This disease caused by SRAS-CoV-2 virus discovered for the first time in Wuhan, China, in December 2019 and declared as a pandemic by World Health Organization (WHO) in 2020. We looked to the ABO and Rh blood groups distribution in 1014 COVID-19 confirmed patients. Our results showed that blood group O was the most common in these patients compared to the least common which is the ABO blood group. This is result goes with the findings of a few other studies that observed the association between the ABO blood type and COVID-19. However, this study has many limitations such as the non-availability of blood grouping in a considerable number of patients. And four million babies are born still.. Most neonatal deaths (99%) occur in low financial gain and middle-income countries and concerning half the deaths occur at their home. it’s tragic that several newborn die per annum which could be simply preventable by newborn care. It is calculable that concerning seventy fifth of neonatal deaths might be avoided with easy, low value tools that exist already like antibiotics for respiratory disease and infection, sterile blades to chop the point cords exploitation knit caps and marsupial care to stay babies’ heat. Objective: The objective of this study was to assess the knowledge, attitudes and practices of newborn care among postnatal mothers at Debre tabor general hospital, south Gonder Zone, Amhara region, Ethiopia 2018. Methods: An institutional based cross-sectional study design was used for this study. Sample size was e calculated by using single population proportion formula. Final study subjects was selected using simple random sampling methods from those found in the Debre tabor general Hospital during data collection time until the sample size is fulfilled. The total sample size was 340. The data was collected by face to face interview after the instrument is pretested and necessary modification was made .The data were entered and analyzed by Excel. Result: A total of 186 postnatal mothers were interviewed with a response rate of 100%. among them 81.2% had good knowledge 87.6% had positive attitude and 89.8% had good practice of newborn care. Conclusion: This study indicates that nearly half and above respondents had good knowledge positive attitude and good practice of newborn care. Current strategies for an early diagnosis involve fetal echocardiography and physical examination. However, these practices fail to diagnose more than 50% of the cases. Since most CCHDs are hypoxic, the use of pulse oximetry to measure arterial oxygen saturation (SaO2) is considered as a complementary method for their detection. Studies have reported that the combination of echocardiography, physical examination and pulse-oximetry increases CCHDs diagnosis in newborns (NBs). Pulse oximetry screening algorithms are affected by altitude, and in Colombia, with a population concentrated at 1,000-2,700 meters above sea level, specific cut-off points for oxygen saturation are necessary.A construction and validation of an algorithm that would detect CCHDs in NBs in a range of 0-2,700 meters was done, based on 1) scientific literature available on pulse-oximetry in NBs, 2) SaO 2 values reported at different altitudes, 3) Neonatology and Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgery experts’ opinion, and 4) assessment by the Colombian Society of Neonatology, Cundinamarca.A SaO 2 <90% cut-off point was defined, measured by pulse oximetry during the first 24 hours of life, or a difference >3% in measurements for saturation in hand and foot, with referral for chest X-ray and transthoracic echocardiogram in case of <90% readings. It is the responsibility of the emergency department team to identify these conditions and to stablish the best approach; this includes stabilization of the patient, differential diagnosis based, laboratory and images findings; and a well guided treatment. Serious bacterial infections, congenital cardiac disease, gastro intestinal emergencies (including malrotation with midgut volvulus and necrotizing enterocolitis), respiratory conditions, neurologic disorders and child abuse are the most common diagnosis in this type of scenarios. At present, there are no effective prevention or treatment options for BPD in clinical practice. Tyrosine-Protein Kinase Kit (KIT) serves an important role in regulating cell proliferation, hematopoiesis and stem cell maintenance. In the present study, the protective role of overexpression of KIT in BPD was investigated. The candidate differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between patients with BPD and healthy controls were screened using bioinformatics. A neonatal BPD mouse model was established under a hyperoxic environment and KIT overexpressing cells were intravenously injected into the mice, followed by evaluation of the effects on respiratory system resistance, pulmonary development and remodeling. Bioinformatics analysis showed that KIT was down regulated in patients with BPD, and a protein-protein interaction network was created using the Search Tool for Recurring Instances of Neighboring Genes database, which indicated that KIT was associated with known disease-related genes and regulated VEGF expression. In the Dominican Republic, the neonatal mortality rate was 17‰ in 2018, among the highest in Latin America. Through an agreement between the National Health System (NHS) of the country and SIBEN, actions were planned, developed and implemented to improve care of sick newborns (NB) at risk of dying. Objective: To describe the actions implemented and to present the results obtained in the first year of collaborative work. Methods: Multidimensional interventions in the context of continuous quality improvement of care in all public hospitals of the country where neonatal care is delivered. The main components of the comprehensive program were: detailed monitoring of vital statistics; situational diagnosis working in the field, including assessment of clinical management and procedures, education, NB and family issues, staff issues, infrastructure, equipment, and legal/regulatory and ethical issues, in order to institute an appropriate “hierarchy of interventions”. In addition, we performed root cause analysis (RCA) in deceased NB and incorporated data collection system in the neonatal units through SIBEN’s neonatal network. Finally, we also performed a preliminary cost analysis. Results: The country’s neonatal mortality rate decreased from 17‰ in 2018 to 12.1‰ in 2019, with a relative risk reduction of 26%. There were improvements in infrastructure, equipment and staffing, together with modifications in clinical management and procedures and education and training. More than 600 neonatal health care professionals were trained, including nurses, neonatologists and neonatology residents. By root cause analysis (RCA), of 511 infants who died, 54% were <1500 grams and pulmonary hemorrhage (PH) was the most frequent cause. During 2019, 3,347 NB were admitted to 11 neonatal intensive care units (NICU) hospitals and reported to SIBEN’s Network. Comparing data from the first semester of 2019 with the second semester, mortality in the NICU’s decreased from 22.5% to 19%, detection of significant patent ductus arteriosus improved and PH frequency decreased. The cost of the program was approximately 1,100 dollars per each of the newborn whose life was saved. Conclusion: One year after the collaborative agreement between SIBEN and NHS started, organization and delivery of care to sick NB in public hospitals of the Dominican Republic improved, and has led to a significant increase in neonatal survival.
