Although it is rare in the temporomandibular joint, an increasing number of cases are being recorded. This article reports on a patient with this disease and looks at the radiological, surgical, and histologic findings. A review of the literature on this subject is also presented.Trauma to the TM joint will cause displaced discal joint tissue to degenerate and remodel itself. We suggest that trauma in the retrodiscal zone may be a cause of metaplastic changes in the area, which can lead to synovial chondromatosis. For this reason, it is important that the clinician be aware of this disease and its pathogenesis to aid in detecting and possibly even preventing it.","PeriodicalId":79273,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of cranio-mandibular practice","volume":"2 1","pages":"64-70"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1983-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/07345410.1983.11677854","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"17647481","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It will present a proposed chronology of events and attempt to explain why patients with masticatory disorders may also demonstrate other symptoms in anatomical locations that are not directly connected with the masticatory mechanism. Abnormal posture affects muscle length/tension relationships and joint biomechanics, and this may cause pain. This Bella Via Repositioner I (patent pending) and its uses are described in detail. The author first surveys dental literature describing various appliances designed to move the mandible forward, and he examines the strengths and weaknesses of each type. He then discusses various approaches and difficulties in treating displaced discs and reviews the procedures involved in the use of the Repositioner I. The Bella Via Repositioners II, III, and IV (patent pending), which were developed as a result of experience with the original appliance, are described, and their various uses are discussed. The repositioners may prove helpful in various areas of functional jaw orthopedic treatment.","PeriodicalId":79273,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of cranio-mandibular practice","volume":"1 3","pages":"53-60"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1983-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1080/07345410.1983.11677833","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"17643337","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
