Although great efforts are being done to discover a cure, cancer still remains a very prominent cause of mortality in humans, and its effective treatment is a formidable challenge. Although cancer therapies have been performed throughout the history, the efficacy of the treatment still remains a challenge. In recent years, natural product compounds have become the first choice of treatment in many cases. Gene therapy, in addition, is offering selective new methods for treatment. This review emphasizes the advancements cancer treatment using naturally derived products with significantly less toxicity and more efficacies; thereby enhancing the understanding of different cancers and potential of the plant based extract in the anti-cancer field.","PeriodicalId":8517,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Sciences","volume":"36 1","pages":"21-27"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73391179","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, this regenerative capacity of liver cells may be overwhelmed in acute liver failure and exhausted in cirrhosis with end stage liver disease. Currently liver transplantation is the only definitive treatment for these conditions of liver. However, due to the shortage of donor organs many patients are dying while on waitlist for liver transplantation. As a result it has become important to find an alternative strategy to keep these patients alive until their own livers regenerate or donor organs become available. Regenerative medicine and stem cell transplantation can help these patients. Adult stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells showed good results when transplanted in experimental animals. Stem cells engineered from patients’ own tissue proved to be safe, as well as non-immunogenic in clinical trials. Present review will discuss the current state of stem cell therapy, available stem cells and their application in different liver diseases.","PeriodicalId":8517,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Sciences","volume":"53 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78193119","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The phytochemical screening of the crude extract showed the presence of carbohydrates, alkaloids, cardiac glycosides, coumarin glycosides, saponins, flavonoids, phytosterols, phenols and tannins, proteins and terpenoids. The methanol extract showed the highest percentage extractive of 11.6. The anthelmintic activity was tested on Indian adult earthworm Pheretima posthuma. The leaf was extracted separately with methanol and distilled water using cold extraction method. Different concentrations (20, 40, 60 and 80 mg/ml) of each extract were tested for anthelmintic activity by determining the time of paralysis and time of death of the worms. The aqueous and methanol extracts showed anthelmintic activity at all concentrations and its activities are well comparable with the standard drug, albendazole (positive control). The methanol extracts showed the highest anthelmintic activity than albendazole as well as the aqueous extract. Tween 20 (1%) with saline was used as negative control did not show any anthelmintic activity.","PeriodicalId":8517,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Sciences","volume":"44 1","pages":"1-5"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74471874","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Spreng leaves have been studied. The yield of M. koenigii leaf essential oil (MKLEO) recorded as 0.52% which is higher than those reported earlier. Altogether 43 compounds were identified by GC-MS analysis representing 99.79% of the total composition of the oil, among which 3-carene, βpinene, α-pinene, linalool, α-eudesmol, p-cymene, γ-terpinene, α-amorphene, allo-ocimene, sabinene, γterpinene, linalyl acetate, myrcene, β- eudesmol, carvone, limonene, β-elemene, α-terpineol were major constituents. Antifungal activity of MKLEO was tested against ten pathogenic fungi and it was found effective in a dose dependent manner. Furthermore, MKLEO was found to exhibit superior radical scavenging potency and reducing power with IC50 and RP50 values close to those of the standards.","PeriodicalId":8517,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Sciences","volume":"32 1","pages":"6-13"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86948141","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Peptic ulcers are present in around 4% of the population.They newly began in around 53 million people in 2014. To understand the basis etiology and pathogenesis of the fundamental efforts and basic knowledge is required. The study has planned with following objective to understand the distribution of peptic ulcers. The 40 peptic ulcer disease patients were enrolled in to the study. The age group of the patients are from 20-70 years. The patients visited to Out Patient Department (OPD) and in-patient department (IPD) of a tertiary care hospital in North India were considered in the study. From the study it has been found that Duodenal ulcers are more common than gastric ulcers. The comments age of the ulcers are above 30 years. The majorly observed site of the ulcer pain is the epigastrium. The burning & the hunger is the commonest type of pain observed in the Duodenal ulcer. All patients suffering from the ulcers are doing smoking as well as alcohol consumption. The previous regular consumptions of the NSAID’s & Steroids are the also one of the factors for the duodenal & gastric ulcers.","PeriodicalId":8517,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Sciences","volume":"30 1","pages":"41-43"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-08-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82367617","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
