Most recently, gambling companies have partnered with academic institutions to reach younger and more impressionable adults. Per a recent New York Times Articles titled, “How College and Sports Betting Companies “Ceasarized” Campus Life”, over eight universities have already partnered with online sports betting companies [1]. These academic institutions direct students, irrespective of age, to betting websites with promo codes which provide “free” funds to gamble [1]. While the full extent of the repercussions of such actions are not yet clear, to hand-wave these endorsements as “harmless” and “free” is sorely naïve.","PeriodicalId":92800,"journal":{"name":"Journal of addiction research (OPAST Group)","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42762730","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This unique neural signal expression is determined by the nature of the neuron, which is determined by the neurotransmitters it secretes. In the nervous system, the particlization process of neural signals can create structural relationships between neurons within a neural region. Within a neural region, the extreme combinations of the particlization process of neural signals from different neurons generate consciousness. The specific and non-specific neural tracts together form a reflex cross-section composed of the neural structures within the thalamic reflex pathway. The neural structures that make up the thalamic reflex cross-section are easily controlled by the thalamus, affecting the neural activity of various neural structures within the entire cerebral cortex, and forming neural reflex responses throughout the cerebral cortex","PeriodicalId":92800,"journal":{"name":"Journal of addiction research (OPAST Group)","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48773242","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For the entire cerebral cortex, a neuron is merely a geometric point, devoid of spatiotemporal features. Neurons cannot tolerate electrical activity that is consistently higher than the action potential. At a certain point in time, numerous neurons collectively generate an “unbearable neural behavior” that forms a “neural sensation.” This “neural sensation” merges to create “neural information,” which in turn produces a “conscious response” within the entire cerebral cortex. The sensations caused by granule cells in the cerebral cortex are specific, while those caused by projection cells in the cerebral cortex are structural. This is because the distribution of granule cells in the cerebral cortex is highly specialized, while projection cells are homogenized. In a brain, neurons with the same properties possess the same neural sensations.","PeriodicalId":92800,"journal":{"name":"Journal of addiction research (OPAST Group)","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48301545","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These drugs, which are designed to increase physical and mental performance, have become increasingly popular among athletes and other individuals seeking an edge in their chosen field. Decriminalizing these substances has allowed for more open discussion about their use and potential benefits while also removing the stigma associated with them as well as any legal ramifications that may have been attached previously. This shift in attitude towards enhancement drug use is likely to lead to increased research in the area, leading to a better understanding of how they work and what effects they can produce when used responsibly. In this opinion, I briefly discuss topics related to the criminalization of enhancement drugs. First, I investigate the question, “What is an enhancement drug?” using my own research. Second, I explore how drug use is regulated. Finally, I situate these debates in relation to calls for drug decriminalization. The regulation of drug use is a complex issue that involves legal, social, and health considerations. Decriminalization has been proposed to address the negative consequences of drug use and reduce the harms associated with criminalization. I conclude by exploring the potential implications of decriminalization for society and discuss the need for further research in this field.","PeriodicalId":92800,"journal":{"name":"Journal of addiction research (OPAST Group)","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41422321","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It traces their complex relationships with three popular party drugs – MDMA/ ecstasy, cocaine, and alcohol – and explores the difficulties of balancing the harms and benefits within the context of situated poly-drug use practices. Method: Longitudinal qualitative interviews with 31 young adults, aged 22 to 25. Three phases of thematic, semi-structured interviews were conducted from February 2018 to April 2019. Results: This paper describes participants’ relationships to both MDMA and cocaine and the various ways they balance the risks and pleasures associated with these drugs. Participants appeared to succeed in balancing the two with MDMA, based largely on effective harm reduction messaging. With their cocaine use, however, we see a rise in challenges complicating this balancing act. Framed by ‘harm reduction from below,’ this paper shows that participants generally see cocaine’s adverse effects as less physically and mentally harmful than those of MDMA and this is reflected in their drug use choices. But the perception of cocaine’s