Chewing areca nut, commonly termed as betel nut, is popular in Asia and the South Pacific, but it has been associated with several health issues, such as oral cancer. All over the world, it has been used as a masticatory drug, most commonly in South-East Asia, the south pacific, and the tropical and sub-tropical regions. Areca nut active substance arecoline is widely and commonly used addictive drug globally, after caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol. Areca nut used in pregnancy has been associated with several birth defects and infants mortality. A systematic review of studies is carried out to investigate prenatal betel nut use and adverse perinatal outcomes. The review suggested that consumption of Areca nut hurts fetus and maternal health. There was a significant association between low birthweight and betel nut exposure in pregnancy. It is recommended that all pregnant women receive enough information and counseling on the potential negative health effects of betel nut products during their prenatal, antenatal, and postnatal periods.","PeriodicalId":93707,"journal":{"name":"Journal of disease and global health","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44314080","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They exhibit a diversity of cutaneous manifestations and could cause disseminated infections. Herein, we report a Thai female with an underlying disease of systemic lupus erythematous, end stage renal disease and hypertension who was on immunosuppressive therapy and diagnosed with disseminated M. haemophilum and C. neoformans coinfection. She presented with multiple indurated plaques on her back, oedematous plaques on both legs and feet with nodules and ulcers on her right leg. She was diagnosed by skin biopsy, acid-fast staining, real-time polymerase chain reaction, tissue culture and haemoculture. A combination of rifampicin, macrolide, fluoroquinolone, amikacin and co-trimoxazole were used to cure M. haemophilum infection. Cryptococcosis was treated with amphotericin B and flucytosine for 5 weeks, then followed by fluconazole. We aim to report a unique dermatological manifestation, microbiology, histopathology, and treatment of the disease. Successful diagnosis and multiple antimicrobials agents are key managements for Mycobacterium haemophilum infection and Cryptococcosis.","PeriodicalId":93707,"journal":{"name":"Journal of disease and global health","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49217667","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The pregnant women were sampled randomly and interviewed with a structured questionnaire. SPSS version 16.0 was used for data analysis. \u0000Results: Greater proportion (51.3%) used herbal medicine for malaria treatment during pregnancy; most of them (60.3%) have not used herbal medicine until the time of pregnancy and 54% were persuaded by family members to use traditional medicine with the perception that traditional medicine is safe as 51.3% agrees that herbal medicines are more effective than modern medicines for malaria treatment. 51.9% disagree that traditional medicine cannot cause any side effects to a pregnant woman or her baby. Higher proportion (61.9%) disagree that traditional medicine can cause premature birth and 75.1% disagree that herbal medicine can cause sudden contractions or miscarriages in a pregnant woman. Although, 59.8% disagree that herbal medicine makes the fetus (baby) healthy and 50.8% agree herbal medicines can cause deformities in babies. \u0000Conclusion: Herbal medicine may be beneficial for the treatment of malaria among pregnant women, but there is a controversy of information on the dangers of its use. Thus, health care providers are encouraged to provide proper care, health education and counseling to help educate expectant mothers on the potential danger of the use of traditional medicine during pregnancy.","PeriodicalId":93707,"journal":{"name":"Journal of disease and global health","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45760465","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The severity of urinary tract infection depends both on the virulence of the bacteria and the susceptibility of the host. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of urinary tract infection and demographic differentials among students, and also to treat effectively the infection, prevent urosepsis and reduce the likelihood of renal damage and provide symptomatic relief to patients. The objectives were to determine the proportion of students who have UTI, identify the common causative organism and to determine difference in UTI occurrence among students based on demographic variables. Ten students within the period of study were investigated. Personal data were collected using a structured questionnaire. Early morning midstream clean urine samples were collected from all participants who were willing to participate for analysis of UTI. Urine samples were cultured using standard loop technique on blood agar, cystein lactose electrolyte deficient medium agar and macconkey