But problem-solving has been used as an educational technique in medical education for many years, although during the last period of time the meaning of the term has changed. Nowadays, the term is used not only to describe how the symptoms and signs are put together to make a diagnosis, but also to imply an awareness and the way medical students are taught to use these stages and techniques. This discussion group concludes that problemsolving is a process and that its stages can be summarized as follows.","PeriodicalId":90259,"journal":{"name":"Medical education (Chicago, Ill.)","volume":"12 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1111/j.1365-2923.1978.tb04568.x","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"63251720","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It was agreed that such an integration would inevitably create tensions, but there was a very real need to look at ways of achieving co-operation, either by informal or formal means, or even by the total integration of existing organizations currently responsible for both health care and education. In particular, the group felt that the current conservative approach of the medical faculty not intervening in the health delivery system must give way (and is in fact giving way in many instances) to a commitment on the part of all concerned to establish a unified approach. The group then started with a discussion of role-playing as described by Lagercrantz below. Subgroup (a) discussed : role-playing, clinical interviewing, simulation, recording and training of teachers. Some general conclusions were noted : (i) a medical approach is important: the student has to learn not to miss the medical facts; and (ii) the social approach should not be overestimated.","PeriodicalId":90259,"journal":{"name":"Medical education (Chicago, Ill.)","volume":"12 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1111/j.1365-2923.1978.tb04569.x","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"63251781","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
