Through literature research on Brian McNair's thought, one crucial question is revealed, is the increasing role of mass communication in the political process \"good\" or \"bad\" for democracy? McNair shows that political interaction in the public sphere is dirty and not by democratic ideals. In the end, it was found that political communication is a philosophical problem, in this case, ethics. However, bringing up the term political communication ethics ultimately fell on an oxymoron understanding. Even so, for the sake of democracy, there needs to be an understanding that the ethics of political communication is necessary after considering the dangers of political communication without ethics.","PeriodicalId":85135,"journal":{"name":"Media development","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135536027","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The method used in this article is Theology in Creation, which is used to deepen the understanding of Christ as a healing shepherd who cares and fights for justice. The systematics of this article begins with the introduction of the problem, followed by a discussion of cases of sexual abuse that occurred in the history of the Catholic Church. Then, the article discusses power in Michel Foucault's theory and its challenges for political sociology. Next, the article highlights the importance of building a safe culture within the Church and protecting children from abuse. The novelty of this article lies in the Theology in Creation approach used to deepen the understanding of Christ as the healing shepherd. The article also invites the Indonesian Catholic Church to become more concerned and responsive to cases of sexual violence and abuse and to implement effective protection protocols.","PeriodicalId":85135,"journal":{"name":"Media development","volume":"82 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135536251","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is said to be double because for Calvin God not only chooses those who are saved, but also actively chooses those who are rejected. The problem that arises is that humans are rejected and cursed because of their sins. This way of thinking implies that humans sin based on their freedom. Therefore, the relationship between God’s sovereign determination and human freedom to sin is the main focus of this study. An analytical descriptive approach will be taken on the theme of double predestination in Institutes and freedom in the philosophical tradition to clarify the relationship between humans and determinism. This description produces a perspective to see the space of human freedom in God’s absolute sovereignty.","PeriodicalId":85135,"journal":{"name":"Media development","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135535885","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper is designed as a hermeneutic qualitative research. The theological examination leads the author to some critical findings. First, the Sacred Triduum should be seen as one liturgical celebration that lasts three days. The Sacred Triduum shows an unseparated sequence of liturgical celebrations. Then, the Sacred Triduum regarded as one liturgical celebration reveals in turn a unified theological meaning, namely Mysterium Paschale which consists of the mystery of the passion, death, and resurrection of Christ. By looking at the unity of the celebration of the Sacred Paschal Triduum and of its theological meaning, it is recommended that the faithful may prepare for the celebration thoroughly and be able to participate in the celebration of the Sacred Paschal Triduum as a whole so that they can experience the Easter Mystery as the culmination of the history of our redemption.","PeriodicalId":85135,"journal":{"name":"Media development","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135536245","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a text that is influenced by the background of religious and cultural communities, Matthew has a unique way of maintaining the continuity of the ideals of his community. An interpretation model that utilizes the help of social sciences will be beneficial in understanding the ideals of the community that influenced Matthew. From the results of applying the social science way of thinking to the text of Mat 6:1-4, two important things must be understood. First, the teaching of almsgiving is a religious obligation. Second, the teachings on almsgiving aim to create “an egalitarian society” and avoid damaging the recipient's reputation socially, culturally, or religiously. Almsgiving content featuring fictitious and animated characters and storylines is offered as an alternative to responding to this phenomenon.","PeriodicalId":85135,"journal":{"name":"Media development","volume":"103 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135534518","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specifically, it examines the WhatsApp group GEMA Kotabaru using netnography as a research method to explore the group's interpretation of the Gospel passage Luke 17:1-6. The findings reveal two distinct patterns of interpretation: symbolic and literal. Symbolic interpretation involves members connecting the text to metaphors of faith and religious practices, while literal interpretation focuses on extracting the precise meaning of the text, including the significance of the mustard seed. These findings highlight that lay Catholics in the WhatsApp group tend to center their Scripture readings around religious practices and strive to comprehend the text in a manner that resonates with their daily lives.","PeriodicalId":85135,"journal":{"name":"Media development","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135535495","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In a model of multi-dimensional identity, we show how economic underrepresentation can evolve through identity-specific norms and stereotypes. Whereas standard approaches treat identity dimensions as independent, our analysis reveals deep connections between inequality and underrepresentation based on race, gender and other characteristics. `Sterilized interventions' along a single identity dimension are impossible. Interventions that aim to reduce underrepresentation along one identity dimension can increase underrepresentation along another. Underrepresentation can be eliminated along every dimension through a system of (a) self-financing subsidies or (b) role models. Subsidies need to be intersectional, whereas role-model approaches are simpler but less efficient. We identify challenges in the design of such policies, including informational, political economy and efficiency concerns. This opens up new possibilities for theoretical and empirical work on the multi-dimensionality of identity.","PeriodicalId":85135,"journal":{"name":"Media development","volume":"75 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86920866","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The model of signed network formation proposed here considers a population which is divided into communities or identity groups that are hierarchically arranged in terms of social power and ownership/control of social resources. An agent's \"intrinsic strength\" refers to their control over resources by virtue of belonging to a community. This, along with the intrinsic strengths of one's positively tied neighbours, determines an agent's \"coercive power\". The structure of inter and intra community ties is studied in Nash equilibria in a setting where agents extract payoffs from their negatively tied neighbours with lower coercive power.","PeriodicalId":85135,"journal":{"name":"Media development","volume":"33 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77578463","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using detailed information on a sample of U.S. teenagers who are followed over time, we find that labor force participation of high school peers' mothers affects adult women's labor force participation, above and beyond the effect of their own mothers. The analysis suggests that women who were exposed to a larger number of working mothers during adolescence are less likely to feel that work interferes with family responsibilities. This perception, in turn, is important for whether they work when they have children.","PeriodicalId":85135,"journal":{"name":"Media development","volume":"42 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80877552","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