agar. Gram staining and biochemical test. After subculture the isolates were both Gram negative and positive, catalase test positive, oxidase test negative, citrate test negative, coagulase test positive, indole test negative. Total colony counts in the samples from the girls 68 105, 99 105, 21 103, 0 1 , 34 5. Then from the boys were 14 2 21 104, 18 103, 14 102, 0 101. Sensitivity test were carried out using Kirby-bauer method (disck diffusion method). The organisms were tested with antibiotics disc. . The tests were carried out on Mueller-Hinton agar, and incubated for 37degree celcius for 24hrs. All the bacteria were screened against Nitrofurantoin ceftriaxone, ciprofloxacin, gentamicin, ofloxacin, augmentin, pefloxacin, clarithromycin, chloramphenicol, ampicillin,. three ( 3 ) out of all the antibiotics bacteria that was isolated were sensitive to Nitrofurantoin, ampicillin, ciprofloxacin, While 5 were resistant to the other five (5) antibiotics , ceftriaxone, gentamicin, ofloxacin, augumentin, pefloxacin, clarithromycin, chloramphenicol. Nitrofuration, ciprofloxacinand Ampicilin showed the highest zone of inhibition in the urine sample analysis .by calculating the mean of inhibition zone diameters in replicate plates. Conclusion the general results show that Screening for UTI is important in every students. Based on the results Nitrofurantoin and ciprofloxacin, and ampicillin are the drug of the choice due to high resistant rate to the commonly used antibiotic we highly recommend it since is the most sensitive antibiotic and should be used.","PeriodicalId":93707,"journal":{"name":"Journal of disease and global health","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45511892","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is challenging to clinically distinguish the condition from varicella and smallpox. The identification and surveillance of diseases rely heavily on laboratory diagnostics, and novel tests are required for a quicker and more accurate diagnosis. The bulk of human infections occur in Central Africa, where surveillance in underdeveloped rural regions can be challenging but is possible with the help of technologies that are evidence-based and materials that teach public health professionals about key concepts. Now that smallpox immunization is not a common practice, epidemiological studies are required. For the treatment and averting monkey pox, new medications and vaccines provide hope. They need more study before they can be used in an endemic environment, though. To better understand and prevent human infections, there is a need for additional research into the biology, ecology, and epidemiology of the virus in endemic areas. The research shows smallpox symptoms and signs are similar to those of human monkey pox. The virus that causes monkey pox can alter the genetic makeup of the virus, ecological changes, and host behaviour, raising concerns that it may evolve into a more dangerous illness in humans. Humans can contract the virus by being bitten by an infected animal, coming into contact with its blood, body fluids, or fur, or by petting infected animals. Meat that has been inadequately processed from a sick animal may be contagious. Humans can catch the virus by touching an infected person's skin blisters or scabs, coming into contact with cough droplets, or by using bedding, clothing, or towels that have been worn by someone who has a rash. Moreover, experts believe sexual contact can also spread the infection.","PeriodicalId":93707,"journal":{"name":"Journal of disease and global health","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46383270","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

After the increasing number of cases within the entire planet, World Health Organization revealed SARS-CoV-2 as the epidemic on March 11, 2020. It is seen that the novel virus has affected 140,780,297 people with nearly 3,015,798 deaths across the globe. Some people experience mild to moderate symptoms whereas some fall seriously ill. The infected patients show signs like dry cough, fatigue and fever. Apart from this smell and taste loss was also observed in nearly 70% patients. Hence, neurological manifestations have been observed during covid conditions. ","PeriodicalId":93707,"journal":{"name":"Journal of disease and global health","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45888477","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The corresponding treatment of these diseases is difficult. A 66-year-old Thai man with underlying SLE presented with generalized yellowish erythematous papules and plaques throughout his body. No evidence of fever, lymphadenopathy, or hepatosplenomegaly was noted. Antinuclear antibodies (ANA) were positive but anti-dsDNA, anti-Smith, anti-snRNP, and anti-Ro antibodies were negative. The histopathology was consistent with KFD, and the patient was diagnosed with a Kikuchi disease-like inflammatory pattern. Hydroxychloroquine elicited a rapid and favorable response in the patient who remained relapse-free while on low-dose hydroxychloroquine.
