{"title":"A „nézésre kényszerített szem”","authors":"Anna Szabadhegyi","doi":"10.57227/liter.2023.1.7","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.57227/liter.2023.1.7","url":null,"abstract":"In my study, I will interpret Iván Mándy’s A Trafik and Miklós Mészöly’s Szenvtelen följegyzések via an approach neglected in reception: the acts of looking that play a central role in the narratives. My hypothesis is that the prototypical connotations of the gaze are displaced in both works. As I argue, the gazes in the present works do not fit into the viewer/viewed and subject/object opposition, but are somehow dynamically realized. In order to establish this, I analyse the representations of the body in the texts, as well as the workings of the narrative agents (narrator, focalizer and implied spectator). At the level of fiction, the interplay of human and non-human attributes blurs the above-mentioned dichotomy. All of this is complicated by the gazes of the narrative agents related to focalization, which I observed as a systematic interaction with the represented (characters’) gazes.","PeriodicalId":81044,"journal":{"name":"Cuadernos universitarios. In other words: can we recognise something as a twist if we have no prior expectations about the course of the plot, the characters, the dynamics of the development and resolution of conflicts? Yet if we do have a prior expectation, how can we even talk about a twist? In this paper, I would like to explore this paradoxical nature of the turn within the narrative plot, and in doing so, I would also like to examine to what extent the existence and designation of the narrative turn may depend on the interpreter’s activity, what its status is in our everyday, practical narratives when we „predict” with the help of our narrative interpretive competence, and to what extent it is a relevant aspect when we talk about fictional narratives.","PeriodicalId":81044,"journal":{"name":"Cuadernos universitarios. These fall into two main categories: curriculum vitaes intended mainly for official purposes, and confessions about life experiences and catharses composed in a subjective tone. Texts of this latter category can further be distuinguished by their intended purpose: on the one hand, there are essays meant for publication and concerned with the psychological background of the creative process and the personality of the poet; and on the other, texts occasioned by psychoanalytical therapy aimed at self-healing. However, there are some texts that require further analysis before they can be subsumed into any one of these categories, and their date of composition is likewise uncertain. The work entitled Verstan és Versirás is one such text. Its genetic history has not been clarified satisfactorily, the text variants which have been published are inaccurate, and it has received scant critical reception. My paper is therefore an attempt at summarising the text’s publication and reception history, and to shed light on the circumstances of its creation. In my opinion, this work is not only an important document of the last years of Attila József, but also possesses a significant, intrinsic artistic value. I trust that the publication of the exact text and its genetic history will constitute a suitable starting point both for further analysis, and for explorations concerning its relevance to the poetic œuvre.","PeriodicalId":81044,"journal":{"name":"Cuadernos universitarios.
