IoT has ceased to be a novelty, becoming a reality in people’s daily lives, since wearable devices and smartphones have become a daily basis tool for a large part of the population. The level of resolution and detection of problems have become a bottleneck for such technologies, which the human error is not more admissible. Since heterogeneity and autonomy are desirable characteristics in IoT systems, especially when such systems are aimed at monitoring the health of their user, MAS is highly required. This research provides a systematic review on the use of MAS in biomedical engineering, focusing on interactions in healthcare environments, architecture and inter-agent communication.","PeriodicalId":92654,"journal":{"name":"International journal of biosensors & bioelectronics","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44133218","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The pulsomagneto cardiac pressure gauge (PPC), is a non-invasive device, which records the cardiac output (CO) at the skin level and continuously. The objective of this work is determining the correlation of the GC measurement between the PPC system and the Fick Method in patients in the intensive care unit (ICU). It is a prospective, observational and longitudinal study. The CO was measured with both methods in 121 patients at admission, in addition to performing an analysis with Bland-Altman. As a Result of this work, the means of the CO by both methods did not show statistical differences p=0.05. The Sperman test reported a coefficient r=0.025, not significant p=0.77. The Bland-Altman analysis shows that the PPC overestimates the value of the GC at 3L. The results suggest that an imperfect standard was chosen. The pulse-magneto cardiac pressure gauge is operator-dependent. The PPC is a portable device for non-invasive monitoring of GC in critical patients.","PeriodicalId":92654,"journal":{"name":"International journal of biosensors & bioelectronics","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43976004","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

SCMR is very useful for higher power transfer especially in near field magnetic resonance applications. We demonstrated a method to improve the efficiency of cochlear implant coils to maximize the power efficiency at MhZ frequencies. Materials and methods: This is a comparative cross-sectional study, conducted over six months in the city of León, GTO, in which 30 volunteers without a history of cardiovascular disease (20 women and 10 men) in an age range between 25 to 40 years. Results: 60 measurements of the pressure waves of the volunteers were recorded simultaneously, using ultrasound equipment and the cardiac pulse pressure (PPC), recording among them an important difference in obtaining the pulse waves through biomagnetism. Conclusion: The results suggest that the measurement modality with the PPC, in addition to being a simple and easy to apply procedure to obtain the carotid pulse signal compared to the signal obtained with the carotid ultrasound, offers potential as an alternative technique for pressure and arterial wavelength records at skin level.","PeriodicalId":92654,"journal":{"name":"International journal of biosensors & bioelectronics","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49384371","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition to vibrating systems, sound emission systems are also used to aid navigation for blind people,1 these systems are composed of cameras combined with ultrasonic sensors, only cameras or only ultrasonic sensors.2 A literature review by Almeida shows that from 2016 onwards there was a drop in the number of studies using ultrasound as the main means of object detection. The author explains that this drop is due to the fact that technologies using cameras for the recognition of objects and people are drawing the attention of the scientific sphere and more researches in this area are being developed.2 Ifukube3 performed tests for detecting an object by the generation of sounds and the use of ultrasonic sensors. He showed the importance of hearing low and high frequency sounds in order to improve the detection of the object’s position. Simultaneously, studies such as Nabhani’s4 & Manju’s7 & Velappa’s6 used neural networks for object recognition, having Nabhani used cameras and Manju and Velappa used ultrasonic sensors. These authors showed that the use of neural networks is a viable method for identifying objects.4,5 Neural networks are architectures used for machine learning, their main block is the neuron, a small functional unit. The neuron has an input and an output that is calculated through an activation function and a bias. The combination of several neurons forms the neural network with its activation functions, bias and weights. The latter is related to the extracellular pH via ionic pumps. Dysregulation of these pumps directly affects biological processes. More generally, intracellular pH plays an important role in cells, enzymes and tissue activity like proliferation, apoptosis, resistance to drugs, ion transport or muscle contraction. Intracellular pH is also a key factor in many other biology fields which would be too long to present and outside the scope of this short paper.1 Using pH sensitive molecules, intracellular pH imaging is possible either in a direct fluorescence intensity imaging or ratiometric imaging techniques. For example, Hornig et al2 tested the diffusion of fluorescein and FITC in fibroblasts.2 Kaylor used SNARF in a ratiometric configuration at 570 nm and 620 nm in order to image tumors in mice,3 and found out that the pH was lower in the cancerous region. Gibbin and co-workers used the BCECF-AM pH indicator to monitor the effect of CO2 on intracellular pH with or without the use of a photosynthesis inhibitor in coral cells.4 Describing all the pH sensing molecules would be quite long and fastidious. Han and Burgess proposed a very complete review describing these molecules as described elsewhere.1 In this communication, we restrict our study to the case of the ratiometric indicator SNARF. SNARF exhibits a pKa equal to 7.5 which makes it a good candidate for sensing in the physiological pH range (about pH = 6 to 8). This molecule exhibits only two forms: protonated and deprotonated. Therefore, the fluorescence signal is due to two forms with relative contributions depending on the pH of the solution under test according to the law of mass action (see below). Each protonated or deprotonated form exhibits characteristic fluorescence and/or absorption spectra.5 Shifts between spectra obtained for protonated and deprotonated species can be exploited in order to perform a ratiometric measurement. In,5 discrepancies between pH measured using fluorescence and actual pH values were reported. This is mainly because not every proton participates in the acid-base equilibrium. Other works reported such discrepancies and attempts have been made to explain and/or correct them by mathematical means.6","PeriodicalId":92654,"journal":{"name":"International journal of biosensors & bioelectronics","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67071949","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Besides intense pain, FM patients can also present a clinical picture of fatigue, insomnia, headaches and intestinal changes. One of the most important challenges related to the disease is the difficult diagnosis, which can be confusing because it presents symptoms common in many other pathologies (like anxiety and depression). Some characteristics that can contribute to a better diagnosis are the differences in the level of certain biological molecules, such as some hormones and markers. The conversion of the information referring to the levels of these biological compounds into a measurable analytical signal is the focus of some biosensors recently reported in the literature. These devices are expected to collaborate in increasing the reliability of the indirect FM diagnostics. In this sense, this mini review presents an overview on the recent trends on the fabrication of some biosensors based on different transduction mechanisms and bioreceptors to detect analytes of interest for the indirect diagnosis of FM.","PeriodicalId":92654,"journal":{"name":"International journal of biosensors & bioelectronics","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67071432","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
