across these dimensions. The search was conducted in four databases without date restrictions. The search strategy was constructed by combining the descriptors \"access\", \"acquisition\", and \"availability\" of food with social markers such as \"gender\" and \"race/skin color\", using Boolean operators. All stages of study selection and data extraction were conducted by two independent researchers. The findings reveal structural inequalities in food access, with more pronounced barriers for Black women. A concentration of food deserts and swamps was observed in areas with greater social and racial vulnerability. This qualitative study, using Laurence Bardin's content analysis, was conducted with eight managers in 2023 in Uberlândia, Minas Gerais State, Brazil. We used a semi-structured script with questions about how managers organized women workers' activities before they took their maternity leaves and after their return to work and questions about managers' points of view about breastfeeding and maternity leave. Answers were analyzed using NVivo. We established three big topics from the content of the interviews, namely: (1) managers' point of view regarding the duration of maternity leave and breastfeeding; (2) rights, incentives, and work conditions; and (3) the organization of the work environment during maternity leave. We verified compliance with the 4-month maternity leave provided for in the Brazilian Consolidation of Labor Laws, highlighting the disagreement of leave duration and the health recommendation for exclusive breastfeeding of up to six months.
