The films differ from planktonic cells by increased resistance to the host immune system and antibacterial drugs. The available acellular pertussis vaccines (aPV) containing antigens isolated from planktonic cultures of B. pertussis protect from severe forms of whooping cough, but do not effectively influence circulation of virulent strains in the subclinical forms of the disease and asymptomatic carriage. It is promising to create new generation aPV based on antigens isolated from biofilm cultures of B. pertussis capable of more effectively controlling the entire infectious cycle of whooping cough, including colonization, persistence, and transmission of the pathogen. From antigenic complexes isolated from the culture medium of biofilm and planktonic cultures of the strain B. pertussis No. 317 (serotype 1.2.3), experimental aPV were made: aPV-B and aPV-P, respectively. In intracerebral infection of mice with a virulent strain of B. pertussis, aPV-B demonstrated 2.5-fold higher protective activity than aPV-P and also more effectively reduced colonization of the lungs by B. pertussis cells in mice after intranasal infection with a virulent strain. Both vaccine preparations were safe and did not cause death in mice after administration of histamine.</p>","PeriodicalId":9331,"journal":{"name":"Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2024-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141911838","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Neurobehavioral tests were performed 4, 24, and 48 h after focal cerebral infarction (FCI) using a modified neurological severity score (mNSS); additionally, the horizontal stability test, the plantar sensitivity test of the fore and hind limbs, holding on the tilted cage top test, and negative geotaxis test were performed. The size of FCI and the severity of brain tissue swelling were examined on day 2 after occlusion. Tryptanthrin and its oxime were administered at a dose of 10 mg/kg intraperitoneally during FCI, then daily for 2 days. In the control group, the mean score of neurological deficit remained at a high level for 2 days. FCI size was 43.8±3.4% of hemisphere area, and the hemisphere volume increased by 18.5±2.0% due to brain tissue swelling and edema. Administration of tryptanthrin and its oxime significantly decreased neurological deficits at all control points and reduced FCI size (by 24.2 and 30.4%, respectively) and brain tissue swelling of the affected hemisphere (by 64.9 and 62.7%, respectively). Therefore, the neuroprotective effect of tryptanthrine and its oxime in the acute period of FCI is largely determined by their anti-inflammatory activity.</p>","PeriodicalId":9331,"journal":{"name":"Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2024-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141911828","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Radiation exposure led to delayed active growth, leukopenia, and lymphopenia for over 1 year during the post-radiation period. The death of irradiated males and females occurred significantly earlier than in control group animals. Median lifespans in the experimental group were 35-38% lower than in the control group (p<0.001). Ionizing radiation exposure led to the early development of hair depigmentation, cachexia, and the development of aging-associated diseases.
