Recent work has attempted to derive such rules from automatic analysis of corpora. Here we study similar issues, but in the context of the biological literature. We introduce a new approach which allows us to assign probabilities of the semantic relatedness of pairs of tokens that occur in text in consequence of their relatedness as character strings. Our analysis is based on over 84 million sentences from the MEDLINE database, over 2.3 million token types that occur in MEDLINE, and enables us to identify over 36 million token type pairs which have assigned probabilities of semantic relatedness of at least 0.7 based on their similarity as strings. The quality of these predictions is tested by two different manual evaluations and found to be good.</p>","PeriodicalId":90365,"journal":{"name":"The open information systems journal","volume":"6 ","pages":"1-12"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-11-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4072344/pdf/nihms572286.pdf","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"32466475","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The possibilities offered by the World Wide Web (WWW) are particularly important for small and medium sized enter- prises (SMEs). Using relatively modest financial resources, it has become possible to realize new business models, test new marketing possibilities and develop new markets. However, it is frequently uneconomical for SME to finance the de- velopment of its own, individual shop software solution. Complete or standard web shop systems \"out of the box\" offer traders an alternative. This article reports an investigation of the development of standard web shop systems from 1995 (as the Internet and WWW became a mass medium), starting with a definition of concepts and a general presentation of the development of Internet trading. A literature search forms the basis of an examination of the functional scope of standard web shop soft- ware systems since 1995. The second part of the article analysis the Surveys to show how the development changes with time. This analysis leads to the definition of five phases in the development of web shop systems from 1995 until the present day and presents an evo- lutionary model for standard web shop systems. In the final section, currently recognizable development trends are de- scribed and their importance is evaluated for standard systems.","PeriodicalId":90365,"journal":{"name":"The open information systems journal","volume":"6 1","pages":"8-18"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68052851","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of this paper is to use machine learning to order documents by popular- ity, or the predicted frequency that an article is viewed by the average PubMed user. Other research on general search en- gine usability has applied machine learning to order documents by their relevance to a given query. The approach here takes a global view of popularity across all users in a given time period, independent of their information need. An effec- tive method for learning popularity from clickthrough data is identified, and a novel measure of success in this task is pro- posed. The resulting model shows that the topic of an article has the largest single influence on its popularity, and its pub- lication date has a strong secondary influence. Possible applications and extensions are discussed.","PeriodicalId":90365,"journal":{"name":"The open information systems journal","volume":"5 1","pages":"1-7"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68052782","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Market desire in Internet Computing and data management/visualization is demanding, which drives academic research and industrial development leading to a range of new devices with increased speed, storage capacity, connectivity, mobility, autonomy and flexibility of use. The challenge ahead for these fields is to prove even more useful and effective in an even broader range of application domains. In view of this, the purpose of International Conferences on Internet Computing (ICOM) and Information Technology (CIT) - was to provide a platform for academics and engineers in this area to meet, exchange ideas, and establish new professional networks. \u0000 \u0000The number of papers submitted to ICOM and CIT has overwhelmed those of previous editions. The revision process for all papers was rigorous and thorough, including peer-reviewing from at least three qualified reviewers. The accepted papers are of very high quality and cover the wide range of topics of the conferences. For this special issue of XMLTech08 and Database and Data mining 08, we selected only six quality papers from the large number of papers published in the conferences. These six papers fall into various areas of XML technologies and Data Mining integrating with a wide range of disciplines, such as spatial database, image retrieval, music technology, Mobile-agent Systems, data storage efficiency and RDBMS.","PeriodicalId":90365,"journal":{"name":"The open information systems journal","volume":"3 1","pages":"68-68"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68052697","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Spatial co-location patterns represent the subsets of features whose instances are frequently located together in geographic space. It's difficult to discovery co-location patterns be- cause of the huge amount of data brought by the instances of spatial features. A large fraction of the computation time is devoted to identifying the table instances of co-location patterns. The essence of co-location patterns discovery and four co-location patterns mining algorithms proposed in recent years are analyzed, and a new join-less approach for co-location patterns mining, which based on a data structure----iCPI-tree (Improved Co-location Pattern Instance Tree), is proposed. The iCPI-tree is an improved version of the CPI-tree which materializes spatial neighbor relationships in order to acceler- ate the process of identifying co-location instances. This paper proves the correctness and completeness of the new ap- proach. Finally, an experimental evaluations using synthetic and real world datasets show that the algorithm is computa- tionally more efficient.","PeriodicalId":90365,"journal":{"name":"The open information systems journal","volume":"3 1","pages":"69-80"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-08-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68052710","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Even beginners are able to find relevant documents. \u0000This paper presents a hybrid query language suitable for both image and text retrieval. In previous works, all XML databases are implemented as a tree based structure which leads to increased space complexity. The proposed structure called RFX (Redundancy Free XML storage structure), addresses this issue by using a non tree based structure. This unique blend of hierarchical and re- lational databases in a single structure is largely effective in saving storage space thus achieving an increased compaction. Further RFX conceptualizes the separation of the information in the entire database as the topology layer, the tag layer and the data layer. The RFX structure has been designed to accommodate multiple document types i.e. Containment, Intra and Inter types of XML documents. Moreover in this proposal, it is ensured that the relationships among documents are never disturbed and are seamless with respect to their original counterparts. The document is parsed and stored in a differ- ent form to permit simple accessibility which is largely effective while querying and maintaining documents involving one-to-many relationships. Thus RFX paves way to effectively query and maintain the XML databases along with sub- stantial compaction. This approach shows that the proposed RFX structure is space efficient, redundant free, and time ef- ficient to update and to query Single, Intra and Inter structured XML document. The effectiveness of the approach makes it suitable for memory limited devices such as PDA. Performance evaluation over variety of XML documents and the user queries conform to the same.","PeriodicalId":90365,"journal":{"name":"The open information systems journal","volume":"85 1","pages":"98-107"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-08-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68052732","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
