The hemoptysis was successfully treated by Amplatzer Plug (St. Jude Medical) embolization of the supplying pulmonary artery branch. At the same time, bronchoscopy was performed to tamponade the patients bleeding and avoid exsanguination. Biopsy of the mass demonstrated poorly differentiated non small cell carcinoma. Post procedure day 13 the patient underwent staging with PET CT which showed localized disease. His hemoptysis resolved.","PeriodicalId":89580,"journal":{"name":"Journal of biomedical graphics and computing","volume":"4 1","pages":"68"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71215811","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One major objective of these guidelines is to prevent serious and/or harmful events in the course of disease. From a process analysis standpoint, such events are considered “errors” and should be investigated in accordance with the guidelines and tools for accident investigation. These tools include Process Mapping, Root-Cause Analysis, Influence Diagrams and Predictive Modeling methodology. The underlying principle is that all biologic environments are complex environments, involving a multitude of individual processes following multiple pathways and under the influence of numerous factors at multiple levels; as opposed to a single-axis main process line of the Ishikawa diagram. Process mapping mandates a thorough understanding of the multi-linear, inter-dependent and overlapping pathways involved in the genesis and maintenance of disease. Through this approach, the impact of various factors on the end-result can be more adequately assessed. More robust utilization of registry data is essential for comprehensive and complete data collection and organization. A probability-based predictive model may be best suited to incorporate all relevant factors, including others recognized in the future.","PeriodicalId":89580,"journal":{"name":"Journal of biomedical graphics and computing","volume":"4 1","pages":"54"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.5430/JBGC.V4N4P54","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71215442","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective in this paper is to develop basic understanding of brain anatomical structure to be used for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and image processing along with necessary foundations to cultivate interdisciplinary research. The review incorporates the glorious history of MRI along with its marvelous mathematical contribution. This contribution makes the measurement of proton density possible which is then transformed into two dimensional magnetic resonance images for visualization and various brain related computer aided diagnostics and treatment. Spin physics, Magnetic field Precession, Larmor frequency, Bloch equation and Fourier Transform are the building blocks of magnetic resonance imaging. All the foundations which are compulsory and must be known at first sight to brain MRI are made available in this review.","PeriodicalId":89580,"journal":{"name":"Journal of biomedical graphics and computing","volume":"4 1","pages":"41"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.5430/JBGC.V4N4P41","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71215267","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Aims : To audit PCN insertions undertaken in women in order to determine the outcome, complications and their management, the age distribution and causes/indications for the procedure. Methods : The PACS and the automated letter systems as well as the laboratory results of the patients were used to obtain the relevant data. Results : Two hundred and seventeen patients underwent 344 PCN insertions with 100% success, 19 patients had 30 complications. No significant hemorrhage developed with 0.9% moderates and minor hemorrhages which settled. There was no death and no severe sepsis. The ages ranged from 17 to 95 years. Nephrostomy tube blockage occurred in 11(3%) patients. The nephrostomy tube fell-out and were replaced in 7(2%). One case of UTI was encountered. There most common indications for the PCN insertions were urinary tract calculi, transitional cell carcinoma of bladder, cervical carcinoma, urosepsis, pyonephrosis, and pregnancy. Conclusions: PCN insertion can be carried out safely in women of all ages including very old patients. The complication rate in our experience is low. Radiology departments should have trained radiologists capable of inserting nephrostomies.","PeriodicalId":89580,"journal":{"name":"Journal of biomedical graphics and computing","volume":"4 1","pages":"31"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.5430/JBGC.V4N4P31","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71215199","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

After pre-dilatation, the proximal LAD-Dg was stented with the platinum-chromium elevolimus-eluting stent (PtCrEES). After rewiring to LAD, the instant stent-accentuated 3-dimensional optical coherence tomography (iSA3D-OCT) was reconstructed from 2-dimensional OCT (2D-OCT) by ImageJ with self-made macro-program. Classification of overhanging struts in front of the side branch (SB) ostium was the connecting to carina type, and the recrossed wire was confirmed to pass through the large distal cell. After kissing balloon dilatation (KBD), the mid-distal LAD and the proximal-mid LAD were stented with PtCrEESs. After rewiring to Dg, classification of overhanging struts in front of the SB ostium was the free carina type, and the recrossed wire was confirmed to pass through the distal cell, according to iSA3D-OCT. After final KBD, final iSA3D-OCT showed no floating struts.","PeriodicalId":89580,"journal":{"name":"Journal of biomedical graphics and computing","volume":"4 1","pages":"26"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.5430/JBGC.V4N4P26","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71215345","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To realize the continuous clinical use and performance improvement of CAD software, it is necessary to continuously collect data for supervised learning in practical use and to improve CAD software by retraining with the collected data. In this study, we investigated the performance improvement of cerebral aneurysm detection software based on retraining the classifier through a simulation-based study. Methods: We collected data for retraining during the practical use of our cerebral aneurysm detection software and retrained the classifier for false positive (FP) reduction using the collected data. The effect on improving the performance was compared by changing the number of training cases and the training algorithms. Results: The performance was improved significantly ( p < .05) by retraining using additional training cases. In contrast, there were no statistical differences in the performance upon retraining among the four training algorithms for boosting. The sensitivity at 3 FPs/case was improved from 81.5% to 89.5% by retraining with additional training cases. Conclusions: The performance of the software was effectively improved by adding training cases rather than by changing the training algorithm.","PeriodicalId":89580,"journal":{"name":"Journal of biomedical graphics and computing","volume":"10 28 1","pages":"12"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.5430/JBGC.V4N4P12","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71215138","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this review is to describe the Computed tomography (CT) findings of solitary benign parietal lesions. Benign parietal bone lesions can exist in patients with history of cancer. Metastasis to the calvarium is rare compared to other sites in the body and primary skull tumors are even rarer. This is the second report of solitary cholesteatoma occurring in the parietal bone. All the clinical cases in this study were histologically proven. Benign solitary parietal lesions can have non-specific features on CT and in some cases, only biopsy can give a definite diagnosis.","PeriodicalId":89580,"journal":{"name":"Journal of biomedical graphics and computing","volume":"4 1","pages":"1"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-08-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.5430/JBGC.V4N4P1","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71215014","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
