Study Design: Cross-sectional. Setting: Agroha village. Participants: 250 eligible couples. Methodology: The primary tool in this study was predesigned and pretested questionnaire for recording of individual informations. Result:The knowledge about one or more methods of contraception, particularly modern contraceptive methods was 95.0%, being 95.6% among males and 94.4% among females.The knowledge about traditional methods of contraception was 72.0% in males and 46.4% in females. The most common source of knowledge for all couples in general was the “Exposure to family planning messages” (72.0%) followed by discussion with doctors and other health care workers (42.6%). Sex-wise, the most common source of knowledge for males as well as females was “Exposure to family planning messages” (75.2% and 68.8% respectively). Of 250 interviewed couples, 148 (59.2%) were practicing different contraceptive methods. Completion of family was found to be the most common reason for using contraception (81.1%). Fertility related reasons (45.1%) followed by husband’s opposition (28.4%) were the common reasons for not using contraception. Positive attitude for contraception was shown by 198 (79.2%) females and 158 (63.2%) males. Conclusion: The study reveals good knowledge and favourable attitude of rural couples towards contraception. The study also highlights that awareness does not always lead to the use of contraceptives. A lot of educational and motivational activities and improvement in family planning services are needed to promote the use of contraceptives and reduce the high fertility rate.","PeriodicalId":89628,"journal":{"name":"The Internet journal of mental health","volume":"79 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86518014","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

If excess of anything is abnormal, does this mean an excess of cleanliness can lead to harmful effects? It is a general notion that one has to be clean in order to remain healthy and that poor hygiene leads to diseases and ill health. This is universally accepted and is true in most circumstances. However an excess of anything can be considered abnormal. Similarly undue importance to cleanliness can deprive an individual from the protective properties associated with it. It is the balance between cleanliness and untidiness that requires to be understood in order to derive benefits from both.","PeriodicalId":89628,"journal":{"name":"The Internet journal of mental health","volume":"1979 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82735417","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The differential diagnosis of epigastric pain is broad. Pain in this area can be due to gastroenterological, pancreaticobiliary and other causes, including non-gastroenterological disease. The prevalence of gastric pathology has been studied in detail and incidence of Helicobacter Pylori in peptic ulcer disease has been analysed.Methods:All the patients attending the OPD with epigastric pain has been examined and those cases with pathology affecting organs other than stomach have been excluded. The remaining patients has been subjected to routine endoscopic biopsy and screening for H.Pylori (by Rapid Urease Test).Results:Prevalence of disease with epigastric pain with reference to gastric pathology in this community is 83.3%.Incidence of helicobacter pylori among the patients with acid peptic ulcer disease symptoms was up to 74% which correlate with the world wide prevalence.Conclusion:Patients attending hospital with epigastric pain are mostly due to gastric pathology-acid peptic ulcer disease with high incidence of Helicobacter pylori. Hence patients attending hospital with epigastric pain, after excluding the causes of pain due to organs other than stomach should be subjected to routine upper gastro intestinal endoscopy, endoscopic biopsy and should be screened for Helicobacter pylori. Which highly prevent the patients more susceptible for carcinoma stomach. More over promotion of health education and awareness of the disease makes the patients present to hospital at earlier stage and prevents devastating complications. INTRODUCTION EPIGASTRIC PAIN PAIN IN THE MID-UPPER ABDOMEN The differential diagnosis of epigastric pain is broad. Pain in this area can be due to gastroenterological, pancreaticobiliary and other causes, including nongastroenterological disease .Gastrointestinal causes of epigastric pain include: Ulcers (stomach or duodenum), Non-ulcer dyspepsia/indigestion, Irritable bowel syndrome, Gastro oesophageal reflux disease (GERD), Stomach cancer, and abdominal wall hernias. Pancreaticobiliary causes of epigastric pain include: Acute pancreatitis, Chronic pancreatitis , Cholecystitis ,Gallbladder dyskinesia, Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction, Pancreatic cancer,Pancreatic cysts and pseudocysts,Cholangitis,Bile duct stones, Pancreas divisum. Non-gastroenterological causes of epigastric pain include: Atypical manifestation of coronary heart disease/angina, Myocardial infarction, especially that of the posterior wall of the heart other causes are also possible. The most common gastroenterological cause is “Peptic ulcer disease (PUD)” Peptic ulcer disease (PUD) is defined as an erosion in the lining of the stomach or duodenum.” peptic” alludes to pepsin, a proteolytic enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of proteins. About 4-10% develops PUD at some point.PUD incidence increases with age, with PUD most common in those older than 40yrs. A cost implications analysis was also performed to discover the potential savings to be made from improvement in this aspect of theatre efficiency. Prospective surveys recording start-time delays and total daily delay during 227 multiple-specialty cases were completed over five days in March 2010 in a UK District General Hospital, split over two sites. Information was collected onto a proforma for each case about specialty, procedure, start-time and end-time of the case, with request for an explanation for duration and reason for any delays incurred. An analysis of costs to the Trust was performed using estimated theatre hours lost with average cost of theatre use per hour.Overall 78% of cases started on time, i.e. within 15 minutes of the scheduled time, but orthopaedics and plastics achieved only 69% and 66% respectively. Orthopaedics and plastics also exceed the acceptable total daily delay time of 45 minutes (70 and 66 minutes respectively). Hospital-wide factors were the most common reason for the delays (72%). 