The analysis covered ecological awareness, knowledge of forest stands, project awareness, and opinions on government decisions. The local community exhibited an average knowledge level, accompanied by a notable decline in ecological awareness. A surprising discovery was the increased knowledge among tourists, contrasting with ecologists who emerged as the most well-informed group. The study also assessed the impact of government decisions, drawing conclusions from data gathered across various respondent groups. The findings underscored the nuanced dynamics of ecological awareness within the community, highlighting the need for targeted educational initiatives and fostering environmental consciousness among the local population. Furthermore, the fluctuating awareness levels among different groups emphasized the importance of tailored strategies for effective communication and outreach. The research contributes valuable insights into the evolving landscape of ecological awareness and knowledge, shedding light on areas for improvement in environmental education and conservation efforts in the context of the Białowieża Forest.","PeriodicalId":8020,"journal":{"name":"Annals of WULS, Forestry and Wood Technology","volume":"33 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139335208","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The color of dry European beech wood with false heartwood perceived by the human eye is in a wide range of shades from light to brown-yellow to red-brown. The color of the wood of the false heartwood in the color space CIE L*a*b* was measured with a Color reader CR-10 colorimeter (Konica Minolta, Japan). A D65 light source was used and the diameter of the optical sensing aperture was 8 mm. The results of the statistical processing of the measured values of the color of dry beech wood, false heartwood on the planed surface is identified through the values on the lightness coordinate L* = 65.9 4.8 and on the chromatic coordinates: red color a* = 12.7 2.1 and yellow b* = 20.3 1.9. The colourfulness of the darkness and yellow-brown-red shades of wood of the false heartwood is numerically quantified by the total color difference ΔEsx* = 5.5.The presented values of the color of false heartwood beech wood and the definition of color boundaries in the color space CIE L*a*b* create space for designers to model the color variety of compositions and construction and joinery products made of beech wood.","PeriodicalId":8020,"journal":{"name":"Annals of WULS, Forestry and Wood Technology","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80823597","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The economy is currently transformingfrom a linear economy to a circular economy. This is increasingly supported by policy, legislation, industry, andacademia. A circular economy means more efficient management of renewable natural resources, which hasimplications for businesses’ bioeconomies, as expressed in the sustainable development goals of the UnitedNations’ 2023 Agenda. Our study contributes to solving a research gap by seeking to answer several questions:How can post-production residues be used to improve a company’s bioeconomy? Can they bring profit toa company while saving natural wood? Is upcycling using the smart design of post-production a helpful solutionfor material and cost savings in the bioeconomy? The outcome of our study is twofold. From a creative inputperspective, we show the creative possibilities of upcycling production residues. For business models, we refinethe conceptualisation of a sustainable SME circular bioeconomy through the profit gained from such a productsolution. Based on our research, we present conclusions and suggestions for small and medium-sized enterprises,scientists, designers, and technologists to help the furniture industry transition from a linear economy toa sustainable circular economy. This promotes company profitability and growth and helps to save natural wood.","PeriodicalId":8020,"journal":{"name":"Annals of WULS, Forestry and Wood Technology","volume":"30 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75361719","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The paper deals with the influence of ageing of transparent surface finish in the dark and in the light in interior conditions. The colour difference of the tested samples with surface finishes (∆E*ab) was measured after the ageing of native wood and hydrothermally modified wood in the dark and in the light. In the experiment,European beech wood was hydrothermally treated at a temperature of 135 C under saturated water vapour for 6 hours. Three different types of surface finishes (acrylic-polyurethane, polyacrylic and aldehyde resin, alkyd resin) were applied on the wood surfaces. The colour parameters of the surfaces in the system CIE L*a*b*, chroma ΔC*,and hue angle Δh were measured immediately after surface finishing and after the ageing in the dark and in the light. The samples were placed behind windows glass in the interior for 60 days. The results of the colour difference ∆E*ab showed that the colour of wood and the colour of the surface finishes was changed after ageing in the dark as well as in the light. The colour difference ∆E*ab was bigger in the light than in the dark. The colour difference was bigger on native wood than on hydrothermally modified wood.","PeriodicalId":8020,"journal":{"name":"Annals of WULS, Forestry and Wood Technology","volume":"60 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88944935","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
