In this longitudinal study, we monitored the intake and treatment of 5,323 adolescents in the Departments of Paediatrics in Dutch hospitals from 2007 to 2016. Methods: From 2007 to 2016, we collected data on all adolescents (inclusion criteria: age younger than 18 and a positive BAC) treated by a papediatrician in a hospital. Within the Dutch Pediatric Surveillance System (NSCK), pediatricians report adolescents and complete a questionnaire, making use of a patient interview. Results: In total, 5,323 adolescents were treated, mainly (4,674; 88%) for severe alcohol intoxication; the mean age was 15.4 years, and 52% were boys. The average BAC level increased during the study period (1.82 in 2007 to 2.01 in 2016), and the average reduced consciousness time lasted from 2.24 hours in 2007 to 3.12 hours in 2016. The attitudes of the parents changed over the years: in 2011 (first year of registration for this measure), 24% of the parents did not give permission to their under-aged son or daughter to drink alcohol; however, in 2016, this number had increased to 58%. Conclusion: Alcohol intoxication treatment in adolescents remains an important issue. This dataset enables us to conduct longitudinal analyses on the characteristics of alcohol intoxication in adolescents, the medical treatment, and the events leading up to the intoxication.","PeriodicalId":92800,"journal":{"name":"Journal of addiction research (OPAST Group)","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-02-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48077711","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Surgical intervention is the most efficient management of morbid obesity. Between 2003 and 2010, 113,000 cases per year underwent bariatric surgery. Some studies suggest long-term total mortality rate is reduced after surgery, particularly deaths from heart disease, diabetes, and neoplasms. However, the rate of death from other causes was higher; suicide is the main contributing factor. Here we present a case of 41-year-old female with recurrent psychiatric hospitalizations due to Alcohol abuse and suicidal attempts after bariatric surgery. She was admitted to our service after she attempted to jump from the roof of her building while intoxicated with Alcohol. A month prior, she was hospitalized in another hospital for the same reason. She responded well to psychosocial support, psychoeducation, learning coping skills, and group supportive therapy. Her treatment regimen included the use of acamprosate, lithium, and risperidon. She reported a decrease in anxiety and anger, an improved sleep cycle, and improved judgment and impulse control. We use this case to illustrate the great need to identify the risk factors for psychiatric morbidity after bariatric surgery and encourage clinicians to be mindful of this potential development after bariatric surgery and ensure psychiatric follow up for these at risk patients.","PeriodicalId":92800,"journal":{"name":"Journal of addiction research (OPAST Group)","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-02-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41793468","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

High percentage of addiction recurrence (more than 80%) indicates that the nature and therapeutic method of addiction have not been recognized and it demands more efforts in this fi eld. Thus, the present study was conducted with an aim to examine the effect of Bandura’s social cognitive theory implementation on addiction quitting of clients referred to Imam Reza Hospital addiction quitting clinic. Materials and Methods: This two-group experimental study was conducted on 60 clients (30 clients in test group and 30 in control group) referred to Imam Reza Hospital addiction quitting clinic. The study tools were demographic and addiction-quitting self-effi cacy questionnaires. After gathering demographic data and conducting pretest, the intervention was carried out based on Bandura’s social cognitive theory for the test group and post-test was taken 1 month after the intervention. Data were analyzed by SPSS using related tests. Results: According to the results, test group was more successful than the control group in addiction quitting. There was a signifi cant difference between the two groups in terms of recurrence; it was less in the test group. A signifi cant difference was also found between self-effi cacy scores before and after the intervention in the test group. Conclusion: Using Bandura’s social cognitive theory was effective on addiction quitting. So, it is recommended to apply it for clients referring to addiction quitting clinics.","PeriodicalId":92800,"journal":{"name":"Journal of addiction research (OPAST Group)","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-01-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70242266","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
