Past medical history was insignificant; parents did not signal any helpful information. Laboratory tests and radiology imaging were normal except for high inflammatory indices and modest spleen enlargement. Rotavirus infection was isolated from the blood cultures. We want to describe this unusual case of cat-scratch disease presenting with soft mono-lateral optic nerve involvements without the typical scratch related regional lymphadenopathy in order to highlight the heterogeneous presentation of Bartonella Henselae infection, especially in children. Therefore, we should consider cat-scratch disease in any patients with FUO and unspecific systemic symptoms even if there is not a recent cat relate contact and a typical clinical presentation.","PeriodicalId":92003,"journal":{"name":"Archives of medicine","volume":"20 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83850858","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cardiovascular diseases are the most common cause of adult death in the world. Over 80% of cardiovascular disease deaths take place in low-and middleincome countries and occur almost equally in men and women. The main causes of cardiovascular diseases are tobacco use, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, high blood pressure and high blood cholesterol. The association of coronary heart disease and periodontal disease may be due to an underlying response trait, which places an individual at high risk for developing both periodontal disease and atherosclerosis. It was suggested that periodontal disease, once established provides a biological burden of endotoxin and inflammatory cytokines, especially thromboxane A2, prostaglandin E2, interleukin (IL) 1L=1 α, and tumor necrosis factor-β, which serve to initiate and exacerbate atherogenesis and thromboembolic events. As we known dental infection especially periodontal disease can be tightly connected with cardiovascular disease, that’s the reason why patients who have valvular defect or some other congenital defects such as septal defects, or who have prosthetic valve, should receive antibiotic therapy as prophylaxis before any blood included procedure. It is very important to prevent periodontal disease, or if it’s already present, the treatment should commence as soon as possible to prevent the risk factors from occurring and causing cardiovascular disease.","PeriodicalId":92003,"journal":{"name":"Archives of medicine","volume":"47 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84360909","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Collagenase Clostridium histolyticum (CCH) is a minimallyinvasive treatment option for it. Hand function and patient´s satisfaction were commonly measured by the Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand (QuickDASH) questionnaire. The Spanish QuickDASH is the only validated Spanish region-specific questionnaire can be employed for the clinical assessment of patients with pathologies of the hand, such as Dupuytren's Disease. The aim of the study was to determine the usefulness of the abbreviated Spanish version of the QuickDASH, as an effective tool for evaluation of Dupuytren's disease treatment outcomes and their correlation with objective outcomes measuring improvement in residual contracture following treatment. Methods: We conducted a prospective cohort study from April 2016 to June 2017 involving the selection of patients from three different hospitals. The measurement of the clinical results was made by calculating the difference between prior and post-treatment degrees of contraction (Thomine´s coefficient) and QuickDASH questionnaire was self-administered by patients pre- and post-treatment. Results: 46 patients (66.1 ± 1.1 years) completed the study. The mean correction for the metacarpophalangeal joint was -26.67 degrees (p<0.001) and -23.39 degrees for the proximal interphalangeal joint. The mean change in QuickDASH score was 8.88 (p<0.001) at a mean 34.6-day follow-up. The study showed a low correlation between the QuickDASH scores and the improvement in mobility, showing a weak relation between the scores (r<0.2). Conclusion: In our study, QuickDASH questionnaire scores for the treatment of Dupuytren´s disease did not correlate with clinical outcomes.","PeriodicalId":92003,"journal":{"name":"Archives of medicine","volume":"55 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80428403","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In certain countries, it relates to the study of the dynamic relationship between periodontal diseases and systemic conditions [1]. During the past 15 years, a large body of literature has identified oral/periodontal infection and inflammation as a risk factor for the development and/or severity of certain systemic diseases and disorders. Many studies have been focused on the influence of periodontal disease on diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disease, adverse birth outcomes and respiratory diseases. Other associations have been reported (e.g. dementia, chronic kidney disease and certain forms of cancer), but the literature on these topics is not robust [2-4].","PeriodicalId":92003,"journal":{"name":"Archives of medicine","volume":"28 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84747112","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

CSF microscopic examination revealed the presence of Gram Positive diplococci, identified as S. pneumoniae after detection of pneumococcal capsular antigen. Tests for Group B Streptococcus on mother and child were both negative. The case was peculiar because in industrialized countries the most common agents responsible of neonatal meningitis are GBS, E. coli and Listeria monocytogenes, where pneumococcal meningitis in the neonatal period is quite uncommon: It is then necessary to consider that, in any case of early onset neonatal meningitis, S. pneumoniae is a possible yet uncommon causative agent, and that the microbiological profile of early onset neonatal meningitis in industrialized countries might change substantially because of migratory streams and the subsequent diffusion of emerging microorganisms, which are unusual at the present time.","PeriodicalId":92003,"journal":{"name":"Archives of medicine","volume":"40 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83584393","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