relative safety has consequences, particularly when we consider the drug’s normalization and acceptability in spaces where it is frequently co-consumed with alcohol. In light of their consistent co-consumption of cocaine and alcohol, this pathway analysis suggests that participants’ efforts to reduce harm in one instance could create more harm and long-term negative effects in another. And as a result, participants struggle to bring the risk and pleasure of this co-consumption into balance. Conclusion: Further exploration on both young peoples’ evolving motivations of drug choice and use and on how young people navigate the nuances of balancing acts within their poly-drug use would be a helpful contribution to advancing field of harm reduction. An emphasis on the psychological and physical risks of the prevalent practice of co-consuming cocaine and alcohol are also encouraged.","PeriodicalId":92800,"journal":{"name":"Journal of addiction research (OPAST Group)","volume":"67 8","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41300291","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Existing therapeutic interventions for this disorder (e.g. cognitive behavioural therapy, counselling) have evidence supporting their effectiveness in benefiting individuals diagnosed with Internet Addiction Disorder (IAD). To date and to our knowledge, there has been no systematic literature review considering the effectiveness of hypnosis-based therapies for IAD addressed in this review. Using the PRISMA model, findings revealed no published papers met the inclusion criteria, though there is evidence that hypnosis may benefit other associated disorders. The results and recommendations for further research and the inclusion of hypnosis-based interventions for IAD are discussed.","PeriodicalId":92800,"journal":{"name":"Journal of addiction research (OPAST Group)","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43550805","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Furthermore, ability of reading comprehension activated learners to communicate with writers. To understand main ideas of written texts, help learners to be aware and to get particular messages from texts. Cognitive and metacognitive knowledges help readers to analyze, to summarize, to judge, and to distinguish main idea of reading texts and also more details about writer viewpoints to predicate and decision making to monitor text contents too. Monolingual students are those groups which must be aware about impacts of metacognitive strategy upon reading development and comprehension through to prepare and emanate bio feedbacks with teachers. Hence, monolingual groups have to be taught more than bilingual ones due to their low – proficiency levels and also their weak knowledge capacities about reading development strategies. Indeed, today understanding the effective strategies which help to learn language skills for all of scholars in TESOL domains is very significant, so every teacher that is aware about efficacy of those psychological strategies like cognitive and metacognitive or both; he or she is able to teach language skills particularly reading comprehension very conveniently and more productive language learning results. Without understanding reading strategy text comprehension to learn language skills is impossible.","PeriodicalId":92800,"journal":{"name":"Journal of addiction research (OPAST Group)","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46924134","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are limited data available on the quality of life among breast cancer patients in Ethiopia, notably in the Amhara region. This study aimed to assess the quality of life and associated factors among patients with breast cancer in the Amhara Region, Ethiopia, 2019. Methods: Institutional based cross-sectional study was conducted from March 25 to July 7/2019 among 256 patients with breast cancer in the Amhara region. A systematic random sampling technique was used. Data were collected by using a standardized interviewer-administered Amharic version of the European Organization for research and treatment of cancer quality of life questionnaire core 30(EORTC QLQ C30) and breast cancer supplementary measure (QLQ-BR23). Data were analyzed by SPSS version 23. A binary logistic regression model was fitted to identify the associated factors. The odds ratio (OR) with 95% confidence interval (CI) was used to measure the strength of association. Results: Sixty-eight point four percent (68.4%) of breast cancer patient’s QoL was poor. The mean score of quality of life was 70.6(standard deviation (SD) ±13.9; 95% CI: 69.0-72.4). All functional component scores were less than 75, from the symptom scale; diarrhea (11.6), constipation (17.5), and dyspnea (24.7) were less noticeable. Unmarried patients (AOR=2.59, 95% CI: 1.32-5.07), poor (AOR=2.39, 95%CI: 1.32-5.03), non housewife (AOR=3.25, 95% CI: 1.16-7.22), and complaints to dyspnea (AOR=3.48, 95% CI: 1.79-6.79), and insomnia (AOR=2.03, 95% CI: 1.05-3.91) were significantly associated with quality of life. Conclusions: Health care professionals should give attention to unmarried, and non-housewife breast cancer patients, besides the treatment to improve the health of breast cancer patients.","PeriodicalId":92800,"journal":{"name":"Journal of addiction research (OPAST Group)","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69508552","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