48% were due to ward bed issues, 15% due to doctor factors and 13% inadequate pre-operative assessment. Estimated projected cost to the Trust over one year is significant at over £1 million ($1.5 million).During the study period, theatre time was lost for usually multi-factorial reasons, with hospital organisational factors being predominant. Opportunities to improve theater efficiency were identified.","PeriodicalId":89628,"journal":{"name":"The Internet journal of mental health","volume":"202 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77013735","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is affected by various factors like age, hypertension and diabetes. It is common in lower socioeconomic strata. This pilot study is done to know the effect of squatting position, which is commonly found during agricultural and various other occupations. Aim : To study the effect of Squatting in patients with established Arterial Disorders of Lower limbs compared to normal persons. Methods and Material: Patients with lower limb arterial disorders(cases) and normal persons(controls),10 each were made to squat and asked about symptoms, numbness and pain. Peripheral pulses were examined in both standing and squatting position. Results were confirmed by Doppler USG. Results: Controls complained of numbness after an average of 20 minutes. Blood flow was absent during squatting. Cases complained of numbness after an average of 2 minutes and developed pain in the involved limb after an average of 6 minutes. They were not able to squat after 15 minutes. Conclusions: Squatting worsens the disease in patients with lower limb arterial disorders hence should be avoided even if it is for small duration. INTRODUCTION Arterial disorders are one of the common causes of mortality and morbidity in developing as well as developed countries. The prevalence of peripheral vascular diseases is about 7 to 9%. Prevalence increases to 12% to 16% after the age of 65 years. It includes variety of disorders which usually end in atherosclerotic phenomenon of vessels. It is influenced by various factors which includes smoking, age, hyperlipidemia, hypertension, diabetes mellitus etc..... In India, its prevalence is increasing due to increased life expectancy, increased tobacco smoking and increased prevalence of diabetes. In India, prevalence is same with people of both high and low socio-economic strata. Does squatting temporarily worsen lower limb ischemia? Main occupation of rural India is agricultural works which demands continuous squatting posture. Some other occupations which require squatting are carpentry, housemaid work and fabrication and construction works etc... More than that, only about 5% of Indians may have access to western commode. All these result in people assuming squatting position for some duration everyday. Does this have any effect in patients of lower limb arterial disorders? This study is a pilot study to assess the effect of squatting on general and at risk population.","PeriodicalId":89628,"journal":{"name":"The Internet journal of mental health","volume":"266 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82995666","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Statistical Packages for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used for analyzing the completed questionnaires. Two hundred patients were recruited for this study. Results The respondent’s knowledge about ultrasonography was very high 182 (92.5%). 191(95.5%) had underdone investigation with ultrasonography at one time or the other, in the past. Majority 186 (93.0%) obtained their information from friends. The psychological response of respondents to ultrasonography was good. Most of the respondents 188(94.0%) indicate that their doctor communicated with them during ultrasonography, 194(97.0%) wished they received results immediately after an investigation; 176(88.0%) believed ultrasonography cannot cause cancer and 168(84.0%) believed that ultrasonography is not dangerous to their baby. ConclusionPrenatal ultrasonography has been embraced as being a vital part of prenatal care. A large percentage of respondents have heard about prenatal ultrasonography and duly opt for it. However their interpretation on what ultrasonography entails varied greatly with a lot of them having little or no knowledge about ultrasonography.","PeriodicalId":89628,"journal":{"name":"The Internet journal of mental health","volume":"16 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84691604","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Physical growth and health status of SSWs are depicted through the body mass index, body fat level, blood pressure, hypertension and many other health related covariates. Thus, socioeconomic, demographic, and health related data were collected from 352 SSWs from Rajshahi city of Bangladesh. Our study explores that more than half of the SSWs are suffering from back pain, joint pain, vaginal pain, and waist pain. By using both the logistic and linear probability models we have found some common factors which are hypothesized to be significantly affect these pains. Moreover, over body fat level is supposed to be more prominent in the severity of physical pains. Some curses like illiteracy, financial hardship, unsafe and unprotected over-sex with many physical complications are depriving them from minimum standard of urban life.","PeriodicalId":89628,"journal":{"name":"The Internet journal of mental health","volume":"29 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73041221","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
